But leagues of Votann=squats?

And despite having evolved from humans they are classified as Xenos by the imperium (and in the warhammer shop) aren’t they?

Honest questions by the way - no expert on votann lore.

I‘m not afraid that the vet loses if ratlings were implemented. FS took great effort to make a sharpshooter playstyle unviable, by tweaking spawns and ranged enemies in such a way that melee rushes are always the far safer option.
Vet sharpshooter is already not working properly and thus I personally don’t think a dedicated sniper playstyle would work well in DT. And sniping is what I personally associate primarily with railings in combat.
Although the tree would obviously have to have two further paths and your suggestions aren’t bad.
But as I would be mainly interested in the sniper part and at the same time sniping isn’t fun in DT I personally would just not be interested in the archetype.
I wouldn‘t mind it - I just wouldn’t care.

An AdMech archetype would be much more interesting for me personally.

I remember there was a lot of talk and speculation about ratlings as the 5:th class / 3:rd race back when Darktide released. After finding out they’re not rats at all but basically just short people I became a huge fan too (I love playing small characters). :joy:

But many ppl have made some very good arguments about how challenging they’d be for Darktide. With how many shots friendly oggies already block, imagine that as a ratling when everything is the size of an oggy to you and oggies are like houses! Just lining cleaving headshots or even hitting priority targets through a mass of horde would be impossible when you’re half as tall as everything else in the room. And per lore, they’re not at all suited for frontline horde combat either.

YESN’T!
Iirc, the Squads are very likely descendent from kin which moved to Necromunda (and presumably other imperial worlds) in order to help with rebuilding after the Horus Heresy.
So they are implied to be the same (sub-)species, but culturally distinct. The Squads live in the Imperium and are considered abhumans and the kin are classified as Xenos. With how imperial bureaucracy works, the contradiction is hardly surprising.

Did you read my class suggestions though? I honestly think it could work wonderfully as a very different dynamic to the game. It would be very high risk/reward as you’d be very nimble and light footed but obviously get taken down at the smallest damage. It would be a very different way of playing but that’s a good thing, given zealots and vets are blurring closer together.

If it had a lock on sniper mode then finding the high ground on boxes etc would be needed. Again that’s the dynamic and irony - you’re a perfect shot but can’t see anything from regular standing postion. It would make you think about location and strategy

Sniping prob be the least fun of the classes!

While this idea is neat, the devs don’t appear to have the ability to do anything other than turn out semi-regular minor bug fixes and cosmetics rotations for money.

That’s pretty much the case for every ‘this feature would be neat’ post. Just too much of a brick wall comprised of ‘Fatshark doesn’t want to make the effort’ in the way.

It might be more of a DT2 request than a DT1 request but still good to get them all out on paper.

Never know… Fs might one day surprise us!

Yee I love the trapper/sapper idea! Been hoping for a mechanicus class with similar gameplay anyway. And the turret! Reminds me of the “let us ride our oggies” thread. xD

Not exactly

Squats are the Descendent of Kin that have lived on Imperial World, they had their own worlds, but their main ones were Squatted by the Tyranids.

In current lore there are many Squat communities that survive inside the Imperium, but not large enough to be Galactic factions.

Nothing force you to read those threads, just mute them. There is no reason to shoot down threads even if they aren’t going in the same directions as yours

I would like if one of their abilities had a play on the enemy sniper’s ability. A red beam that targeted highest HP.

(think autotarget railcannon strat from HD 2)

Interesting - source? Rule books or are there actual novels featuring squats? (Haven’t come across any so far)

It’s mentioned in one of the Necromunda short about one of the Squat Bounty Hunter iirc.

They aren’t really important, it’s the same way that Ogryn live and are born on quite a lot of worlds, but don’t matter much in the grander scheme of things

Just stumbled upon some female Valhallan ratlings. How cool are these?!
