Ratling archetype

I suppose it depends on the effect the mine has. Could simply snare or be a passifying gas etc. Could be anything! Doesn’t need to be an explosive.

Lol exactly! That’d be the “Cornish Cook” voice type!

While Votann Archetype would definitely fulfill the rule of cool - the lore would have to be bent really really hard to explain their integration into an inquisitorial warband:

Unlike the abhuman the votann hare classified as Xenos. They wouldn’t end up on a prison ship convincing anyone they are loyal to the throne. If a xenos trader came in conflict with imperial law chances are high they are killed rather than imprisoned.

While it would be easy to explain one of them in the warband via a different background story, hundreds or thousands who are send in a steady stream of rejected shock troopers to atoma to die for the imperium? Nah…

And if these Votann served the inquisition they‘d be using imperial gear. If on the other hand Grendyl had access to a huge pool of superior Votann equipment, why not equip their own human warriors with that?

If FS included Votann they could just as well include Aeldari and T‘au. Kroot mercenaries could even be implemented without bending the lore to hard.

Rattlings wouldn’t have these problems lore wise. That said I personally would have zero interest in a ratling class as the gameplay doesn’t even allow the veteran to play marksman style so an even more sniper themed character just doesn’t fit.

I personally think an admech inspired 5th archetype could be integrated without bending the lore too hard and offer interesting gameplay.

Did you read my class suggestions for Ratling though? Sniper is just one and wouldn’t take away anything from the vet.

I too wanted ranged to be buffed for vet but I think it’s clear now that FS are sticking to their guns (excuse the pun) and forcing vet as a middler, Jack of all trades, master of none. (which, after doing all the new penances, I’m actually OK with and since changed my mind on it… Vet is now my fav class which surprised even myself).

‘ankle-biter’ could be another skill tree perk. Hit an enemy below the knee with knife melee slows it’s movement by 50%

Man I could do this all day. Give us a Ratling!

Lol sorry I was responding to your LOTR clip!

Our little Aussie Ratling could be bogan or outback to the Nth degree for added humour  or just make him sound like Chopper from the movie!

He’d obvs call his teamates ‘bandit’ for starters. The C word wouldn’t be allowed

That’s why I kept it as Squats, though I would imagine that some Votaan Cosmetics could happen.

Where do you even get those things. And I didn’t know it was possible to do that sort of thing

I actually have no clue, you’d have to ask @Rainman because they made it for me

Since I’m a local, I know all of the weird sayings that only an Australian would know!

For example: “You’re carrying on like a pork chop”, which actually means “You’re acting like a crazy person”… it’d be kinda funny to just leave the other Archetypes absolutely gobsmacked with my Aussie vocabulary.

FYI I’ve updated the OP to include some of the suggestions, so less trawling is required.

Sorry I thought I’d made the class suggestions closer to the op than I did.

These guys do look cool but I personally prefer the Ratling capes and fatigues which seem to fit the DT reject theme perfectly. Ratings seem to be very crime-friendly too so I’d imagine they would end up in prison cells quite frequently lol

Although I guess there’s no reason why a Ratling couldn’t pick up some armour cosmetics. Why the heck not!

If we keep to Squats we have both the various Necromunda stuff

Ironhead Autopistol
Ironhead Autogun
Squat Boltgun
Ironhead Meltagun
Ironhead Flamer
Ironhead Heavy Stubber
Ironhead Stub Gun (Pistol)
Ironhead Hand Flamer
Ironhead Bolt Revolver
Mining Laser

Fighting Knife
Power Axe
Power Pick
Power Hammer
Power Fist

As well as the 2 Squat bounty hunters

Bolt Pistol and Power Hammer
Wrench and Pistol

Rogue Trader

Lewis Gun
Sten Gun
Power Glove
Power Axe
laspistol
ChainSword

To that I would see them add certain Votaan weapons.

Concussion Gauntlet
Concussion Hammer
Concussion Maul
Darkstar Blade
Darkstar Axe
Plasma Knife
Plasma Axe
Plasma Sword
Heavy Plasma Axe

Etc, etc…

For some more crime-y Ratlings, Rein and Raus from Blackstone Fortress:

Yeah! They look awesome. He’s even welding an auspex already :joy:

The hook gun is interest. Maybe a harpoon in its place. I still think a net gun or dart gun would be such a great mechanic.

I went frame-by-frame and painted it in photoshop (slightly more complicated, as I also used layers with blending modes for the lips). There’s a “timeline” window where you can work in frame animations and video to a limited degree. Save gifs via “legacy save for web”.

In BSF Rein can use the hook for zipping to every hex he can draw a LoS to (They’re thieves…). A grapnel move wouldn’t work in 40k though. Interestingly Raus seems to use a rare instance of a bolt action rifle in 40k. He also has a mini fridge as backpack. Their names are just in and out in German btw.

They’re very cool. Great inspo for cosmetics too.

Most Ratling arts show them with those.
