I swear to god if I see one more Ogryn, who thinks hiding behind his shield is enough, while there are Ogryn elites on all sides and enemies streaming past him through the doorway, he thinks he’s holding with his shield, i’m gonna get an aneurysm.
Planting your shield in melee situations is next to f***cking useless.
I see that often too (though I don’t see that in damnation much). As one of the smartest ogryn mains (IQ=9) I actually play rather aggressive with the shield. Being able to advance on ranged enemies while having a good move set for stun locking groups is pretty good. The first heavy attack of the shield is god-tier.
Most people think shields in games are for defensive playstyles which from my experience is actually not true most of the time. I often find that having the extra defensive option allows for more aggressive plays to be pulled off. Sure you can play stupidly slow and safe, but being in a boss enemy’s face or fighting a massive horde of enemies at once is obviously more fun.
Players that are not used to Damnation and trying to get the Penance.
NOT Ogryn fault Sah. Momma always said, watch out for the little´uns
Kind of wish they’d re-tag it from [Defensive] to [Mobile Cover]. Might help clear up misconceptions about its purpose.
Shield is my favourite weapon for my Ogryn. No other melee feels as good to play with specifically because of that shield.
Being able to look at a pack of shooters and literally just run straight into them without taking a point of damage is just too damn good to pass up.
The stagger power of the heavies is absolutely insane too.
There is of course a time for the shield deployment. Mostly if the shooters are too far away from me to get to with a single stamina bar, ill stop halfway, deploy until Stamina is back and then continue forward until everything is neatly in melee.
Bonus if the team realizes what I’m doing and actually follows behind.
Why hide behind a wall taking potshots when you can follow in the wake of a Bulgryn and get clear shots at everything thats focused on the big man
And once i get to melee … Literally impossible to die. Everything up to and including Crushers will spend the rest of their existence being slammed into the floor lol.
It’s only [Defensive] in that you can defend yourself from shooters while advancing into melee range.
Really do wish more Ogryns would understand that.
Shields are for slamming into your enemies face, not cowering behind :}
I’d really like to find a guide to shield play in this game. While I don’t doubt the shield’s utility, it’s not one of my better playstyles. If you or anyone else has a pointer to a video or written guide you think is good on this subject, please be so good as to share.
It’s just wonky. Best moveset I found was focusing on mass stagger with the heavy attacks. Get up in the face of the largest group of enemies and try and cram them together with pushes and heavies while dancing around the outside of the group. It doesn’t do a ton of damage, but it can keep them from fighting back while your team lights them up.
Missed opportunity for a different mk variation where weapon special does anything amd the club does respectable damage
