I’ve been meaning to post this for a while as it’s been driving me mad but kept forgetting…but not today!
It’s been a long time since I’ve played as psycher so I’ve forgotten what everything is called but whatever the ridiculously OP seemingly endless stream of blue flame is called - can that not steal all the kills please?
Seems that the never ending stream of blue flame simply has to be on an enemy as they are killed in order for the blue flame to count as the kill weapon.
I’ve noticed it loads but today was the straw that stole the camels kill. On a real pinch zone I lobbed a big Ogryn grenade (the big one) and usually you get the big boom with a nice wall of “OGRYN KILLED XXXX” text down the side of the screen where all the enemies are obliterated in a second.
This time however the wall of text appeared exactly as the grenade exploded and wiped out the entire army…but the wall of text said “Psycher killed xxxx”
So the psycher just has to spray everything with the endless blue flame and boom…they get all the kills, no matter who actually did the killin’.
Yeah, I will say I have noticed that a Psyker tends to have ‘kill priority’ when it comes to a lot of actions, with it especially happening when a target is affected by soulblaze.
I feel this has to do with them having Psykinetic’s Aura, which is the only cooldown talent in the game that effects the entire team when a kill occurs. That, and DoT effecting targets at ‘tick rat’, so it tends to result (especially with the games server struggling sometimes) where basically what I assume happens is:
Target gets hit with enough damage to 1 shot it
Target remains alive for an extra millisecond or two because server tick rate needing to catch up with such an action
During that millisecond, a tick of burn applies to the target, and thus with that being the last damage the target received, it counts it as the killing blow as it finally hits the server.
That’s my theory at least, entirely hypothetical, but I wouldn’t be surprised, as I know using the Flamer on zealot tends to result in the same exact type of thing where it will often eat kills just for applying burn to a target. Psyker is just a lot easier to notice, on top of the fact that they can do it infinitely, and I think have a weight toward them getting the kills to proc said aura above on top of Perilous Combustion, which then results in more flames thus more kills etc etc.
This is all just based on my anecdotal time playing as such and ‘feeling this similar feeling’ when I just blanket a wave in fire and basically all of it goes to me in the feed. Could be heavily talking out my butt, but might be something for a dev to look into. Maybe see if there’s a ‘kill flag’ that can be marked and sent to the server with a time stamp, and if it encounters other kill flags from other games the earliest one wins. shrug.
Nah it doens’t quite work like that, it’s just actually incredibly OP and good at killing if you understand the mechanics and know what you’re doing. He probably just exploded that whole elite stack via the perilous combustion talent (and maybe showstopper)
There is the oddity to it that psyker dots (especially smite) seem to take “possession” of most dots at times (or priority per tick?) but I’m not sure why or how exactly, but this wouldn’t apply to an ogryn nuke
It was very very easy to notice given the abruptness of the Ogryn nuke. The bang went and as the nuke deleted everything in that tight space the kill announcements instantly pinged in the top left of the screen (the exact moment of the nuke explosion, and not cascaded but at the exact same time - indicating everything dying the moment the nuke detonated)…and the psycher got all the nuke kills. Not a single kill awarded to me.
I’ve noticed it LOADS. Like loads and loads. If stuff is bathed in that cursed blue flame then it takes the kill.
It’s really irked me for some time as I’m trying to get my 1m kills penance and this bloody blue flame often steals the fruits of all my labour.
People might not notice if they’re not trying to farm kills but I certainly am so have been watching it like a hawk.
It really really doesn’t work like that though. You can verify this pretty easily by playing a psyker with a flame staff. The dude just killed all that stuff in the exact same tick as your grenade went off at most, if not before
wasn’t that some psyker who would rather undo himself than watch
getting kills for just being there is bad enough, but imo blue flames on everything during night missions are even worse, the game is just dark or blue.
If that were true then there would be a cascade of kill notifications as there is no way the blue flame would kill an entire auric maelstrom moshpit at exactly the same time. That’s the nuke that does that.
The notifications would cascade if it wasn’t the nuke as the enemies would all die at marginally different times and their death is announced the instant the die. It doesn’t wait to announce a bunch of kills at the same time. That’s not how it works.
All the deaths (and there were A LOT) happened the exact time of the nuke.
I’m not saying it’s consistent as I’ve not tested it but it definitely happens. Probably luck of the ping of the blue flame of pilfering.
Still it’s crappy and needs fixed. I’ve noticed it a great deal as I’ve been solely kill farming for quite a while now. It’s made me try and avoid any psychers with the blue flame.
And I increase everyone’s heavy damage with a node in the Ogryn tree anyway. And weaken enemies in various forms with nodes which also helps the WHOLE TEAM. Still it’s not the subject though.
aye the very one and just like the suicide-pact running man option, killian doesnt chose em cause they’re “unreliable”
in the grand scheme of things of course, still theres even an ogryn voice line :psyker stole my kill
and what ogryn says is law-by-rashuns.
i’ll be rotating in my corpse starch can before i let some 60kg, harry potter wannabe wand wiggling manlet take the dinner plate in front if my 60inch arms
It can definitely do that via showstopper and even just perilous combustion though. It alone cascades the burn stacks to the point it kills every enemy near instantenously, and with showstopper it’s a sealed deal. I wouldn’t specifically doubt he nuked 30 elites on his own like that, it’s what the flame staff is best at
But at exactly the same time? So that every death announcement appears perfectly at the same time on the screen? And exactly at the same time as an Ogryn nuke just so happens to explode?
I’m used to seeing that wall of instant kill notifications as it only really happens with a grenade, and specifically an Ogryn nuke. Killing lots of enemies at the “same” time with anything else might pop a bunch of kills notifications on the screen but in a noticeably cascading manner, even if almost instant.
This particular instance of mine is not the be all and end all of the conversation anyway tbh. It was just the most obvious (and downright cheeky) example I’ve seen so far.
But charging into a huge pack and having many kills pulled from under you whilst shrouded in overpowered infinite blue flame that seemingly travels miles, is still a pretty frustrating problem.
It takes a lot of the satisfaction out of the battle.
Showstopper would definitely cause this although I dunno what he ran. I just wouldn’t rule it out.
For the record with showstopper I have in the past gotten so many kill notifications at the exact same time it bugged out the tracker, on CIVII maelstroms
It definitely feels a little OP but mostly due to perilous combustion, not specifically showstopper, that just makes it flashy. Perilous combustion is a pretty busted strong talent and gets relatively few mentions for it. It basically ensures that if you kill ~3 elites you will kill literally all of them. Just one of the reasons that scaling difficulty via clown car elites doesn’t work in Darktide.
