It happens to me quite a few times now and I think it worth mentioning.
Basically what happen is that the dogs bounce Poxbursters back when you push them. It happened with my own dog and other Arbites’ dogs. I think it’s something you should look into.
The game state surrounding the Poxburster handling mechanic is quite bad and this issue just double down on it.
Currently, players are pretty bad at handling Poxburster. I don’t know why it’s so hard for them to safely push the bursters away. So most people will just shoot them as soon as they see one regardless of teammates are in the burst proximity or not. And honestly this is quite annoying and something you have to deal with. In my runs, I get hurt by teammates more than mobs whether it’s from Poxbursters or barrels.
And honestly this can really trigger me because how often it happens. I want to keep it cool and want new players to enjoy the game but when it happens to me 3-4 times in a match, I lash out on them. This is really bad for the game so please do something.
Personally, this is something that annoys me the most when playing DarkTide.
Exactly this.
You can see the burster got bounced a little bit to the right cause the dog is on the left.
But in my case, the dog was behind it so it bounced back toward me even tho it doesn’t intentionally attack the burster.
It’s not something mysterious. Here is what happens in a programming sense from a software engineer perspective.
All numbers below are assumptions to demonstrate how it works.
Let’s say stagger resistance 100 = immune to stagger
Normal state (when they walk to the target): Poxbursters has 90 (leaving 10 for abilities that can almost always cc anything).
Before explode state: Roughly 2 seconds before explosion stagger resistance becomes 10 and most things will stagger or push it (eg. push action or attack or range weapon with stagger power over 10).
The problem is that Arbites dogs walk around with default stagger power of 11. So when Bursters are in “before explode” state, it will automatically bounce off the dog if they make a contact (whatever the hit box is).
I don’t know if the dogs have stagger power no matter their states but if they don’t, they sure become the state where they have stagger power super often.
And judging from the footage by @Harridas , it seems the dog has stagger power even in idle state. That’s messed up.
I’m not exactly sure how they program it but this is one way to improve it.
Let’s say the dog have the following stagging power in different states:
idle = 11
jump/charge = 91
attack = 20
The stagging effect will be applied when the dog makes contact with enemies (through hit box).
So they can make exception so that if the enemy is a poxbusrter, stagger power won’t apply.
Something like this:
I don’t have a video for it but I had a moment when I push a burster, at the same time, the dog jump to a gunner across my face bouncing the burster back to me and kaboom.
Ive seen the dog push poxwalkers on their own towards me twice now. Usually its when theyre very close. So i would push them as one would and the dog just jumps and bounce it back towards me.
Heavily agree with this, dog should just have no collision with Poxbursters at all (unless tagged). Too many times now my dog has happened to collide with one and push it onto me
