Thanks! I think, much like you and many others,
i’m just trying to earnestly put forward or amplify the best ideas we can figure out. Your proposal has been added with a poll!
But i want to. May the best ideas win. I’ve added an additional poll for your corrected idea. Let me know if i did it justice this time.
Yea, and that’s kind of how it should have been if they wanted the ability to have really powerful weapons that are a cut above weapons of convenience.
Even in the tabletop it caused an unholy mess when they removed point cost from weapons options because it just made it mandatory to always pick the most powerful thing. Apparently they are walking that back in 10th.
I think that giving ideas is helpful in itself. Brainstorming is really helpful for professional designers, the community might give them something they weren’t even thinking about.
FS probably knows now that PS is currently in a pretty bad place, so giving them more info from different directions is also good. Again shoutout to players making these poll and discussion posts.
I had a proposal of my own in one of those threads that you could add to the list:
Proposal: “Keep It Simple”
Standardize the number of charged hits to 2. No extra charged attacks for chaining heavy attacks.
Power Cycler blessing now has a T3 version that adds +1 charged hit.
Power Cycler T4 reduced to +1 charge instead of +2, but now also doubles the duration a sword can stay charged after activation.
Henceforth if the power sword is deemed to be underpowered or overpowered it would be adjusted by changing the damage/stagger/cleave values instead of the number of charged hits.
IMO this is the only practical way to get a handle on power sword balance without gutting the weapon entirely or producing wild fluctuations in power level. If you reduce power sword to a single charge by default it loses its identity against the sea of other single-activation weapons. It also makes power cycler ridiculously meta because 1+2 is a 200% increase in power for a single blessing.
Just remove the PS. There is no real way to make a weapon called Power Sword that needs to be functionally on par with mundane weapons.
Power blades do more. If you are going to have them, they need to be better than a knife, shovel, axe or fancy name sword. Chain weapons can be adjusted with being slower due to more bulk. Power weapons go through power armor and vehicles.
" Only the most powerful and influential warriors of the Imperium possess a power weapon as a result of their rarity. Inquisitors and high-ranking commissars or Astra Militarum officers tend to possess them, as do members of various noble families with potent political clout and wealth. The Space Marines make use of many of the power weapons in existence, as is their right."
This weapon needs to be replaced with a Burning Blade
Burning Blade
What started as a series of malfunctioning power swords from the disreputable Clovis Munitorum became a new weapon type after users discovered the swords’ faulty field conduits raised the temperature of their blades to over 600 degrees Celsius.
Loi Metalworks investigated and created what are now known as “Burning Blades,” power swords that deliberately create intense heat along their blade so as to burn flesh to the bone with each strike.
Heavily insulated so that the user feels little of the inferno raging inches from their palm, these swords are nevertheless extremely dangerous to the wielder as well as their opponents.
Targets hit with this weapon are likely to be set aflame. A commonly employed variant of this weapon is known as the Loi Pattern.
OR
Shock Baton
This weapon expands with a flick of the wrist from a small, easily concealable rod no longer than the width of a hand to a slim eighteen-inch long club. The weapon contains a tiny shock generator that can generate five Shock discharges before it requires recharging. It is common amongst undercover investigators who wish their quarry to survive for interrogation, and occasionally finds its way into the armouries of more secretive organisations like the Inquisition.
IMO, these are the weapons they are trying to make the Power Sword into. It is a relatively simple and elegant solution. Re-skin and rename.
Powersword has the wrong nerf:
It should have a power gauge.
Every swing when activate consumes it, then you need to wait for it to have enough charge to power it again.
Power Swords are used by all members of the Imperial armed forces, including the troops of the Astra Militarum
Lore wise we are using Munitorum Pattern which is basically for Imperial Guard officers. A veteran guardsman that is also currently an agent of the Inquisition using it is totally believable to me. We also have things like ehm… Thunder Hammer, and using it in the game and with the new buffs, it totally feels like a thunder hammer should.
Oh, My God-Emperor. That is the most Lore friendly solution I’ve seen so far in regard of Power Sword.
I was considering if I should voice idea for removing Power Sword from the game, but this… this is great!
On the other hand Nish is also right - if something is accessible to Guard Officers it sure as hell will be accessible to Inquisitor and his retinue.
Fine… forget about the would they/should they have this. The weapon cannot be what it should. It is either too powerful, or underwhelming. I have a near perfect one and it is a great weapon, but it is not a Power Sword.
I mean, we can just ignore lore and fluff and just add whatever that look fun while keeping it balance like every game on earth do. Idk why it’s such a big problem.
To modify the proposal I made a while ago, I would probably nerf its stagger and have it be a favorable damage profile against unarmored and infested but not much else while unpowered with minimal cleave and below average attack speed - enough to defend yourself in a horde without becoming a liability. When powered on its highest charge (proposal had 3 states: unpowered, overcharged [The first 25% of its meter], charged) it would have overwhelmingly high cleave (old power sword cleave possibly) and maybe 2nd or 3rd best damage in all categories of all weapons against all targets. The regular powered version would be right inbetween those two, so it would probably fall into a phenomenal generalist weapon on its normal activated state.
This version imo would turn it into a Veteran classic pick even if other classes had access because it heavily incentives a player who uses their ranged weapon most of the time. Balancing your overheat/charge between the power sword and plasma gun would make for a pretty neat high efficiency killer imo if plasma gun was brought to par (last I played the bolter was better in just about every possible way). But at the same time, it wouldn’t be a particularly impressive choice for other classes because of its limited usage before becoming a subpar melee weapon. In essence, I’m saying make it OP but for a limited time, whatever is a reasonable amount of time for a Veteran to get himself out of a jam but not top melee kills.
