Do you think power swords are too powerful?

Perhaps there have been topics like this in the past, but I’ve only recently started using the forum, so forgive me.

What do you guys think about the strength of the power sword?
I simply want to know what others think.

I’m a veteran main player and in the past I used to use a power sword but stopped because I felt it was too strong.
Even if the additional chain is +1 for energized hits, regardless of tier, it would still be a strong enough weapon.

I thought it would be a shame to make Dark Tide’s interesting melee combat system too monotonous with this weapon.

It’s mostly machine translation, and the English might be a little strange, but please forgive the details.

Absolutely not.
It has not been “too powerful” for a long time and it has been powercrept on top of that.

It is still good though.

If you think that it is too strong, i would encourage you to try out some of the other weapons, so that you can offer a more nuanced opinion.

I think it is in a good place. It requires practice to be able to fight around the activations and the limited mobility. However, if you can compensate for those it cuts like a lightsaber.

I actually see this as the only way to make iconically powerful 40k weapons work in this game without invalidating all other weapons. Damaging but complex to use.

PS. The English seems completely natural. Good software.

They used to be but they’re fine now. The more pressing issue with them is that the gameplay loop is boring. Why is the weapon so worthless when it’s unpowered? It’s still a sword. It leads to the gameplay loop where you will never use the weapon unless it’s powered on, not even against poxwalkers, so it just becomes this chore of having to press a charge up button before every combo.
it would be nice for the unpowered attacks to have some reason to exist

No the dueling sword came along and took that place

The activation system makes it handle like a donkey.

Aye, I also don’t like the “make weapon work” button.

i does a lot of damage if you can hold a chokepoint, activate, swing 3x and repeat. so not entertaining to play and mobility like a… fat shark, i guess.

the pee sword’s issue was never how powerful it was- it was that it lets vets that are largely oblivious derp their way through most conflicts spamming charged swings while the rest of the team is stuck with keeping their blind flailing from getting them killed by the ranged specials they have no idea how to deal with.

it’s massively unbalanced, not strong. it makes a large number of fights seemingly easy wins and the guy holding his pee sword entirely vulnerable to several otherwise mid-tier threats because he’s just swangin’ his thang and does not understand his positioning. dudes that should stay in malice get one and think they’re able to cruise control their way through damnation. and then everyone else gets mad about it.

Power Swords are just poorly designed.

These pretty much sum it up for me:

Hardly… look at the dimensions on it, it’s a pointy club more than a sword.

Goofs aside, yes, it should not be “basically worthless” unpowered.

I never used power swords before the itemization update. They were one of the few weapons I didn’t waste mats boosting, and so I spent a few games playing with them to max out mastery. They’re a ton of fun with power cycler, even just rank 2.

I maxed them out but I’m still playing with them, after hundreds of hours playing mainly with combat axes and dueling and force swords, because I enjoy them. Feel a lot like force swords, but you can’t blow yourself up.

But they definitely don’t feel overpowered to me.

if only they would glow like this also… but they don’t sadly.

current VFX are so weird that it’s not even cool using them

there was used to be a glitch with the skin fire wastes camo making them glow cool but they fixed
now.
when activating special attack, vfx is just not there anymore

It would be incredibly dumb on Zealot so it’s good he can’t use it. It’s almost certainly the highest DPS Vet weapon by a mile, but everyone is seemingly used to high mobility as a crutch now so it gets hugely under used for its power level (also because of people just not liking it mechanically).

It has enough keeping its use rate in check for it to not be as issue I think. And the mobility is a legitimate down side even if that is more than counter balanced by its strengths.

In the current state of the game certainly it shouldn’t be on the top of anyone’s list to worry about.

My main complaint with it is the complete lack of balance between Mks. Please give the Mk III some feature or another to differentiate it. Mk VI gets everything good for basically no trade-off. It’s dumb.

yeah both of those mks should have the same juicy 2.5x finesse multiplier on that push attack. mk6 combos into another move of the same power scale as Mk3’s push attack after doing one way stronger. come on guys.

If you build around the weapon it oneshots everything except monstrosities, and if you have a ranged weapon that has a somewhat better mobility modifier or are comfortable with dodging with your blitz out, there is no downside to it. It’s definitely overpowered, but people get hung up on the fact that you can’t move with it well and that somehow equalizes the oneshotting of crushers.

imo, they should remove powercycler and rebalance the special attack as a combo-ending power swing. Removes the ridiculous push attack combos on m6, allows for the unpowered swings to be beefy on their own rights, lets the weapon lean more towards more unique combat flow from heavy sword or devil’s claw. They already added the function to the weapon for combo-extensions, so power cycler could work with that in mind, but I’d prefer that to be the specialty of one power sword while the other is more about finishing with a big power blow.

what’s more boring about this than any other weapon you swing at horde?

the fact you have to use special attack always as first input, otherwise it’s just bad

which is kinda tedious after a while and honestly not interesting if you have to do it 24/7

unlike other weapons where you don’t have to do that much special attacks because they have a logic behind when using them in the right place and right moment.

Caxe is 90% just left click spam and that doesn’t seem to have stopped anybody from liking it :person_shrugging:

I think people are getting “boring” and “tedious” mixed up here perhaps?
