I want to lay to rest a long back and forth debacle on steam forums. Are Darktide’s character models attractive? Or is it a conspiracy that the body type 2s were made below average to sell more cosmetics! Please help with your input.

Life in a hive city is brutal. Every day is a battle against hunger, disease, pollution, and violence, with the sky forever choked by the black smog of the forges. Armed gangs roam the underhive, and the heavy boots of the Arbites echo through the alleys, hunting heretics and criminals alike. Survival is never guaranteed, faith is mandatory, and death is cheap.
But somehow, through it all, my biggest worry is still: am I pretty?
Anecdotal, so take this for what you will, but a friend of mine works for Riot Games as a compliance analyst in South Korea. I’d been trying to convince her to give Darktide a try for a couple weeks (though partially in jest), and then one day she surprises me with “hey, I bought Darktide” and suggested we join up once she has time to actually start later that week.
The FIRST thing she said to me a few days later when she logged on was how ugly and unisex the character creator was. She’s not unfamiliar with the 40k esthetics and had been expecting it, but was immediately repelled by uglyass character design.
That was maybe a month ago now, and I’ve not been able to shake that memory.
For a more serious answer of mine to this, I don’t really care about the faces or bodies of the characters - it’s practically invisible to me and I cover their whole body in armor anyways. I’m much more interested in the quality of voice acting from each gender of character, and some are WAY better than others. Most of them are solid, though. (Except Female Professional. Put some effort into your voicelines, damnit.)
Female Professional is by far the best voice actor/personality in the game, and I’m actually disappointed that the male version of the professional (which I use) is so much worse than the female one.
The female Professional is a top-tier Squad Leader, though the male one is decent and works well as a standard grunt, but the voice actor does not elevate it to the same level as the female.
No hate meant towards the voice actors because I think it’s actually a direction issue and the female actor got better direction.
Overall, I think the bulk of the personalities in Darktide are rather weak in terms of quips and personality because a lot of them fall into the trap of having Avengers-level humor, which doesn’t mix well with what the game aims to be, in my opinion.
All three of the male Psyker personalities are completely awful for example.
I would argue with you about this, but this isn’t the thread for that, and I already made my completely 100% objective and also everyone else is wrong tier list for DT VA in another thread. Feel free to hop over there and make your own tier list, though, or just riff on me.
