I agree. Just make the build invalid and count as having 0 points assigned until the required changes are made. Even more so when its only 1 or 2 talents that need changing.
I used to have multiple builds for each character, but now I don’t bother. When they get reset I end up forgetting what half my builds were anyway. Especially the less used ones.
Honestly is what killed my vib for the game for a while. I know now with the hamoganization of trees you only need like, maybe 6 and you ‘got them all’, but I had 19 per class before, and seeing them rework them all at once just drained my soul as I had 2 characters per human class (minus Arbite, he’s not human), and 19 per just to be able to swap between different weapon combinations I liked, and ‘rebuilding’ them felt like a herculean task that just made me go ‘I’ll just keep playing X other game’.
Eventually I got around to starting the process/got through some of my zealot and some token other builds, but them ‘accidentally’ doing it again kinda kills my drive again for a decent bit XD. PLEASE just figure out how to make them function like they do on Darktide Lantern, just keep all of the nodes filled in but delete all the ones that aren’t/don’t exist anymore, and make it so the build is ‘none functional’ until every node is connected again. Obviously that doesn’t seem ‘easy’, but like pleassse I don’t want to have to keep having all my builds saved to Lantern just to ‘preserve them’ between regular quarterly updates XD (and then figure out what one all of them are because I can’t LABEL THEM BEYOND A RANDOM SYMBOL).
While I get the frustration, I have to admit I just mash down taking whatever I feel like at the time and kinda alter it over the next bunch of games afterwards.
But then I was a fan of Path of Exiles system too and always enjoyed making new characters.
It’s definitely annoying. I’m a little obsessive, so I have three builds per class (to cover all abilities, blitzes, etc), but I keep it all backed up in Excel sheets and Games Lantern builds. I couldn’t imagine the frustration if I didn’t have those to fall back on in situations like this. My mates don’t, and they get really annoyed when we cycle back to Darktide and have to rebuild their trees again.
Tree talents are uninspiring, and I forget what path I tinkered into when it resets, so things feel off for a day or two before I go back to not caring anymore
