Please give Ogryns more guns

I fully agree but I’d extend this feedback to “Please give Ogryns more weapons” rather than just more guns. I love the Pickaxes but I wouldn’t mind seeing something like Brass Knuckles, an Ogryn-sized Flail of some sort or even a Power Fist.

A pile driver would be cool.

It conflicts with the design philosophy of having separate slots for melee and ranged weapons. If we’ll ever have hybrid weapons, it will likely be handled the way that Vermintide 2 did it with say, Rapier, i.e., small firearms attached to melee weapons, used with special action button.

If DT ever does an actual hybrid weapon of sorts, that supports the systems of attacking and blocking in melee, as well as shooting and aiming in ranged, it will be a novelty.

Knuckles sound good af. I hope they make one and make them fluid. Not like 4 business days for a punch.

Not exactly, there could have been GG+shield in the ranged slot, but the real issue is on the reload, where what can you do to make both 1st person and 3rd person reload look good with the shield taking the second hand.

They could have it have an ammo mechanic, like how VT1 did.

I think I know where you’re going with this.

It’s a good point, but another issue is that if you combine both melee and ranged into one weapon, how do you make it feel good on both fronts? You will inevitably have to rid one of the baseline functionalities (attacking with melee, shooting, blocking, aiming (+ shooting while aiming)) that make the weapons good in practical use to begin with.

They could make it so you get to switch between the melee functionality and ranged functionality with the special action bind, but then how do you balance the (probably) melee portion appropriately so it doesn’t make your actual melee redundant?

How different would it be from the parts it’s composed of, if such a “complex” hybrid weapon would exist?

It’s just a lot of issues that pile up on top of another.

They could, I wouldn’t mind that, as long as regular ammo pick-ups would replenish ammo for both your hybrid and your ranged weapon (yes, I’d rather they make hybrid weapons melee-centric, not ranged-centric).

Keeping on the front of 3 action per weapon, and that if it’s a melee weapon it has to have a block

Melee:

  • Action 1: Melee attack, can be held for heavies
  • Action 2: Block
→ Action 1: Push, can be held for push attacks
    → Special: Block shot
  • Special: ADS
    → Action 1: Shoot

This let them have the precise (or in case, braced) while still having the ability to fire a quick shot if they so need to.

Otherwise:

  • Action 1: Melee attack, can be held for heavies
  • Action 2: Block
→ Action 1: Push, can be held for push attacks
    → Special: Block shot
  • Special: Shoot
    This is less precise though.

But if it’s in the ranged slot, it can avoid the problem, this is most useful for cases where people want weapon pairings that are Power + Ranged, or in a certain case, Chain + Ranged.

  • Action 1: Melee attack, can be held for heavies
  • Action 2: ADS/Braced
    → Action 1: Shoot
  • Special: Weapon activation

It fall entirely on the slot they want to do, but in either case, i’d rather they do an ammo system than unlimited like VT2

And this is the problem. Low shot capacity, long reload, and low damage. If I remember correctly it has 4 shots before reload. If you take 2 shots to kill a specialist, you can kill 2 before a lengthy reload. On higher difficulties this feels awful, not to mention dealing with an arcing and somewhat slow projectile.

Pinpoint Target can somewhat mitigate the damage, but having to aim to get stacks to get increased power takes time other weapons don’t need.

I can switch to a Ripper 5, a Kickback, a Gorgonum and to some extent a Rumbler and know that when I switch to that weapon in combat, I can shoot them immediately and kill what I need them to. As well as all of them having better sustained fire than the Gauntlet.

I would love if it actually did function as a pseudo revolver equivalent but imo it should get a good base damage boost, and have Pinpoint be more for dealing with armor and bosses.

It has been awhile since I’ve tried it out so I might be misremembering something or forgetting a blessing but the reasons I mentioned are what stuck with me when talking about the kickback.

I see your points and agree to them.
But I still need to say the GG doesnt feel that bad to me and it does it’s job for me quite well.
To be fair I mistly played cause of cosplay reasons, but I started liking it!

What perks, blessings, and talents do you use with it? Might give it another try at some point.

I assume Pinpoint Target and either Blaze Away or Shattering Impact?

You are right Pinpoint Target and Shattering Impact it is.

No specific talents as I run it to accompany my Shield in my Bullgryn-build.

As I said, I started it out of cosplay reasons.

I use it for killing trappers, flamers and the like and perhaps for some ranged CC to close the gap. Sometimes the special is some good CC in close combat.

Perhaps I’ll be able to check the build tomorrow for details and I’ll upload it.

I ran for a couple of games today. It’s not as bad as I remember it being although it could still use some buffs. It was hitting specialist 1 shots more consistently than I remembered which felt good, especially when you get a kill with all 4 shots.

Unfortunately its has 20% Manaic damage locked in, if it had 25% it could 1 shot flamers without pinpointing target (I miss the kill by 50 damage :pensive: ). That was definitely noticable and made me miss kills sometimes which sucked. Hopefully crafting update will fix this issue.

I ran Blaze Away instead of shattering impact because I can kill armor in melee without an issue (The 2 games I used it with were 3b Club and Branx Pickaxe), but because you are limited to 4 shots it felt pretty bad, even if it can change certain breakpoints if you shoot fast enough. Something I forgot which is funny is melee will trigger the Blaze Away buff.

The slow travel time of the projectile, and the long reload are definitely still very noticeable. Something I forgot about and which I hate is that since it can be alternatively used as a melee weapon, you have to brace it to shoot it. And since they nerfed the melee side of the gauntlet it isn’t useful in that capacity either.

For me I can see it being changed in 2 different ways to make it a bit more fun. 1 is leaning more into the idea of “Ogryn Revolver,” make it have higher finesse scaling (headshot damage since you probably won’t be getting consistent crits with it), faster reload and a faster and flatter projectile path. Maybe a bit more ammo depending on its damage. Being able to pen through 1 target wouldn’t hurt either, although if the projectile flew faster maybe it wouldn’t be as much of an issue. Don’t know if it would be possible but would be great if it could be shot hipfire, but I don’t think that will happen.

The other route I would do is keep it’s clunky nature with a long reload time and slow projectile, but just have a lot higher base damage instead of just finesse damage, and make the aoe explosion a bit more impactful. More of a heavy weapon that feels like you are shooting grenades, but not as powerful as Rumbler shells.

It would be cool if we could get a variant of it for both styles, but if I had to choose I would go with the former.

He is quite boring, especially after the toughness nerf. I stopped playing DY.

Wish we actually got some stuff for him like, more 2-handed weapons and different shields instead of the pool noodle variant (shock mauk)

Nothing to add.
You are completely right!

Perhaps faster equip time would be nice, too, if you would lean into the revolver side of things. The only real “quickdraw” the Ogryn has is the Achlys atm…
That is something I really miss.

EDIT:
Here is the build I run.

Perks on the Shield are locked, there is definetly sth better to have.

On GG I’m still experimenting what will go in additon to +25% Maniac, had Unyielding for a while, but I think Flak is the smarter choice, will test it.
