That and the inevitable shift of balancing everything for Havoc 40.
I die on the inside every time I hear youtubers say Maelstrom is for casuals and I hate it because it’s true.

No… please…

Havoc was made with good intentions i believe but it hasn’t been really well received that’s my understanding at least.
I think Havoc is breeding ground for toxicity, meta-gaming and elitism.
I know there are some people who wanna push their builds to the absolute limit and that’s fine just as it is to play the game casually.
Make Auric Maelstrom a ballcruncher with a massive pool of potential modifiers, have it be the highest difficulty where a coordinated, yoked up group of SWEATLORD SUPREME types is REQUIRED to win.
If all the modifiers Fatshark has randomly discarded after events were used, it’d be impossible for any but the people treating this game as a job to get fully experienced with all of them faster than Fatshark could add new ones to said modifier pool.
Ultrasweats get their difficulty, casuals are gatekept out of it.
Also never have achievements or cosmetic rewards linked to the highest difficulty. That just creates entitlement among people who want the shiny things and cheese it.
If they don’t nerf the living daylights out of a few classes then the game will not be sustainable if the population thins a little; there are too many brackets and not enough good players to sustain Quickplay.
Arbites is grossly over-tuned; it makes pistol builds fun, but it honestly trivialises the whole experience. After playing a mission as an Arbite, with two or three other Arbites, i realise I’m just going through the motions and may as well play Superflight.
edit: also, the Arbite really removes the melee psyker from the game completely. There is no reason to take a fragile, high peril, damage machine when you can take a robust, low risk, damage machine… with stagger and a dog. The only psyker people ever want is an NPC support bot. Game is on the way out, for me anyway, if they can’t fix it.
No. Unless someone is running mods they can’t see how many levels in addition to 30 a given player has. Judging someone’s skill level is extremely difficult.
All forcing Party Finder does is make the process annoying, not proper gatekeeping.
Sure, but then people like you show up expecting to be able to get those cosmetics. Just like how there was an infestation of people quitting the second they went down in Auric Maelstroms so they could get that ‘Auric Storm Survivor’ nameplate. People will cheese any achievement they can.
Razor Jaw has been fixed. They’re calling it an issue. Don’t you love playing bug-or-change.
sorry khrone, mister e says we need to just inherently modify the entire game around rumblers one-shotting the game. he’s the youtuber with subscribers so he’s obviously right but you’re wrong. sorrry!!!
Thats good
How many TRUE SURVIVOR gigachads do we have now thanks to one taunt ogryn and 3 arbitrators with current dog bleed damage bug?
Hopefully not too many, right?
The Scoreboard mod really is the single worst thing that’s happened to Darktide (so far). You really can tell who jerks themselves off over digital numbers on this forum.
I don’t use it. I also don’t see the relevance of bringing up such a thing?
Not sure who you’re directing this at, but I just want Darktide returned to a healthy state of Enemy/Player Balancing. Remember when Auric was actually hard?
no worries, i healthily
over any hard carry i do, numbers or not.
![]()
numbers are an additional kink to get off faster ![]()
aw crap, its A.S.S all over again, time for a culling ![]()
Cyber-Falcons unite!
sh*t, i remember when pre-auric board damnation hi-stg was supposed to to be the end-all-be-all difficulty that actually was an achievement to win. now auric yawnstrom is getting its hind kicked in by a single diabeetus cop using a shotgun with 80% damage reduction.
but apparently it’s my problem if i have an issue with it ![]()
You’ll TAKE your Regular Difficulties being removed followed by Auric becoming the new Uprising and you’ll LIKE it! ![]()
Hoo boy, what a doozy of a morning coffee thread. Thanks for the entertainment.
Props to pikappa89 for coming in here off the top ropes and consistently defending blatantly uninformed and incorrect opinions (yeah they exist). You got balls, kid.
Lots of thoughts on how to reply to…all of this, but I’ve decided I can condense it down pretty succinctly:
Entitlement and lack of shame
Those speaking out against a need for balance in this very thread are, poetically, an embodiment of the balance problem in the game.
When the player base was smaller and I was new (Unlocked and Loaded), it took me hundreds of hours, playing all characters, and external research on mechanics before being confident enough to move from HERESY to DAMNATION. Another couple hundred, plus build and itemization research and currency grinding, before jumping to Auric heresy, then regularly A5 maybe another hundred after. I didn’t want to be that guy constantly out of his depth, knowing I’d make my way on to block lists and have a bad name for myself in the smaller player pool.
Round about that time I joined this board since I finally felt I had the right to have an opinion on some things and I knew I could learn even more from the day oners here.
But in this thread we’ve got a self proclaimed newb with sub 200 hours claiming the OP class that enables them to run damnation shouldn’t be touched…because? And has the gall to have opinions on game modes they haven’t even played!?
Sorry to hurt your feelings, but that’s just shameless entitlement, full stop.
Why do you deserve to be playing higher difficulties if you don’t even know how the game works?
Even in my small time in the game, I’ve witnessed how detrimental this power creep has been to everyone’s enjoyment, let alone those of us who enjoyed the challenge and skill progression to get where we are.
Any players that would review bomb and stop playing because of balancing would leave for new, shiny thing sooner than later. To placate them and push out your long-time players or newcomers invested in the enjoyment of the challenge would be shameful of FS.
They already got all of our monies though; some gave more than others. Who knows how much they’ll care about game health more than review bombs? I’m resigning myself to this being the latest of my games to die for the casual’s cash.
Arbites broke the game. Sure, it’s fun…for a little, but it needs nerfs. The tree is a thing of beauty, the numbers are not.
this is obnoxiously true. that core gameplay loop was the driving force behind the games retention, without that it is very dull
yes, you can’t have that crazy scaling in a game that doesn’t auto reset you like Helldivers 2, it’s not fun.
Malice actually used to be a “Medium” Difficulty once upon a time. Underleveled Teams would wipe fairly often when going from Malice to Heresy or Heresy to Damnation. Failure is a better teacher than success. The best Psykers back then were forged by the fires known as 1 Psyker, 3 Camo Expert Veterans.
Meanwhile playing Malice as a Level 10 Arbitrator:
Malice lvl 10 to Damnation lvl ~21 Arbitrator
