Please buff the cleavers!

I want to use this awesome skin but cleavers are just not good

Best you can do is slap it on the Mk IV and get to stabbing

I agree they need some love, how about 1 in each hand?

They’re decent for non pickaxe/shield melees but like most ogg weapons could use a buff so they aren’t dueling most elite enemies for as long as the punies smash monstrosities. Mk4 being cool for having 3 really good non heavy attacks (both kinds of lights and the push attack), which with slightly better movespeed for ogg gives it some use. Not like a club where its 100% larp.

some grabbing by the throat and gut them as a finisher for ragers etc akin to the charged shovel or pickaxe oneshot would be a welcome addition in my book.

throw them lifeless heretics with their entrails spilled back into the crowd as knockback projectile would be the cherry on top :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

that way we could amp the damage and still not over-pace it given the speed of cleavers.

I like the way you think!!!:sunglasses:

Cleaver were great before… what happened?
Really simple. The pickaxe made it looks bad.

And here I wonder if pickaxes are not too good… in term of damages at least.

me too

i know this will fly under the radar, but i’d love to hear from fatshark if such animations would even be feasible engine-wise :crossed_fingers:

Not only, the clevers got left behind since the patch that introduced the talent tree.
They are not horrible, but also they don’t have any real strong points.

Here Reginald makes pretty good suggestions.

Bull Butcher still seems decent enough for crowd control on a gun lugging build. Knife for the horde, heavy stubber for the specials. Although the gun lugging ability is far, far too short and far, far too slow to recharge.

I’d use the cleavers more, but right now I’m still using the shield with the heavy attack talents or the lightest pickaxe, I used to use the knife way more before the talent tree rework way back when made the shield good.

I like my bonk stick, cutting everything in half with cleavers is a LOT of fun tho.

Yes but a karsolas is better in every way.

I’d give light attacks and attack speed to the butcher, as far as control. The Karsolas outperforms the cleavers no doubt.

cleavers have been surpassed by shovels, then clubs and later pickaxes. they’re ok against hordes but suffer against armor.

it’s pretty ridiculous how a zealot can quickly stab a crusher to death with his toothpick, but an ogryn with his dagger half the size of the zealot can’t. cleavers need more finesse, especially the krourk 4. it should have a special where you grab enemy ogryns and stab them through the visor or joints, just as daggers were used against knights in full plate. and rip off heads of maulers and ragers after a stab to the throat.

other ways to improve cleavers would be to dual wield them, or to use them with a shield.

Instead of always a punch as special attack, wouldn’t it be cool to have Oggy flip the knife from frontal stab to a downward stab- psycho style into things heads? Cleaver is the only weapon I like on Ogryn, but in higher diffs, it’s basically one build or nothing- horde killer but sod all else. The reliance on constant heavy attacks bores- you’re a oggy, every attack is heavy xD With added power, you should flatten the sods.
Some finesse dmg would be neat. And def would love one with a shield!

The glorious days when you could kill 4 crushers with one hit from a folded latrine shovel.

Imo the cleavers are quite good on their own. I mean they’re way faster & easier to use than shovels. Cleaver III’s light spam easily makes short work of hordes. IV is harder to use but easily handles everything without armor, and unlike III has decent moves against armor too.

Their problem is their talent synergy, which is to say there is none. A weapon that mostly or only does light attacks is by definition going to suffer with talents all about heavy attacks. So you’re almost forced to set aside one of the blessings to get toughness regen instead, nvm wasting all those heavy dmg talents (many of which are unavoidable depending on talent paths).

For some rare builds that can be an advantage, saving you those toughness recovery talent points for something else. Ofc the problem there is that the top rows don’t exactly have a lot of good options anyway and you have to go through that path either way. All in all the oggy design really is a bit of a mess when it comes to light attacks so ofc cleavers being that would suffer for it.

Btw I’d be remiss to not mention how much I love the new cosmetics! The whole desert / jungle camo vibe isn’t really my thing, but FINALLY women don’t just get a scaled down version of male skins, and FINALLY we have a way to tastefully show off some skin & tattoos! I love that!! Really hope we’ll get more stuff like this in the future!

What??
Did not see that… I know that’s a different topic, but one that is important for me.
I have just tested Dune and its character creation process. Wow! Women have boobs!! You can choose the nose, hair color, haircuts, and everything on your face… I can’t believe that Darktide has not this. That’s a shame…
But I did not see in the new (horrible) cosmetics that they could show boobs…

Cleavers have a niche, more mobile in speed, [wrong]dodges[wrong] and attack speed. Can choose Bull MKIII to cleave hordes in light attacks or stab version MKIV for better armor pen. combo with slightly harder cleave combo. Struggles most with Maniacs but can weapon special / push to offset.

Shovels more mix of stagger and speed (easier over shield head bopping) while pick axe raw damage / stagger. Shield with stagger, defense, damage at cost to speeds/dodges.

Bully club is in there too with stagger, headbopping but struggles more with horde.

Power club…is the worst…
