Piles of dead bodies break blood decal system [issue since release]

Issue Type (Required):

Visual

Issue Description (Required):

Dead enemies that are piled up keep ragdolling/colliding with each other, resulting in constant spawns of new blood decals.

For the evidence video:

  1. Max Blood Decals and Decal Lifetime are set to the maximum.
  2. Notice how the decals from the poxwalker on the right almost immediately disappear after I shoot at it? That means the pile on the left keeps spawning hundreds of new decals every few seconds until the pile sets. Every new ragdoll or ragdoll interaction with the pile refreshes the issue.

Here’s a video from November 2022 where the same issue can be observed: https://youtu.be/4QJqEwCerZU?si=PMVxgfpsMM_vdQ93&t=183

Steps to Reproduce (Required):

  1. Set Max Blood Decals and Decal Lifetime to the maximum
  2. Enter the Meat Grinder in the Psykhanium
  3. Spawn >15 enemies on the same spot. I recommend doing it next to a wall or vertical geometry.
  4. Kill enemies to create a pile and observe the issue

im pretty sure creature spawner isnt playing nice with meatgrinder the game usually cleans up bodies well in game

That’s the thing, I don’t want the game to clean up the bodies. I want to see some aftermath and decals are a cheap way to create it. Right now any small pile of bodies glitches out and spams so many decals that the whole area becomes clean (except under the pile). You can set the decals to 1000 in the settings file and it won’t look any different to 10 after a horde battle.

A bandaid fix would be to prevent the spawning of new decals in a small radius because right now you might as well set the decals to 0.

Edit:
Here’s another demonstration but this time the decals were set to 300:

The new decals caused by my Autogun are getting replaced almost instantly…
