generally, it makes sense to deal a lot less damage if you hit an enemy’s limb instead of their chest. however, in the case of the plasmagun for example, if you aim for the chest but hit the arm that’s in the way of their torso, even a fully charged shot is not able to kill either gunners when normally it would which can lead to a lot of frustration due to the high ammo and heat cost of such an attack. and given that in-lore plasmaguns thrive at taking out armored targets, i don’t see why a hand or an arm is able to block such a devastating hit and prevent it from going right through into their torso.
