Perilous combustion procs off soulblaze kills now

Issue Type (Required):

Talents

Issue Description (Required):

as title, totally broken, was previously not proccing off soulblaze kills as a balancing factor

Steps to Reproduce (Required):

  1. play psyker with perilous combustion in the meat grinder
  2. kill like 4 or so of the specialists in the meat grinder
  3. the rest of the specialists now all burn
  4. the burning specialists dying now burn the specialists that respawned via perilous combustion
  5. repeats endlessly, infinite loop of burn stacks, free kills with 0 player action via constantly profilerating soulblaze stacks
  6. think about the balance implications in high elite/special density situations in real games combined with uncanny strike, and remember that 16 flame stacks with uncanny strike kill every enemy in the game
  7. Guh!!!

its always been like this PC itself does not give enough to kill an elite from a single target, in big enough elite groups itll kill by itself yes but that wont translate to elite far enough away.

notice how the last shotgunners that were too far away didnt have any burn stacks or if any only contracted stacks from the furthest away elite which was not enough to kill

no

as for your balance opinion try seeing what it does in dense melee elite situations where ragers keep rushing in and there’s poxwalkers around. just burns everything to death on its own. at least previously you manually had to kill the enemy for the 4 burn stacks now they always proc when they die from soulblaze. it was specifically exempt for a reason before

not that i honestly think anyone should place much stake in your balance opinion if you thought it always worked this way, you seemingly were not paying close attention

if your issue is balance take this to gameplay feedback. it has always been like this there are no changes in intended function. you shouldnt report things you disagree with as bugs

Agreed it’s a balance issue and not a bug, but it looks like the functionality of this talent changed in 10/2023 with the skills rework. It used to be an on_hit event, but since then it’s on_kill. That was also when the stacks were reduced from 4 to 3.

Already discussed

He should and he can.

However that’s up to Fatshark to decide if it is a bug.

The previous behavior was essentially a bug. Bleed/SB templates weren’t receiving attack type buff parameters while burn was. This was fixed presumably because some Mortis Trials buffs wouldn’t work otherwise. The new behavior may be unbalanced in some scenarios, but certainly psykhanium infinite spawn situations don’t resemble actual gameplay. No change was specifically made to perilous combustion.

I literally am reporting a bug because it’s not in the patchnotes

you can argue it’s not a bug but I frankly don’t care, it’s for fatshark to decide and not for you lil bro

it didn’t proc on soulblaze kills before nightmares & visions. it now infinite loops soulblazes in the meat grinder (you can afk and the fire keeps burning) which would’ve been very easy to notice had it ever done that

forget everything i said apparently it was always supposed to do this

Not being in the patch notes doesn’t mean fatshark didn’t fix or change it. The power sowrd stun failure was also considered a bug by players. When the actual announcement was released, they would tell you that it was a deliberate modification. Dot-type (blood burn) kills could trigger crist burn before, but soulblaze kills couldn’t. That’s all.

it not being in the patchnotes justifies me making a bug report about it

wether or not they meant to change it or not is speculation coming from you (as is from anyone else here) and isn’t really relevant to the bug report

Power Sword’s stun charge failure has long been considered a bug, and it wasn’t until this patch that he told you that it was a balance change. There are no bugs that are not described in this patch note and are fixed or also: Empyric Shock ,fire staff can use primary to take effect. The soublaze kill can’t trigger Perilous Combustion has been a bug for a long time and has been filed, but they are only now considering the balance factor to fix or change, and the current Perilous Combustion trigger is exactly as described by talent, and there is no bug.power sword event Again, not all changes have to be written in the update announcement.

you have literally 0 way of knowing wether it was intentionally left out from triggering via soulblaze because of the obvious self-proliferation dynamic or wether it was a bug that it didn’t

you should’ve made a bug report when you felt it was bugged. this is not relevant to this thread, you’re just speculating baselessly

It’s not unfounded speculation, talent must fit its description, otherwise it’s all considered a bug, if soulblaze is deliberately omitted, it’s a human bug, for balance, otherwise he’ll tell you like Tranquility Through Slaughter, Non-Warp Ranged Critical Hits Quell 4% Peril, yes he means guns. I filed a Perilous Assault bug in the fire staff that didn’t work (now it works) because it doesn’t match the description, and of course some people think it’s a balance issue, so fatshark can change the description to match the ability description

not really. it should but this isnt a hard rule for fatshark

I’ve tried but haven’t been able to track down exactly where this change is in the code, so I am somewhat inclined to believe that this might be a bug.

this is a good theory as for why it changed but i disagree it means it’s necessarily an intentional change to how it functions in the context of perilous combustion and soulblaze
in case it’s not clear the reason i’m suspecting it was not an intentional change is because it’s fairly obviously a broken dynamic if it works like this, it basically makes it so psyker flame staves have a fire cap of 31 as long as there’s a couple elites in the mix. given how fire stacks do exponentially more damage this is an actually pretty huge buff to psykers aoe damage, probably something like triple just by virtue of the stacks, and this isnt even considering how it spreads off itself now which makes it even better

such a massive buff (i would unironically say this buff outscales the ogryn buffs, when it comes to pure damage done, but that’s a loose metric) would probably be noted in the patchnotes if intentional

so while i’m speculating, my speculation is that this is a bug that goes against the intended design/implementation of the perilous combustion talent. so i report it. of course you can speculate the opposite but i find it a bit annoying to report a potential bug and having psychics tell me what fatshark meant to do.

As syllogism already mentioned in this thread, the change came with the recent patch 1.7 and updated all remaining DoTs to match burn’s parameters:
