Path of Redemption Update, Coming Late April 2024

looks awesomes, cant wait,

Being able to change my ogryns voice from the barely talking, grumpy one is nice, but it’s not enough even with penances and bigfixes. Too many other games out there right now.

My honest reaction:

I’ve been pretty critical of FS no doubt but I’m genuinely looking forward to seeing these updates. I love the addition of not only cosmetics, penances etc. But more utility around the RP elements i.e char background.

Path to Redemption indeed!

I think I’ve developed psyker abilities that let me divine the strands of fate of the future.

Fatshark won’t make their self imposed deadline of the end of April for this update, and the new penances will be similar to the original penances in that they will require an incredible grind, or they will be frustratingly detrimental, or outright contrary, to the progress of a mission.

It’s the same people in the same positions designing the same-ish systems, with vague statements disguised as DEV blogs that end up giving us no real examples or actual idea of their design intent other than that it’s likely going to be similar to stuff we’ve seen before and have already registered our apathy or discontent for.

I probably don’t need psyker powers to predict all this.

No reason to come back yet.

Nice stuff on paper, and I do hope it hits the mark for people who are into this kinda stuff. Shame there’s close to nothing here for people who don’t care about achievements or character cosmetics. Yay alternate bomber I guess? Like that’s cool but not enough on its own to make anyone excited to play.

Like could we at least get some new weapon MKs, or at very least some blessing/weapon balance to go along with it? If not someone please wake me up when the crafting update arrives or at least a decent balance patch.

This is just me, and I know I’m probably not sharing opinions with the majority, but I’m not super impressed with this.

Penances and cosmetic rewards are a big ball of whatever for me. I know they’ll be a motivator for a lot of people, but I just kind of play the game and get a popup every now and then telling me I did a thing.

The character redesigner feels like addition of something that should’ve been there from the beginning. Nice to have, but not really a draw.

Pox gas condition will be another queue dodger for me. Awful idea.

Gas grenade special, I expect to be a firebomber with a different skin.

Puzzles might be interesting, depends what they are exactly.

Most of this stuff has already been in the game for months, if not since the start, and there hasn’t been any real content updates since December last year. This again, just like the class system, feels like what you all wanted to do originally but didn’t ship the game with because it was released too early.

I ask again, what is everyone doing there all day? I was hoping for substantially more considering there hasn’t been any substantive updates for like, 5 months. This is it for me, the pace of development from Helldivers just really drives home how slow and unacceptable Fatshark’s dev speed is. I’ll check in next year to see if the crafting update even got implemented yet or if y’all manage to screw that up and delay it. Have a good 2024 y’all

(also, absolutely hilarious that this post somehow got delayed despite having 2 1/2 weeks to work on it. This is the kind of sht that can be written in a day, lmao)

Conditions are dumb anyway, because with how the mission selection work, there’s a good chance that either you can’t avoid it (like hounds, hounds 24/7), or you’ll never see it depending on when you play. I have friends who have over 100 hours in this game and have never seen lights out once.

Some conditions are much more likely to appear on the Auric board rather than the standard. Many people complained about Lights Out so it got bumped to Auric. It shows up there all the time.

Ok… So half a year before 1.0? Basically seems like DT is 2 years undercooked.

I see no mention of crafting nor the new weapons. The former does not surprise me, but the latter does. Can you clarify on this, please?

Yes, that’s how rushed this game was on release. 2 years too early which in reality would be 1 year too early for most other dev studios.

Everything else aside, I’m ecstatic to hear we’re getting loyalist Moebian 6th gear! I adore their design, and I’ve wanted to wear their beaked flak armor breastplates since I first saw them. I’m hoping all classes get a decent-looking helmet, including Zealot and Psyker, to complete the look. Zealot getting the Mauler’s sallet, sans welding mask, would look awesome.

I’m not sure who hashed out the visual concepts for the Moebian 6th, but they absolutely nailed the look, and to me they are the very definition of Traitor Guard these days. I love the subtle details, like their melee and ranged elites wearing different helmets suited to their respective tasks - ranged elites have a stahlhelm-esque with an open front for better vision (or for a gasmask), and melee elites wear a medieval sallet helmet under the additions.

Sorry, gushing a bit, but praise where it’s deserved. I hope for nothing less when we get our loyalist versions. Maybe we can get a preview of them soon?

Honestly, the way it was mentioned third in the Coming Up announcement, I figured everything there would be part of some third update after the crafting one likely in the late fall. That we are getting a new enemy unit now is a pleasant surprise.

If we are to get new weapons, I suppose having them come out with the crafting update in the next patch makes the most sense. No point in introducing them now and then re-working them along with everything else when they overhaul the system in another few months, yeah?

Good news on the whole, and if this does release on time then the basic road map for this year is off to an ‘accurate’ start.

The all-important Itemization overhaul is up next and I hope we get this by late summer but yes, I know, this is FS so I’m obviously not going to hold my breath.

I would say this game needs some brand new assets (whether it be new maps, enemies, weapons, classes, etc.) by Q3 of this year otherwise it’s the final nail in the coffin IMHO. We’re 2 years in and essentially the only visually and functionally new things we’ve received are some of the abilities from the class overhaul update (e.g. Psyker shield bubble, Zealot’s Chorus, etc.), and some of the environmental mechanics and aesthetics tied to the newest maps. Everything else has essentially been a reskin or a reused asset.

Also, instead of an arbitrary FOMO rotation in the cash shop, it would be nice to have all of the cosmetics listed and purchasable at all times, and then have some of those items announced and rotated in a separate ‘on sale’ tab at a discount of Fatshark’s choosing of course. Wishful thinking but that’s what many other in-game cash shops do and it makes the most sense, both from a player perspective and long-term business model. However, in Darktide’s case that’s also a double-edged sword as it would highlight just how many reskins there are in this game for an eye-watering amount of money.

Anyway, I’m just glad it’s not April and we’re all numb from reading an Open Letter Part II or III. Set the bar unfathomably low and be deliriously happy all the time. Works great.

I don’t mind the concept of conditions, I just think a few of those that we have now are just seriously unfun.

Vent purge sucks.
Dogmode sucks.
Lights out sucks if you’re not running a full ranged team with torches.

If it’s anything like the twins event, pox gas is going to be pretty tedious too.

I can see it maybe being interesting if it’s combined with some of the hard-mode modifiers like hi-stg or no-ammo, but that’ll depend on how it actually works.

The one I’d shown off does, but there are variants that do not have a face cover - I just happened to choose items with face-cloths.

Under the initial announcement, if anyone didn’t notice, CM it popped up with a response to one message.

Am I the only one who understood that in theory they will deal with weapons, but in fact they are throwing cosmetics at us again?

In addition to this message, you have also been published more than once on the forum with posts with a (detailed) description of new weapons that they want to see in the game. And what are you doing? We don’t have enough cosmetics, this will really help me on AM missions.
No battle pass is a good idea, but it should have something other than cosmetic items (they should be a nice bonus). Take a look at a game like Division 2 - the BP contains blueprints for weapons and armor and cosmetics and chests. What will we have, cosmetics and cosmetics.
40,000 cosmetics out of 10
