I won´t go deep into details @alsozara have already written down.
But i need to assist his claim being like “It doesn´t matter how many enemies the game is throwing on us if we sit on broken weapons / stats.”
A flamer will shred through 10 or 100 enemies at once, it doesn´t matter. A PS will clear a horde very well, no matter the enemies etc…
Making every weapon superior is just nonsense. The highest difficulty should mean “effort put into it”. It shouldn´t be a faceroll cause classes or weapons got exeggerated. And the only thing you could do to hold against broken weapons is bulletsponging or instadeath. But is this fun or good game-design? No.
So better tune the broken stuff down on the level on the balanced and viable ones.
Also i still see a huge mistake in the +X% damage blessings. FS need to rebalance the basestats of weapons and should get ride of them. If they would offer utility, players would be able to choose and tweak their own playstyle. This would last in fun based on personal preferences and noone would care about 1% less damage.
Right now poeple just sit on broken weapons because they´re broken. If the shovel would´ve been broken since day one, then yes… poeple would´ve sit on it instead of the PS since their mind somehow is like “broken = fun / winning = fun / getting loot = fun”.
But this is not tide-games. This is no real loothershooter nor is it important to win besides doing penances. The gameplay is what makes the series outstanding and facerolling through enemies is no great gameplay.
A lot of poeple just have false expectations to the game and treat is at that. They got wrong infos, still believe gearscore is super important or that you pretty much need the broken stuff to be able to clear damnation, etc…
It just holds them back from getting better and it´ll last in a worse game for everyone since the whole replay-ability is to pick different weapons / classes and to grow at them.
And just at last a personal example… i play revolver on my Vet. Not because i want to challange myself since dozens of poeple claim it to be useless. It´s because the feeling is great. The sound, the handling, the little skill-ceiling if you position correctly.
So here we´re at a point i said ages ago aswell. A bunch of weapons just lack feedback. If a weapon is only able to kill 3 enemies but have a sick feedback, it´ll be automatically more fun than killing 10 enemies with one swing but 0 feedback.
So keep this in mind, or the blessing-chances i want, put on top whatever you want. There are ways to keep the weapons balanced, the game challenging but the fun still remains even for those not seeking a challenge. It just needs to happen.
