Intro
Hey everyone, this is Spazz again. Today I will be presenting yet another character concept which would make things really interesting in Darktide. If you too would also love to see post-launch character DLC bundles or would simply want to learn why are they so hard to make in case of Darktide or Vermintide then click here
This time there will be no lore section. I am by no means a lore guy. I am sure the developers would find more than a couple of ways to fit an ork into the game. All it takes is a little malfunction when travelling through space and all there is left of a light ork space cruiser is single crewmate. Those aren’t that common for orks, are they? What makes this whole situation very interesting is that we would get to plan an ork. I will be referring to our new friend by his nickname I just made up: Wargad The Ironstompa. 'Ere we go!

Why on earth an ork!?
This is exactly why! I don’t think there has been a SINGLE video game where we get to play as an ork protagonist. For some reason, our favourite comic relief greenskins have always been taking the backseat when it comes to the narratives of video games. I think it’s high time we change things up. Orks just like space marines have been the meat and bones of the series and I sincerely believe it would be crazy to get to play an FPS from ork perspective. Each time a new Warhammer 40k game releases it’s a coin toss if it’s just another “here check out these space marines” game. How crazy fun it would be if once in a while we had something other (of high quality) to play that is not exclusively based on astartes or imperium of mankind. How often do you get to play as an ork from the first-person perspective? Never. In Darktide a huge opportunity arises to test new things and what concept is better to test than a Vermintide style FPS with an ork pov! Imagine the Waaagh! Imagine the unique and fun voice lines! Imagine getting hands-on experience of ork arsenal which like I said before, you probably never had a chance to test yet. This idea would surely not only get lots of support from the wh40k community but definitely the ork players and even any greenskin lover who haven’t even heard of Warhammer before but would like to see more ork stuff in video games! For me, this would be revolutionary. Just imagine testing all the cold steel at your disposal while calling out the chaos baddies! Similarly to Bardin from V2, Wargad would make use of his extraordinary vocabulary and language. No matta if talkin to Iz fighting bruvvaz or sum pansy grotz! This might come as heresy to some of you but honestly, ork culture has been a great benefit to the Warhammer universe. Even if you dislike playing them personally. They always make fun allies, sidekick and enemies. Orks are always cool and versatile. I don’t think I have ever met a single person who truly believes orks are a boring and stupid faction. You simply can’t go wrong with orks and why!

What possible ork careers could we expect?
Because it’s never been done before I was going to say the sky is the limit. However, after doing some research I realized the options would be somewhat limited. For starters, we need to make Wargad equal to the rest of the party strength-wise. Just like we get the imperial guard and not space marines. This means no Warboss stuff that would make our ork character ridiculously big. Another thing to remember is there will be no Nob stuff, the party of Darktide makes use of available resources. This means Wargad can’t lug everything he found to this moment and bring it here. No supa-deff-gun-killas. Sorry. Weirdboy is also out of the question because of the rank and forces the posses, and that’s okay though because we still get plenty of careers to choose from. Shoota/Slugga/Burna Boy, Tankbusta, Kommando, Runtherd, Mekboy, Painboy. Anything goes really. A couple of cuts here and there and we are left with a diverse and interesting variety of careers that proudly represent the power of greenskins I chose the Slugga Boy, Kommando and Tankbusta. All of these careers are fairly similar in strength and cover different archetypes or classes. Here’s a few examples of how could these classes fit into the gameplay side of things.

A couple of cuts here and there and we are left with a diverse and interesting variety of careers that proudly represent the power of greenskins I chose the Stormboy, Kommando and Tankbusta. All of these careers are fairly similar in strength and cover different archetypes or classes. Here’s a few examples of how could these classes fit into the gameplay side of things.

  1. Tankbusta (heavy weapons guy)
  • Career Skill: Tripple Rokkit Launcha
(Wargad grabs equips his favourite gun. This rocket launcher can be quickly fired 3 times before reloading. Carries 9 rockets.)
  • Passive Ability: Right in Me Crosshairs!
(Consecutive hits on enemies increase your poor ork accuracy by 10% up to 30% maximum)
  • Perks: Kustom Shoota, Boom Time!, Loadz 'o Dakka!
(Rate of fire increased by 15%, don’t ask questions, it’s custom made. Explosives deal 10% damage and have their range increased by 25%. Extra ammo pockets allow you to carry 100% ammo.)
  1. Stormboy (melee focused berzerker)
  • Career Skill: Da Deffjump
(You smack a red button near the rocket on your back reach and scream “WAAGH!” at the top of your lungs. The rocked lifts you into the air when-used mid-jump. This jump pack can also send you forward knocking back all enemies, staggering bosses and instantly crushing minor enemies if used on the ground)
  • Passive Ability: 'Ard as Nails
(You don’t have more stamina, more health or higher blocking arc. As an ork, your melee attack hits stack a damage reduction buff that reduces damage taken by 10% up to 40%.)
  • Perks: Ramming Speed, Show 'em whoz fastest Ladz! Proppa red paint!
(Your melee weapons deal 20% more damage on enemies hit with a ranged attack. You can dodge further away propelled with your rocket “jump pack”. When running towards an enemy your movement speed is increased by 20%!)
  1. Kommando (trickster, support specialist)
  • Career Skill: ZOG OFF!
(Drop a smoke grenade which pushes away and stuns all enemies for a moment. Enemies inside of the cloud are slowed and by 50%. Lasts 8 seconds.)
  • Passive Ability: Assashun’s Choppa
(Melee weapons are guaranteed to stun most enemies when backstabbing, backstab damage increased by 15%)
  • Perks: Speshul Ammo, 'ide Da Boyz!, Iz Da Sneakiest!
(Some of your shots pierce targets but also have higher recoil. You and your allies cannot be targeted with ranged attacks inside of the smoke bomb. Unalerted enemies see you from 75% shorter distance than usual often allowing you to attack them from behind first!)

Ork arsenal put short
Orks are the trashmen of the Warhammer universe. They make use of everything they find. Every ork knows how to turn something he just found into a weapon. They also upgrade their arsenal by adding spiky bits and more metal to stabilize their crazy weapons better. Their guns also work great as melee weapons (all the spikes and stuff). Because their list of weapon is so great I am not going to list every one of them and instead, I will just send you to this page so that you can discover all of them for yourself. Their weapons are big, loud, cheap and expendable in a nutshell. You’d think that space marines get the coolest weapons but it’s the ork faction that has the highest number of weapons I like the most. Such as a melee weapon that is a metal rod with a faulty rocket welded at the end that can explode with each hit. Also, orange sparking beamy weapons, those are super fun!

“Dem Inquisishun humies can’t be trusted any further dan day can be thrown, which in dat one’s case might be a bad example.” - Bluddflagg, Ork Kaptin

Thanks for reading
That’s all I’ve got this time. I still think this is more than enough reasons for us to see an ork join the team of Darktide. Even if all he’s here for is to survive in a bigger pack when searching for his Warboss in the hive-city. As always thanks for checking out my post, glad you took time to read through it. Hope you had some fun and let your dreams run wild of what might come for us to see in the claustrophobic world of Darktide. If you liked the post share it with your 40k pals and, the heart button and check out my Techpriest concept if you feel like it. This way ill get to know if you guys want more of those speculations and concepts I come up with. This is all. Merry Xmass, cheers!

Quick update, if you really like ork things or fun stuff in general you should totally check out this steam guide. It helped me to create my thread by adding ork theme here and there. It’s also really interesting and hilarious to read the script there. This guy even learns you how to count like an ork. Amazing stuff.

Sry Budd, not gonna happen ;-((

If there is any kind of Xenos that could be added, it would be Eldar first and foremost i think! Orks dont work with none…
But before that, I would love to see all 4 Major Assassin Ordos. Yet another damn Good Read for you!!!

Wished they would have done him in Inquisitorr Martyr

again cool, Post, like to read em!

when i go the wikipedia entry for the list of all 40k games there are 4 entrys where you play a singular character,
and depending if you count a ““adventure gamebook”” whatever that means’ as an game you could exclude Legacy of Dorn: Herald of Oblivion
leaving 3 titles
Eisenhorn: Xenos : as far as reviews are concerned a shitty game
firewarrior i never played it and its 17years old
and lastly space marine decent game but really not known for its outstanding protagonist

so sure we dont had an ork as an playable caracter but also anything else really

one could argue Dawn of War II - Retribution let you play as an ork

Eternal crusade let’s you play as sm, csm, eldars and orcs.

I am shocked that good old Goreguts isn’t counted as a protagonist. That guy was awesome in the Danw of War games!

i never said otherwise, i chose my words carefully,

well are you playing a protagonist in apex legends? a character yes but not a protagonist,
the difference being a narrative.

gorgutz sure can be a protagonist, i excluded him and all other characters of any strategy or grand strategy, because the original post was about a first person experience

  1. Dawn of War 2: Retribution

Yeah, I didn’t mention DoW 2: Retribution even though I am actively playing it right now. You can technically play “as” the Ork leader here but at the same time, you play 3 different heroes and countless other squads of orks. In this scenario, you’re playing as an ork faction.
Again it all comes down to space marines playing the main protagonist role in DoW series. The teaser (even if you pick ork or any other faction) stays the same and talks about the ranks of space marines and chaos corruption. Not a single, brief mention of you. Being an additional option in campaign tailored for the space marines fighting their master chapter.

  1. Eternal Crusade

Here we get a lot closer to having a ork protagonist however it still not exactly that. You have a couple of teams and races to choose from and after you make your choice you can detail your character. The thing is you’re again not the protagonist. The game is an arena shooter. It doesn’t tell the story of an ork character. You can detail your ork as much as you like but it’s still going to be just another ork on the battlefield. If it was a coop game like Vermintide, an RPG like Chaosbane, a singleplayer game like Space Marine then I would say we had an ork protagonist. A character who has voice lines and tell his story with his action is a protagonist.

  1. Eisenhorn: Xenos

Again, another game that has nothing to do with an ork protagonist. This is the description of the game on the steam store page.

Set in the grim, dark future of Warhammer 40,000 ‘Eisenhorn: XENOS’ lets you experience firsthand the story of Gregor Eisenhorn, an Inquisitor and member of the ‘Ordo Xenos’, sent out to fight and protect the Imperium of man from anything that may threaten it.

Don’t know who’s this Gregor the Inquisitor guy but definitely not an ork.

  1. Firewarrior

Didn’t mention it because the game may be older than a sizable portion of Warhammer series. Here’s something about the game I read on wikipedia.

The game is a first-person shooter, where the player takes the role of a Tau Fire Warrior named Shas’la Kais, seeking to rescue his leader and defend

Again, this game has nothing to do with ork protagonists.

Anyways. Can you please elaborate on this? I don’t really know what you had in mind. Thanks a bunch.

the whole reason i brought these titles up, wasnt to show you that there are ork protagonists,
these 4 titles are ALL 40k titles with an “normal” protagonist driven narrative and i made the point that
none of the mentioned titels are either “good” games and/or (have) very compelling storys.
(don’t know why people brought up strategy games and battle arena games…)

why? because i found it irritating that an obvious 40k fan would crave something so specific as and first person Orc narrative type game,
considering we basicly never had ANY first person narrative driven 40k game (that is not trash smh)

to be fair even tho we dont have first person telling storys we do have quite some storys based on the imperium (with some being actually good) ill give you that.

so that i dont get quoted out of context
games i meant:
tau firewarrior: very old, even on release lacking in many things, many bugs& glitches, awful gunfeeling

Eisenhorn: Xeno : (never played it!!) has terrible ratings mostly due to being bland and boring story with awful combat feeling

Spacemarine: i thought it to be a fun campaign combat can get stale but its just 4-6h long so its forgiven, story is not great. big green boy wants to loot tha factorys imperium says nay sends u, !!surprise!! white evil bald man shows up and wants to be even more evil, you’s say nay

Heresy stamp all over this lol. Why not throw in a tyranid too.

That’s only half the truth in regards to the Dawn of War series. In Dawn of War 1 you’ve got three expansions with an oppertunity to play as Orks with the campaign being no more tailored to the Space Marines than to the Greenskins.

Bump’d

Just for the hell of it. There’s no way they’ll ever make one, though. Just imagine the intro cut scenes.

“What do you say, criminal. Shall I put you out of your misery?”

“I LOIK TA SEE YA TRY, YA GIT”

“You said you were loyal to the throne…”
“WHUT”

All of the cutscenes would look extremely comical with an Ork.

I know this is old as hell but: Im not sure why everyone is saying an Ork pc would never happen for lore reasons. Freebooterz and Bloodaxes work with EVERYONE. The rogue trader TTRPG it says inquisitors will hire them. In Commissar Caine: For the Emporer Amberley mentions having worked with orks. So its completely lore accurate that an ork could be part of an inquisition kill team.
