OP Mobs

So I threw a proper fit about a month and a half ago when FS decided to disable all special conditions except the Hounds for a weekend to “test” stuff. And it really was a proper tantrum. I’m not super proud, but I meant what I said about hating the Hounds. However when I saw the latest update I figured I would re-install and give it a fair try.

Played a few games on Malice, a few on Heresy, and a few on Damnation to give it a general all around test. I’ll give an appraisal at the end of this post. What I want to focus on first is the OP mobs that still exist in this game. I’m speaking, of course, about the Damn BARRELS! I start up a game, wait a minute at the drop point for more players to get added then away we go. It’s Heresy, not too tough. We do alright for a good bit. Then on a bridge I see the Barrel a second too late. I put up my Deflector and it did absorb most of the damage. What it couldn’t save me from was the 50 yards the barrel blasted me into the air, and out into the never ending abyss of Tertium. And as I waited on the team to make it to the respawn point I couldn’t hep but laugh. Toughest Mobs in the game are still the Barrels.

Now in General the game feels pretty much the same. The Peril management on Psyker does feel like less of a constant hassle, and more like having to reload on any other character, and to me that was a positive change. I still noticed some glitchy crap, like mobs randomly melee’ing from 20 yards away, or mobs kind of “popping” into existence but it wasn’t something that was so bad I fixated on it. The real Nemesis of the game at this point is lack of content or goals to achieve. It feels empty. There’s no real story. And the story that does exist is a hollow shell of what it could be. And to me this will be the real killer. If there isn’t anything new to do, and there’s nothing really to try and achieve then it’s all personal goals and those are dwindling quickly.

In the end I probably will play a game or two throughout the week and on the weekends. Especially if my buddies are willing to jump on. That part of the game is still solid. Slaughtering Heretics with friends is still very fun if everyone is in a good mood and having some laughs. Don’t stop now FS. There’s still much to do, but it is slowly getting better.

This could literally say:

Subject: “Barrels Knockback needs adjusting”.

Post: “Hey Fatshark, lower the knockback on barrel explosion as it leads to team wipes. Thanks”.

If think you were sniffing warp slightly too much, sibling.

please make condition with more barrels, twice the explosion radius and dmg, and finally allow it to be mixed with the new high intensity mode, pretty please

Barrels with legs. Barrels with mutant’s charge. Barrels with hound leap. Barrels with net guns. Barrels that throw barrels. Barrels with flamethrowers. Barrels of Nurgle. Plague Barrels. Barrelhosts.

The condition can be called Barrelpocalypse.

Ok, semantic satiation with barrels is kicking in.

Honestly, the barrels are the funniest thing. I like them. Reminds me to couch coop sessions I had as a child in Champions of Norrath. The barrels there also had team damage and could oneshot you. Funny stuff.

could you please explain the mechanic of proposed barrelhost to me?

would that barrel silently wisper “are you there? there is cake behind me”, and then blow up once you aproach it?

… or do you just propose to put psyker in a barrel?

i am genuinely intrigued

I was thinking there are barrels inside the psyker. Not sure if it explodes when it gets hit or explodes. But the kill animation would be instead of sucking the soul out it turns the victim into a barrel.

that game mode would perfectly explain why there are so many barrels out there, and it would psyker the buff he deserves

I could. But I chose otherwise. Don’t like it? Don’t care. lol

In that condition hordes should be replaced by barrels raining from the sky.

Map idea: a narrow bridge full of barrels, towers with unkillable snipers and bombers by the sides

Lol. It’s the astounding artwork that I find so enjoyable.

reverse tower defence, has anyone done that yet?

We basically have this in Vermintide 2.
Rats with explosive barrels on their backs. They appear in large groups that come running at you while screaming maniacally (not in regular missions though).

@Fatshark please make a new modifier: “Barrels of Fun” -all specialist spawns are now Bombers, and fire grenade is replaced with exploding barrel!
