The final area is such a large place, but if fight at the entrance to the area, the enemies come almost exclusively from one direction, making the battle monotonous. Sometimes it seems that specials and other enemies come from behind you due to bug spawns.
In my personal opinion, how about sealing the entrance when you come into the final area?
That way players can move around and fight and enjoy more exciting combat.
Honestly you should probably not be able to go into the rafters at all, as well as the entrance. It’s a fairly interesting arena with all the boxes around, but the real cover is up high next to all the enemy spawns. Not unsalvageable but it doesn’t seem well thought out as far as how players would utilize the area.
It’s so large yet there’s no reason to go anywhere besides the best place you find to stand – there’s no “Grab this box of stims from across the map and bring it to the loading dock”, the crescendo really is just about hitting things up in the bleachers for 10 mins.
The rest of the map is quite good, being an inverted map starting with a running bit.
I’m betting they’ll add a gate or something that closes this off.
That said, people haven’t figure out where to fight yet. Outside of that obvious cheese spot, the upper levels are generally safer than the arena proper. Trying to fight from the low ground is a lesson in pain.
First time though on damnation and we just sat and camped one of the ground level corridors and killed everything that came at us.
The odd zombie and dreg shooter dropped in behind us
So the end was a lot easier than the rest of the mission which was just balls to the wall endurance test.
There’s people who go down to fight?
I personally hate the final area, this games gives cover mechanics to the enemies but not to you, an area full of cover is a way better battlefield for the enemies than for us.
As a Ogryn it’s a nightmare, gunners/snipers from the other side of the arena are shooting at you the entire time lol generally the area where you get ammo before entering the coliseum seems to be the safest place to hold
No, they only go there to die.
Roughly 50% of defeats I had on the map stemmed from people failing to GTFO of the center ASAP after lighting the flare. They stay there, get shot to bits from all directions, and so the first domino falls…
Playing a psyker I always have the bubble shield up, so I mitigate the problem.
But the last arena is really the worst piece of the whole map.
Surprisingly, yes. I’ve seen people ping the middle of the arena or the little niches around it that are just begging to get firebombed.
I’m all about doing things the fun way, but you usually need the whole team to do it, otherwise you mostly just die.
Yeah, just had one guy going solo in the middle, then another one went to try and pick him up when he was inevitable downed, so there were 2 down.
So we had to go and pick them up and once they were up they did not try and get back to the initial position and decided to throw the run by dying there…
I could see a drop, instead of a gate being added.
It indeed linearilises the map.
Problem though is that gunners will ruin your day if you stand anywhere else
I agree. So many shooters, gunners, and snipers, from large distances across the open area… I only go to the beginning area. Even then some shoot from above and if you go too far up they drop behind you.
Yeah almost all the ones I’ve been in we’ve just camped the entrance hall. They should spawn a monstrosity or something, force you to move around.
