Really want some kind of smaller shield for more mobility but still able to block ranged. I grant this thing can have massive, game changing abilities, but it’s so dang dull for the user.
Maybe we could shoot around it? Or have another version we could?
Like this is a Baker Ballistics shield. It’s basically a hightech crossbowman’s pavis. It’s shown here suspended from a weight assist body mount doohickey, (doohickey is a technical term.)

It can be used without the doohicky though, and is flat on the bottom so it can be set down on the ground and used as a shooting rest.
Also, you can mount a strobe light/plain light/minicamera on the front and see through it with a tablet on the back.
This is their lightweight version which is not rated for rifle level threats, stops pistols only, but you could build it heavy for an ogyrn.
This video shows how swat teams use shields, and while there’s lots of other ideas on this kind of thing this is from Surefire who make a lot of the top weapon accessories today, company has a really solid reputation. He talks about running two pistols and how to reverse from right arm pistol/left arm shield to the opposite.
That said, a lot of shield users use large revolvers, and smith and wesson has a .357 magnum with eight shots designed just for them. The reason is that a shield user reaching a pistol around the shield can easily mess up with an automatic, where the slide of the automatic hits the shield and causes a failure to cycle. Result is many prefer to start with a revolver which won’t do that. (There are other ways to address the problem, but the revolver is a popular option.)
The revolver Smith came up with for this request is the Smith & Wesson 327 TRR8, which is quite large and can mount optics and lights, can be loaded with moon clips, and again, is an eight shot revolver in 357 magnum.
Also, crossbowmen used pavis shields for hundreds of years.
So some kind of shooting while using or deploying a shield isn’t weird at all.
