Hello and Happy Friday! This week’s question is:
What’s the weirdest food you’ve ever tried (and would you eat it again)?
I’m disappointed to say I can’t think of anything particularly weird that I’ve eaten… In the US, biscuits and gravy was a bit weird to me, as in the UK a biscuit is something else entirely. I would try it again!
That’s a tough one. I guess it depends what one considers weird.
Is lard (with pork scratching and an apple) considered weird?
Or fermented dairy products?
Do it have to be outside of your regional cuisine - something that is not popular or just weird by any standard?
Alright, I think I’ve got it:
Alligator meat. It wasn’t weird, just unusual, also a bit tough to chew.
I’ll try it again but maybe in some other configuration than deep-fried.
A quite common thing to do in Belgium: Tuna mayo on (canned) halved peaches
Spicy Pepper and Mangoe ice-cream
And Cactus comming up with a clutch!
Tuna with mayo and fruits is definitely weird.
Oh my Emperor… this unlocked some horrible memories now you’ve mentioned it.
I remember when I was constantly tormented as a kid with tuna-corn-pineapple-mayo-cheese salad. This salad was easy to make, because everything except cheese and mayo came in cans.
I hated it.
Hmm I keep to my go to foods so not many weird things either, at least to me…
…in my college years…
…okay when i write it out it does sound wierd…
It was all the rage in the 90ties. Now it’s not so popular I think.
Also there were noodles or rice involved.
Naaah. Seems fine to me, at least at some stages of life (the college years).
This one brings up fun memories.
I mean they become more fun the further in the timeline I am from last such event.
For me, I’m going to interpret this question as something new I tried out of my comfort zone and dug - so I’m going to say pho as my answer. I didn’t like it at first, but over time the taste sort of processed in my mind, I got a craving, tried it again, and loved it.
Would highly recommend asian soups in general. Delicious, healthy, and filling.
OMG yes! This was a favorite as a kid. Just sprinkle the seasoning packet on top of the noodle block and crunch away.
For me, I once had a margarita that had a dried scorpion as a garnish. They told me it was edible so I ate it; very crunchy but didn’t really have any flavor.
Umm… no particular problems later? None whatsoever?
You Good Sir, are one awfully hydrated and tough cookie.
Or maybe young people are build different.
OMG forgot about the SEASONING!!!
I didn’t think they were that bad… we did find some really old canned water MREs no one was brave enough to drink it… bet it would have sold well on eBay tho.
Thank you for confirming to me that not only does Belgium exist, but that it is also responsible for such a culinary abomination.
Can humanity just do the right thing and stop it with the tuna and mayo already?
Mayo goes well with Tuna, if you don’t pick lemon mayo.
Tuna mayo and relish on crackers was a hiking snack
If you’re starving and there’s nothing else in the immediate vicinity, perhaps.
I’ve had sheep brains, rabbit, goat and elk. as far as meats go not bad except the sheep brains which was horrid and muddy? like eating fat flavored dirt
the weirdest dish I’ve had however was tripe stew
when i had the misfortune of ordering this I did not know what “pacal” or its english translation meant. the concept was that alien to me. it was awful and rubbery.
mayo does go great with tuna. i have it as a snack sometimes mix in tuna, mayo finely chopped onion and black pepper and its really good.
…If you were starving on a tropical island with only Tuna and Mayo would you mix them or eat them seperately?
