Off-Topic Fridays: If You Could Only Eat One Cuisine for the Rest of Your Life, Which Would It Be?

Good morning and Happy Friday! It’s an early one this week!:

If you could only eat one cuisine for the rest of your life, which would it be?

Edit: and Happy 4th of July to our mates across the pond!

I’m torn between Italian and Mexican. But I might be weighing towards Italian because I’m in my minestrone soup era

Does Mediterranean count? if so Eastern European

As a big enjoyer of pickles, stews, soups and hearty meals I’d have to go with that

Having eaten nothing but 1kg (every third day 2kg) of Lidl lasagna for 7 months straight alongside food supplements and still ending up eating them at least once a month to this day since then, because I love them, I’d have to say Italian I guess.

Nowadays I just cook a 3 days worth of pasta and cream/cheese sauce, 2 days of some odds and ends of food mulligan stew and a “proper” 2 serving dish for me and my bf depending on what he fancies for lunch/dinner on the weekends. In conclusion of that I feel very confident if I’d just change the phrase to “stew alla puttanesca” I am already set. It’d not be that offmark perhaps. :rat: :skull:

Any Slavic or east slavic cuisine is a strong second though.

I grew up on my mamma’s homemade Italian food and never got sick of it. Therefore, I’ll have to go with Italian food! Chinese, Korean, Mexican and Japanese food are the other four runner-ups.

Then you might enjoy Mexican-style salame, they’re superb on sandwiches and the like.

Obligatory Murican Cuisine.

But that maybe too broad as most American restaurant versions aren’t considered true to the cuisines plus all the variants Southern BBQ, TexMex and Taco Bell…

Mexican food if I had to be specific love my Enchiladas w/ beans n rice

Wheat free (chinese if I could).

I think i’d say Chinese just because of the massive variety. Wouldn’t want to eat the same or to similar things over and over again. But in China got so much delicious different Stuff and Hot Pot too

Swedish cuisine. Its what I grew up on and the cuisine of my country. While its great to taste food from across the world and its something which I enjoy, I never get tired of the food I grew up on, something I fear I might do with other cuisines if I only ate that for year after year.

Do you have some examples of Swedish Cuisine? I only know those Meatballs (which are great) but else i only know those stinky Sürstrom Fish or whatever its called from YT lol

Also check out the German Grünkohl and Pinkel (i think its called Kale with sausage/smoked sausage in engl.); especially if you mix it wish mashed potatoes its fire

Of course. There are many dishes that I enjoy. Not all of them are “only in Sweden” kind of food but they’re delightful.

Here is a small selection

Toast Skagen - Toasted bread with the seafood mix (mostly shrimp but some other stuff as well as I recall) Skagenröra on top

Gravlax - Cold cured salmon. There’s a sauce based, I think, on mustard to this which is a touch of paradise to eat.

Pyttipanna - Diced potatoes, onions and meats fried together and served with beets and fried egg. Good on its own and useful for using up leftovers.

Pannbiff - I think that the Anglo-American “Salisbury steak” is somewhat similar to this dish in conception if not necessarily in taste. Friend onion is a must to this dish!

Wallenbergare - A more luxurious version of “pannbiff” with veal as the meat of choice and some other changes to the recipe. One thing to note is that pannbiff is usually served with fried onion where Wallenbergare are not, you have clarified butter and peas along with mashes potatoes for this. In the picture its served with lingonberries which is an option but not necessarily fully traditional even if common.

Isterband - One of my favorites in that its an acidic pork sausage that’s wonderful with almost anything and I couldn’t get enough of them.

Falukorv i ugn - Essentially a big sausage that you fill with different goodies and cook in the oven. Very tasty and served with mashes potatoes.

Panerad fisk - Pan fried fish. I know this is common across the world but its so very good! Another of my favorites that I couldn’t get enough of!

Smörgåstårta - Literally “sandwich cake” which comes in several different versions but are all very good, especially with shrimps on a hot summer day.

Ooh, tough one! I’d probably go with Pakistani cuisine, nothing beats a good biryani or spicy karahi with some fresh naan. :face_savoring_food:

So many flavors packed into every bite, I honestly don’t think I could get bored of it even in 100 years.
What about you all, anyone else into bold, spicy food?
