Off-Topic Fridays: What Is Your Favourite Pasta Shape & Why?

Hi hi, Happy Friday! This week’s question, inspired by my recent visit to Italy :italy::

What is your favourite pasta shape, and why?

Fettuccini, easy. Because it’s less of hassle to deal with than thinner spaghetti or angel hair. Hope the dev teams doing okay.

Fusilli is the best all-rounder imo but tubular varieties are nice in a particularly saucy pasta! I don’t vibe with Farfalle

Isn’t Ravioli (and tortellini) cheating ? As they’re filled with things that are tasty.

Would say Gnocchi though.

NO, RAVIOLI 1000x RAVIOLI my favorite dinner and never satisfied…

Its the hot pocket of pasta you can fill it with ANYTHING

I prefer the round shapes for easier consumption

Hiya, Jules! Which parts of Italy did you visit? My family originate from Emilia-Romagna, Lazio and Toscana.

It depends on what you’re using them for! Different dishes work best with different pasta shapes! For general use, I tend to gravitate towards capellini (“angel hair”), pappardelle or tagliatelle.

All pasta shapes are good pasta, however! My overall “favourite” would probably have to be tagliatelle, though. It’s an incredibly versatile flat pasta, and it’s what my mamma uses for most of her pasta dishes.

Awesome! I was in a rural part of the country, but the nearest city was Ancona, the other side of Lazio!

The different shapes are supposed to be for different sauce types, fusili has the ridges so oily or creamy sauces cling to the curves, penne rigate is designed to hold more sauce etc.

I personally dislike the mess I make by eating long spaghetti/tagliatelle/linguini/capellini and I prefer just shoveling food into my gob, so little pasta like Conchigliette is my favourite.

This pasta is delicious and deserves to be widely available! I’ve never seen it in-store!
