Vet main here and if I’m lucky and we get a team of four veterans, that’s the best gaming experience I can have in Auric Maelstrom.
The same goes for four Ogryns, and I know I’ve just gotten lucky with the groups, but every time I’ve been on a team of four veterans or four Ogryns, it’s been the smoothest ride for me.
Especially those moments where we as two Shield Ogryns are placing our shields at a choke point against a mixed horde and the two Gunlugger Ogryns are behind our shields shooting everything to pieces with their stubbers while Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd is playing on max volume.
Putting up with locking class queues would take the fun out of the game (players would not be able to play what they enjoy - I really only play my veteran Quorin for example) and makes no sense, as we are not the Vermintide heroes, but nameless acolytes.
It would also make the queue take way longer and I am not sure how you would get players to even join empty slots in games that are already going on.
I’ve been asking for some form of role queue since the game launched.
Once you start playing on the higher difficulties, your team composition actually matters a lot. It sucks to lose a run because your team simply didn’t have what it needed to solve whatever problem the AI director threw at you.
Or at the very least please let us change classes in the pre-mission lobby.
Coming from Gears 5, class restrictions in PVE are ass and should never be welcomed, especially if the game didn’t have restrictions before.
Gears 5 tried this at launch in PVE and it nearly killed it outright. People want to play what they want to play. Thankfully The Coalition went back to unrestricted class picks a few seasons in.
I’ve once played a team of three psykers and a vet. All three psykers were bubble, we also had smite and void staff, probably brain burst. The easiest yet fun run.
The PVE has had classes for a while now. Gears 5 tried a versus mode with classes, Arcade, but it definitely never caught on.
Historically, Gears has never restricted the amount of a given class in a match, or the character skin one can use with a given class. At launch, Gears 5 tried to both disallow duplicate classes, and tie classes to specific characters. It did not go well, and The Coalition had to do a 180 on it, along with a bunch of other changes, the vast majority of which were for the better.
The traditional versus was also garbage at launch for a variety of reasons, and was also fixed to be tremendously better.
With the exception of dumping into QP, which is a choice, I don’t see any real downside to the free-for-all team comps we have now. We can see blitz/aura/ult and weapons, so you can build around the team if necessary.
The bigger issue in my mind is that you can’t switch class in the pre-match lobby. And I hope that gets changed.
But for anyone who wants specific team comps, there’s always premades.
come on OP, the game isn’t balanced for “Classes”. hell half the builds i see are people seemingly trying to make the most useless build because they saw some no-lifer on youtube play it as a joke.
Is this proposing a system like CS? Being able to swap your build over before you leave the spawn sounds like a good idea! It’s a tad annoying when you join halfway through a match and there’s no lobby to change your build before you load in.
I was talking about the 60 seconds you have before a mission starts. I think that would be a lot easier and kess complicated than mid mission character swapping.
Sorry, I didn’t mean mid-mission! Your idea’s better, though. I just meant to convey at the beginning spawn point of the mission there could be that second chance to swap to a different build before you start heading off with your team. In the event of a mid-mission spawn, it’d be nice to have those extra few seconds or so to swap and then spawn in instead of just getting dropped in with whatever preset you’ve currently got.
