I think I have it in black on my ogryn.

Yeah this one just hasn’t been seen in the Cadian green pattern yet (though one has been in the files since launch). Similarly there’s the ‘Relic of Cadia’ green flak armor they refuse to give us for Veteran…they literally made another black and green recolor for it to avoid giving it to us with the Stygian revision. When can we have the plain jane/john Guardsmen about?

Which is kind of sad, we always get the junk versions.

They do look very similar, pity they did not come with the back item and head piece.

Did someone say Nork Deddog? Hurrah! This is one of the greatest pieces of writing to ever appear in 40k (3E IG Codex, 1999):

Apologies for the image quality, you’ll have to blame the original scan.

Man, it needs a commissar servo skull on it. Either hovering around or something.

I love the sun scorch/armaggedon ork hunter stripes myself…I know they’re not for everyone but they have such hardcore late 80s/early 90s energy I love them to death. I can’t believe we only got pants for the psyker.

Yeah it not the same and I am quite sad to see most ogryn armors cut a bit short on belly.

I get that its inspiration is modern, plate carriers. However, they should not be that short. Exposing liver etc, which bleeds a lot. Not great. I just want something like Crushers have, fully plated armor stuff.

And the 2-handed Chain Axe for the big man. He only has 1 2-handed weapon. Just give me a huge bladed weapon.

Lack of shield plus blade variant is really obxious, I want to cut my way. Through the hordes and see the glorious melee of DT, not bonk my way with a heavy attack.

You inspired me to dig out my copy. I didn’t know Helguns are also referred to as Hellguns back then too, they must’ve changed it to one L for a while. Amazing, thankyou Sir.

The huge figure shambled towards where the thin and tangled
body of Colonel Greiss lay. Luckily the ancient colonel had
been thrown free of the carrier as it veered out of control. Now
the Chimera perched up ended in a drainage ditch. steam and
smoke pouring from its crew compartment. The force of the
explosion had pitched Greiss into a ditch on the other side of
the track.

As the massive Ogryn towered over the tiny body he sensed that
his master was badly hurt. He looked for a moment at the oddly
twisted limbs and blood-soaked uniform and poked the old man
a couple of times to make sure he wasn’t fooling Greiss moaned
faintly
Nork felt a tide of misery well up inside his huge and faithful
heart, Greiss was his friend. Greiss had been good to Nork and
let him fight by his side. The Ogryn fumbled with his water
bottle. breaking off the cap with clumsy hands as he gently
preferred the bottle to the man’s lips
Greiss murmured as the cool water splashed over his face.
“Nork.” he whispered. "Stop trying to drown me and fetch the
medi-pack
“Yus, sarr!” shouted Nork, saluting instinctively with his left
hand. then his right hand, then both hands together
Nork shuffled to his feet and loped buck toward the carrier. He
picked his way past the crumpled bodies of the crew and the
HQ squad. noticing with only passing curiosity the pain in his
own legs where numerous shrapnel hits had penetrated his thick

hide Without a second thought he grabbed hold of the Chimera
behind its rear track guards and heaved The weighty vehicle
shifted slightly. He heaved again There was a creak of tortured
metal as the carrier pivoted against the soft edge of the ditch
and came to rest on its broad tracks.

Colonel Greiss tried to flex his hands. Nothing He tried to raise
his head but as he did so his vision swirled and he lost
consciousness. He came round moments later. or minutes, of was
it hours, it was hard to tell. His cars were booming from the
noise of the explosion. All he could hear was a sound like
something large and heavy being slowly dragged over an
unyielding surface. His sight schemed to be growing dim and
shadowy. Then he realized Nork was standing over him and
beside Nork was the wreckage of the Chimera The Ogryn had
dragged the armoured carrier out of the ditch and twenty yards
down the road.

“I said fetch the medi-kit, not the carrier, Nork.” whispered
Greiss. He was regaining the fecling in his arms and legs and
didn’t like it much.
“Da medi-kit is in da carrier, surr,” beamed the Ogryn.
“Good thinking Nork.” grunted the colonel through clenched
teeth and mounting pain. “Now bring the medi-kit over here.”
“Yus, surr!” came the loud and snappy response as Nork plunged
into the Chimera, remembered he had forgotten to salute, came
back. saluted twice for good measure, and busied himself
searching for the vehicle’s medical supply chest

So what happens next?! Does Greiss survive? Does Nork heroically avenge his death? Does the emprah himself come down and whip it?

Dont leave me hanging like this!!!

Greiss succumbed to his injuries and Nork honored him in the best way possible, he ate him.
After all, isn’t there a little “Greiss” in all of us?

Stumbled on old reddit post w/ img and text, maybe they talk about it more in there?

One comment has some more lore, I bolded the part about Greiss for ease of locating (although idk if its just me, but bolded text looks pretty much the same on my screen):

Nork Deddog is a legend in his own lifetime, an Ogryn whose fighting abilities are almost astonishing as his mental development. By Ogryn standards Nork is a veritable genius; he can sign his own name(“N” is fer Nork), count to four (his thumb still confuses him though), and even speak in short sentences. Such precocious development in one of his race inevitably came to the attention of the Commissars and Nork soon found himself place on special duties.

After extensive training, Nork Deddog was assigned to the Catachan II Regiment fighting on Balor. The regiment’s commander, Colonel Greiss adopted Nork as his personal bodyguard, and the Ogryn accompanied Greiss through the four years that war lasted. During this time the sight of Greiss and Nork became a familar one: one ancient and bone-thin colonel bawling out his orders whist shells burst around him and bullets ricocheted off Nork’s dense skull. The Ogryn bodyguard save Colonel Greiss’s life on many occasions, most famously when he carried the badly wound Catachan commander back from the disaster at Hill-Gammer Zero.

Nork’s reputation for loyalty is unsurpassed and his skills as a bodyguard have been in high demand by Imperium officers across the sector. When Ork Warboss Uglurk Gitsmasha and a mob of his hardest Meganobz charged the Imperial Guard’s command dugout, Nork Deddog was the only one to stand his ground beside Sub-overlord Ven Vambold. Nork killed the massive greenskin with a single headbutt of such extreme violence that the remaining Orks were totally awestruck and retreated rather than face the angry Ogryn bodyguard.

Nork’s own body has proven time and again to be the most effective sheild an officer can have against enemy fire. Nork will do his upmost to protect his master from harm, even going as far as to throw himself in front of enemy fire. On Follax IV Nork selflessly leapt on top of an enemy grenade that would have otherwise killed Commander Richep, crushing both the grenade and the grenadier to a pulp beneath his massive bulk. The explosion that followed was muffled and Nork seemed to notice his resulting shrapnel wounds with only passing curiosity.

Nork has personally save and the lives of over a hundred officers and by doing so has been instrumental in securing victories on dozens of worlds. Nork has a large collection of medals, laurels, citations and personal gifts, including the Commissar’s cap given to him by Aaron Blest that became his trademark during the Dimmamak war. It is not for trinkets or bauble that Nork Deddog continues to serve (although he is particularly proud of his big shiny buttons), but rather it is for the content feeling he gets when fighting at a friend’s side.

Edit: Also, his lexicanum entry doesnt mention him being dead, so Im gonna assume Nork carried him out and this might well be from the disaster at the Hill-Gammer Zero incident.

that’s also what makes the chaos ogryns so endearing to me. they’re so loyal to their friends they are able to be deceived into believing everything they knew was a lie, because everyone else was doing it. I feel bad killing them because they’re still the good guys deep down, just spikier and more diseased than you remember.

also on the subject of those servo skulls that SHOULD BE IN THE GAME, isn’t one of the Mcfarlane Darktide model accessories a servo skull with a commissar cap and eye patch? why didn’t this feature make it into the game? I know ‘there’s a mod for it’ but man money was left on the table not having a customizable eyeball for Hadron and the rest of the sitcom gang floating above your character.

The 40k Codexs are full of short stories aimed at revving your imagination. Theyre very open-ended and serve as great flavour text for the units ‘Data Slate’ in the book itself.

This is, imho, why all 40k games are usually B tier games, including DT. They (GW) will not risk a game being too polished it becomes an alternative to imagination, the main currency of the franchise.

And it is the same reason GW step in to quash fan based good short stories/films like Astarties!
