New biomes, daytime and various variation maps

I like the current Map atmosphere, but they all seem very similar.
I wish there were new biomes, daytime, forest…etc.
for example, I am thinking that a daytime or map like Space Marine 2 would spice things up in a new way.

New biomes, new enemies (tyranids, orks), map variations (map designed as tiles and airlocks as link), this is really what I want

When I see that the game can’t display next map part when you go out of several airlocks… I guess dynamic maps are possibles… and maybe they are working on

I’d prefer other Chaos Cults and Daemons. Orks deserve their own game and Tyranids don’t really make sense in the situation we’re in

Won’t argue on that…

In the present game, you’re absolutely right, they do not fit the DT universe. Just a dream.

But yes, you’re right, chaos cults make more sense. Also, they could just add enemies types

For area, i know VT2 got a few to many Ice/Snow area, but I’d like to see a Dome/Ridge map, high in altitude but on the outside of the map (Both day and night mode) that is battered by the winds and iced over

So, our current our locations are:

  • Transit Hub HL-16-11 “Chasm Terminus”
  • Manufactorum HL-17-36 “Metalfab 36”
  • Habzone HL-18-66 “The Torrent”
  • Habzone HL-19-24 “Throneside”
  • Freight Port HL-32-2 “The Hourglass”

If I had to place them from top to bottom of the hive it would be:
Lower Hive: “The Torrent”, “Metalfab 36”
Mid-Hive: “Chasm Terminus”, “The Hourglass”, “Throneside”
Upper Hive: None

In terms of biomes (from low to high in the hive) we have: soggy ghetto, hot factory, transit sector, dusty outside, and middleclass church district.

Of these one has significantly different lighting due to being exposed to the outside.

The others are all within the hive structure itself. Even Throneside has a roof and voidships over our head. I would be all for a more dynamic environmental system, it could even borrow from some of the special conditions already in play such as lights out or ventilation purge, but those maps are all indoors essentially, excepting The Hourglass. That all said, I have long suggested new locations, such as moving further up to the upper hive, a noble’s abandoned summer palace, or an agricultural sector, or even the insides of a voidship like we see above us in throneside, re-boarding the tancred bastion, a mega-train (slightly stolen from Hired Gun). There are more possibilities, and there are ways of making concepts work, but the places where our missions take place are very much indoors.

Hourglass would be Lower Hive too, part of the Outskirt of it.

Originally I considered that, though I hesitated based on how they mentioned the air in hourglass was so much different. That made me think it wasn’t just the atmospheric shield being missing, but even the fact that it was above the smog of the lower regions.

Yes please ! New biomes are needed ! i really like the idea of a massive indor farm area, with trees corrupted by chaos, or something like a high district, above the clouds, close to space, where we could be outdoor…
Anything different than industrial zone plz

The other fun idea is to go even deeper, down into the parts of the hive where even gangers fear to venture. What sort of things lurkin the darkest roots of Tertium?

Or outside the hive entirely… in the wasteland, then down into caverns.

Or on a train transiting to the fabled second hive city.

About the Outside maps (Ash Waste and all) I think the difficulty is making it work with the system they’ve made, they can’t make a map where it’s a big plain, as ranged enemies would be absolutely the worst, and it would limit their ability to reuse the sector.

So they would need to have ways to rail road us, like placing us in Canyons, Sludge Swamps and other.

Like doing an Ash Waste Sector that place us on top of a Canyon, going inside of it to explore ancients ruins the tide is trying to use for a ritual, before getting out of it etc…
With other mission starting inside the ruins and us getting out of it through the Inter Hive tunnels (Used to be a thing in Necromunda iirc)

They could also add sort of ruins…
But I guess that Tertium does not have trees on its surface. We clearly hear it at the beginning of two missions when they give details about the air quality.
However, Tertium is not the alpha and omega… for me new biomes means new “story” (new planet = really different maps) and new options (enemies). We don’t have a story in the game, but at least it would need an explanation.

Anyways, we need different places. And if they could make a system to dynamically link map tiles (=small parts of a map starting from an air lock or a lift and that end at the next one). This is really what I would want cause we would never get the same mission. Especially cause tiles could see special conditions applied, we could have differences (random path blocked/opened), they could also invert the path (entry/exit), and, yes, I would like also variations day / light.
And yes… new biomes and new architectural styles (so what they call “map” actually) would be really great.

I think it should stay pretty close to Atoma, mainly to explain why there are Dreg/Scab on site. Do we know if Atoma has a moon ?

TL;DR version

If VT2 sent you all over the globe via a magic portal, then being stationed out in Orbit should let you travel a bit in Darktide

Except Vt2 is quite limited in where you go. Mainly stay in the Western side of the Empire and then Norsca and thee Chaos Waste.
