the mk iv has attacks with 0.6 carapace adm
and it’s a bit jank to use can opener ripper gun for the 40% brittleness needed to bridge the gap

The problem with cleavers being mediocre if bad against Carapace doesn’t really stem from them having bad ADMs or having to rely on combos like Can Opener to kill armour - it’s mainly because:
So maybe instead of adjusting the weapon to the power creep, something should be done about that? Or give the cleavers non-janky means (looking at Mk6 cleaver) of handling those that don’t rely on chaining push into a „hidden” heavy attack that does OK against Carapace, but the rest of the attack moveset it has is still worthless, if you’re forced into facing a multiple of enemy the push chain combo is not good into.
I think cleavers generally need more interactions, rather than solving their issues with the boring rending band-aid.
“we could do one thing… or we could do a bunch of other things instead”
we’re talking about fatshark :^|
Odds are that nothing may change. At this point the game is having a huge backlog of unattended balance changes that ought to be tackled way back when, but probably never will be.
They buffed cleavers some time ago only to completely ruin them again by increasing HP of elites…
Make the punch follow up good vs Carapace or give punch brittle.
It would be great to have a combo of attacks that allows you to remain nimble/kite multiple elites at once, for sure.
I mean just take the cleave blessing. Your hits stop bouncing off carapace and you can cleave whole rooms full of enemies with a fully charged heavy.
Charging heavies to the max is a huge DPS and toughness regen loss in most cases, this blessing on the cleavers is a meme, it was only useful when it was bugged and applied to any heavy attack.
Have they fixed the bug with the Mk4’s blessing “Unstoppable Force” where you don’t need to max charge the Heavies for it to proc ?
Edit : nevermind they probably have
That’s not what was going on. It’s that it makes any heavy attack ignore the hit mass from armor, and fully charged completely ignore all enemy hit mass. It’s just that in typical FS tooltip fashion, it doesn’t explain that part. That’s why it’s so good. It stops all heavy attacks from bouncing off carapace, and you cleave through hordes to hit elites like you’re using the power maul with brutal momentum, without fully charging, but fully charging will remove hit mass for hordes. It’s actually a really good blessing, people just don’t use it long enough to figure out how it works because of the description not matching its true utility. It’s not as powerful as 60% heavy attack damage, so it gets ignored. But with crit or strength, it can be an okay elite killer.
