Need loot for Cataclysm

While there are fewer lobbies for QP cata, I have found that you are much more likely to find people who are looking to play smart as a team on cata games versus legend. Plus its really nice not to have to deal with books, which feel like a chore more than anything else after you’ve played the level dozens of times.

I could see having cata automatically give an emp vault or something, but adding another tier of items wouldn’t work. It would A) bring too many people who are not ready for cata into the lobbies and B) kind of be unfair to everyone who doesn’t have that gear. At least with reds you can make orange items that are functionally the same or very similar before even doing much champion.

I do like having portrait frames as cata rewards, that feels appropriate.

Personally I do all of the vanilla stuff specifically for loot, frames and such. If the point is in challenge, what was the idea to add commendation chests and making Cata exclusive achievements with them? You don’t have to play Cata just for the loot, but getting more skins or frames for it would be really nice. Especially if it’s really challenging stuff, because while I do most of the challenges for loot it doesn’t mean I like it that way. It’s mostly about challenges being boring as hell.

If we’re talking about challenge after some time Cata becomes a cake walk, especial lf you’re playing with premade party. There are outside of vanilla stuff that is never “cake walk” even for the most experienced players like Cata 3 Onslaught and such, and compared to high weaves it’s not a gamemode full of broken game mechanics forcing you to play in a specific, limiting and boring way.

Anyway, I don’t see any reason outside of saving resources to not add any rewards. Reward > no reward. People becoming toxic because there are rewards is an argument I’ll never understand. People will be always toxic about everything in online games. In my first hours of Vermintide I’ve been blamed for not carrying a premade party of 3 guys in my first champion game. Toxicity has little to do with rewards.

In my opinion, a decent compromise would be if Cata was treated like legend deeds with regards to rewards.
Meaning you should be given a guaranteed extra legend vault just for completing a map on Cata.
Say like a guaranteed Emp vault for completing the map on cata + the vault you get from the books, dice, Ranald etc.
Essentially just like a legend deed.

That would not create issues with Cata specific loot or push any players into Cata “just for the loot”.
Rather, it would be closer to Vt1 Cata vs. Nightmare, where you had better loot on Cata, but the risk vs. reward for most people was way better on Nightmare. In Vt2, a no book Cata run is still harder than a full book legend run.

After all, a harder challenge warrants a better reward, does it not? The reward should just not be “too much better”, and I doubt another Emp vault would be any reason to risk playing Cata when you’re not ready for it.

Also, making Cata free for everybody (and rewarding Cata just a bit more) could add more players to Cata. And more players would definitely be nice.

I would support the idea. Even if I think a cata reward could be the same vault than legend with a chance for hats (the same than commendations chests =p).

While I understand the concern, I find that the current state of reward is sufficient enough. People talk about frames but there is an additional decoration to the banners after completing cata difficulty. Skins and hats are fine but you can’t see them unless you watch your char in a menu or spectate mode.
I’m tired to open the chests for nothing and clean up my inventory, so I don’t want additional chests.
The only reward I want to is a sense of achievement and maybe the ability to show it - both are in my pocket already. That’s why we need cata frame for BtU.
Also as some of u mentioned before - adding any content exclusively for cata we’ll be perceived as ‘pay to win’ because of difficulty paywall .

But we have that already. There has never been a frame for completing the three BtU missions on any difficulty, only for completing the secret mission ~ Fortunes of War ~. And for this, we have a frame both for Legend as well as Cataclysm.

That frame is for FoW completion only as its description says. You can get it w/o even appearing at BtU adventure maps as far as I know.

Doesn’t change the fact that there is no Legend analogue for just playing the three BtU maps. So why should there be one for Cataclysm. Also doesnt change the fact that you can unlock FoW only by completing the secrets in the three BtU maps.

Of course you can skip that by someone hosting the map but it is not the intended way.

Well perhaps if Fatshark expands the whole “keep decoration” aspect they could include a few decorations that pertain to Cataclysm. Perhaps introduce an npc residing in the building near weaves stuff (not Catrine’s tower) as some shifty bloke who knows Lohner and can provide some acquisitions for a price.

Well I understand that FS not wish to make Catacylsm as only way to play this game…
If they implement special chests for catacysm it will make anything else obsolete.

In other hand its unfair to have same chest for cata as for legend, maybe some tweak can be done?

Ideally you should reach a point in Vermintide where you play for the gameplay experience and don’t care about loot.

Personal opinion:

Cosmetic reward would be very welcome
Finishing a level on Cataclysm should give the same loot bonus as finishing a Legend game with all books

If the challenge itself is not enough to make you want to play Cata, then Cata isn’t meant for you. More importantly, what you propose is to essentially turn Vermintide into a completely different game. Vermintide was designed with the power cap in mind – meaning that each player will reach a certain point where their hero is not getting any stronger, and after that point they can only get more powerful by honing their gaming skills, which they can do indefinitely. You suggest a fundamental change that will make Vermintide closer to Diablo or WoW, where by doing ever more challenging content you get progressively better loot, and the power of your hero can grow higher with each new content update.
