Issue Description:
The issue seems less severe right after loading into a game, but after playing a match or staying in the keep long enough, simply moving the mouse within a menu screen causes over 50% FPS drops (I can go from 140fps to under 50).
edit:
It seems to get worse the longer I am in the inventory menu.
Also on dx11, and with higher worker threads, the issue persists.
Steps to Reproduce:
I just have to play a map, come back to the keep and it’s pretty severe.
I have disabled all mods, and even reverted all gfx settings to low and the issue persists (seen in the 2nd vid). I have also attempted restarting, windows updates, and graphics drivers updates to no effect.
Platform:
Steam
Player ID:
I don’t know what this is.
Approx. Time of Issue & Timezone:
pretty much all day, sat oct 28 and sunday morning EST.
It may not be the case here, but some of our Darktide players have encountered similar issues which were caused by certain mouse brands using their own software which could tank FPS when moving the mouse. Could this apply?
I didn’t have any issues in Darktide of a similar nature with the same mouse, but I can try it out tonight.
I have razer synapse running for the viper v2 pro, though the mouse still works with the software off so I will reply later when I’ve tested with the software off.
Heyo! In case disabling that software does not work, one of our developers has also suggested that you try lowering your mouse’s polling rate, see if that helps.
The software at first seemed to make an improvement, but maybe it was just scaling slower. You can see on this graph when I start waving my mouse around in a menu screen the frametime spikes up and the fps goes down, this was after two games which I hosted:
It might also be because I spent less time in the menu overall, it feels like it “ramps up” worse and worse the longer is spent in the “new” inventory or character selection screens. I’ll need to test tomorrow if reducing the polling rate (currently 1000hz) or if the old inventory UI shows a significant improvement.
I think my previous results were placebo, or I just didn’t spend enough time with it. The issue persists with 500 polling rate, software disabled. Some more updated info: the issue is either non-existent, or not as obvious after first launching the game, but it gets worse the longer it’s running.
Thanks for the added info. One of our developers has asked if you could please provide us with an ETW trace so we can look into this.
To do so:
Get the latest release (etwpackage1.58.zip as of today) from Releases · google/UIforETW · GitHub. This is an open-source tool from Google to record and manage Event Tracing for Windows (ETW) traces.
Extract the contents, and run etwpackage\bin\UIforETW.exe. This will install the necessary versions of the Windows Performance Toolkit.
Ensure that [Tracing to file] is selected. (See screenshot below.)
Boot the game, and prepare a situation in which the issue can be reproduced…
Press Ctrl+Win+R to start a trace. Wait 2 Mississippis.
Reproduce the issue that cause performance drops.
Wait 2 Mississippis. Press Ctrl+Win+R again to stop the trace.
You can then right-click the trace and select Browse folder to open the Documents\Etwtraces folder containing the traces.
Please proide us with the .etl file for the trace.
The .etl file may be quite large, so if this can’t be directly uploaded, if you can host the file in a google drive folder and share a link that would be great. Though important note, please DM me this link privately as this file will contain a lot of information about your PC (e.g. programs you have open etc.) so best this isn’t publicly shared
