Issue Description:
During the last beta and this beta I have been unable to play the game due to massive frame rate drops when turning the camera. This was present during the last beta on the ship, tutorial, and in missions. In the current beta I can not test beyond the prolog mission. Without moving FPS will sit around 80, when moving with WSAD the framerate will remain stable. If the mouse is used to move the camera around however the FPS counter will show a sudden drop to between 4-16fps and the game will experience a half to full-second stutter.
To resolve this issue I tried
Running the application in fullscreen and windowed
Updating Nvidia Drivers including a clean install
Installing to a different drive
Setting graphical settings to the highest and lowest settings
Using a different monitor and disabling G-Sync on my current monitor
Updating windows, restarting, and booting only the game and no other background programs
No improvement in the issue could be observed, changing graphical settings did lower the GPU and CPU utilization shown in task manager as expected

I recorded from game launch, issue begins at 1:40
I updated the game today and the issue was still present. Testing further revealed the game lags the same way when the mouse is moved on the menu.
I was able to get around this issue by using a controller. On a whim I tested a second mouse and that worked just fine as well. For whatever reason Darktide and Darktide only really hates my mouse which is a G903
What happens if you stand still and just move the mouse around? Does it have the similar stutter to what I saw? Also does this happen on the menu for you?
I tested with
Xbox One Controller - Works
Logitech MX Master 3 - Works
Logitech G903 - Lags
Same effect even if I don’t move. I tried using a controller and it’s a dream so thats ok for now. Hopefully they can correct this. As i mentioned in the other thread, this occurred for me with B4B as well. they solved it at launch.
I have a (maybe) similar problem but it only started after the nov 18 patch. Basically every 20-40s the game stutters 3-4 times when I’m moving my mouse. It’s always the same duration and then everything goes back to smooth.
In the meat grinder it seems to happen less often, but it’s the same thing, turning the camera causes massive stuttering for a window of ~2 seconds and then everything is smooth again. To me this started happening only after the patch.
I’ve updated my drivers and played around with the settings but it didn’t work.
EDIT: after I wrote this the problem literally stopped. I didn’t do anything just wrote this reply while the game was running in the background
EDIT EDIT: the next day the same issue is back, I’ve tried switching to fullscreen then borderless but didn’t work. so i played around in the meat grinder then came back here to write, but I didn’t save the edit thinking it might fix itself again, and surely enough after that the game was fine again. I quit and started playing the game later, the stuttering is back. I’m not sure if enough time needs to pass or something about being alt-tabbed for a long time fixes the problem but it happened twice now almost the same way. Play like 1-2hours, alt tab for a long time, stuttering is gone.
I found a friend to compare notes with, he also had a 1000hz mouse (zowie fk2) and it worked fine.
I used the Logitech G software to reduce my polling rate from 1000hz to 250hz and the issue seems to of gone away. The issue is present at 500hz. Mouse input doesn’t exactly feel great but it isn’t jumping around with lag
Edit2: After more extended gameplay the issue is lower but still present at 250hz and 125hz on the mouse. It gets progressively smaller but it just skips around a bit making it hard to use. I went back to my working mouse
I’m also using a wireless logitech g502 and I randomly get framedrops. I dropped the report rate to 250 but I really can’t reliably say how much it worked. I’ve tried plugging it in and the stutters seem to be less frequent(?). I’m just messing around with it in the meat grinder, I’ll try running a game while it’s plugged in see if it’s any better. Unfortunately I don’t have another mouse at hand to try to be 100% sure
EDIT: Still stutters, to me it seems like no matter what I do it doesn’t make a difference.
Here’s a recording of me testing a (wireless) controller vs my wireless Logitech G502, timestamped. I’ve played around longer with the controller than the testing shows but it never stutters, and as soon as I change over to my mouse the stuttering begins. Periodically (roughly every 1 min in the meatgrinder, can be more often in actual game) there is hard stuttering for about 2-4 seconds then it goes back to normal. When I don’t move the mouse in these small timeframes I notice no stuttering.
Just to be mega sure after recording this video I’ve managed to get an old wired mouse and there was no stuttering at all. Not sure how much you needed more proof that it’s the polling rate causing this on certain mice, but I can also confirm that this is the issue.
Another thing I’ve noticed recently is that when I launch the game and the easy anti cheat panel comes up, the animation of the icon and text appearing is choppy as hell unless I move my cursor. When I constantly move my mouse in a circle it plays smoothly, or at least smoother. If I stop my cursor it instantly freezes and gets frame issues again.
After the newest patch the game starts up 50-50. I either get the mouse issues, or I don’t. Each seems to happen with the same frequency. I’m also going to assume that this issue is why my game crashes. There was this one time when my game started fine without the mouse stutters, BUT, within that session there was a huge time window of stuttering for like 20 seconds straight. Happened on the elim mission in the circular room when we redirect the train, but I doubt the place matters. So lately I’ve been getting good game sessions without mouse stutters, then I crash, and when I re-launch the stuttering is back like in the video previously posted. Small time windows, 2-3 stutters, between 30-40 seconds.
Irrelevant thing about that is my shadowplay picks that panel up instead of the game, so I have to turn instant replay off then on after the game has loaded into the main window.
I was having a similar issue, and it was driving me insane for a bit. I just got a new mouse and thought it was the new one acting up, though the old mouse was doing it too. I restarted my pc, verified cache, and looked around for what felt like ages. I did notice that changing the DPI on my mouse affected it enough that the fps drop wasn’t as severe. I lowered my DPI and up the mouse sensitivity (2.0) in-game and now it appears to be non-existent. Even lowering in-game mouse sensitivity helped too. So it may have something to do with the default in-game mouse sensitivity being at 1.0?
The problem is that sometimes the game loads in without this issue, and sometimes with the issue, and I have 0 idea what the trigger is. But I know that swapping to controller or a wired mouse gets rid of it even when the game launches with the issue. It’s a shame because compared to the other betas the game runs very smoothly, however at this point I am unsure if any of the stuttering is being caused by my mouse. Right now with the latest patch it seems like whenever I launch the game for the first time after turning my PC on it’s never with issues, then subsequent launches get worse.
I noticed this too but didn’t mention it. I suppose I should also say I’m crashing a lot, like three times in one mission often. I normally crash once per 2 missions but it gets worse over time I think.
I have 42 hours in the game, I wouldn’t be putting up with all these issues if the game wasn’t super fun!
I just want to add that the problem occurs for me even in menus and in the loading screen. The spinning skull/aquilla/hivecity stutters in exactly the same way. High polling rate makes it worse but even at 125 the issue makes the game unplayable. Getting real comfy with my controller but can’t wait to really play the game with M+K.
I think I might have come up with a temporary solution. It has worked for me 3/3 times just today, maybe it works maybe not but you can try it nontheless.
When you click play in the launcher turn off your wireless mouse. Let the game load in, and after the EAC window is done when you see the black screen (or whenever the intro cinematics are playing), turn the mouse back on. I might have been just lucky, but 3/3 games today had no stuttering and I did this for all of them.
Huh…I’ll try unplugging my mouse and see how it goes.
Edit: It almost seemed to work in the character selection menu/loading screen but then when I loaded into the lobby the problem persisted. Good try!
