Moving on from Vermintide 2

I think it’s time for Fatshark to get Vermintide 2 in a finalized state. Fix all the bugs, keep season events, but no more content. The game has lived to its fullest, and I think it’s time to let it go. I’d much rather see Fatshark use their resources on another game, or more people on the Darktide team.

There is still potential for stuff to be added for Vt2.

There is no sense closing it too early.

On launch they said they had plans for ten years which takes it to 2028, whether that plays out or not depends upon their internal timescale and cost effectiveness but I think that the announcement of VT3 will likely be the thing that stops VT2’s drive.

Yeah, I would like that too because of the possibility of offline playing and fully modding the game after the support ends.

Can you solo play with bots in darktide yet? If no then no thanks….Vermintide still needs support.

I regret buying the first DT DLC. I stopped playing it not long afterward. I’m back to VT2, with money to spend.

it’s time to remove the garbage load times

When Vermintide has its time to go, I hope it because another fantasy tide game is in the works or coming up shortly.

I have little interest in Darktide.

hmm you can add a lot of stuff. I dont think that the VT2 chapter is ready to be closed. And i dont really think that a VT3 would give us anything new, which you cant add in VT2. Only more pretty graphics, but to be honest. I dont care about graphics. The only thing VT3 would give us would be a sh*t ton of bugs and years to fix it like in any other fatshark game.

I mean, there are good things that could come from a Vt3, as VT2 is already somewhat tapped out for certain things, either from its engine (limiting the number of new enemies), from its lore (Bardin is already scrapping the bottom of the barrel weapon wise, there are still a couple that could be added, but those and some career specific weapons are very much the only things).

The thing, is though, on whether or not a VT3 should happen tbh, if it is a direct sequel (Like VT1 → VT2 is iirc 1 year), you’re still bound by the Warhammer fantasy and the End Time.

On the other hand, either doing unrelated tide, even if set in Warhammer Fantasy, would let them create new spins on the weapons, do new characters (Or slightly less ideal, having classes with personalities like DT, i like it there, but for fantasy I prefer characters), new tide factions…

Or making Vermintide 3 in AoS, hell could even keep the U5 as Soulbounds, enabling them to spread them around before reuniting them in a new quest.

Like I’ve said before. If a new fantasy tide game gives us custom characters for us to create we would have no end of careers and stuff to pick from. Such as different collages of magic which has been a requested feature several times, as I recall.

But if we’re still running with Ü5 then we might as well stick with VT2 and add more content to that game.

I don’t really think that it is that feasible, unless they plan on having 8 Magister classes being added during the uptime of the game.

A more sensible ways might be to instead avoid that problem wholly, by having an Elven Mage, as those are known to be able to use more than 1 Wind of Magic, then it would devolve into have 1+ weapon themed on each wind (Eg: Ghur getting an Amber Spear and a Corvus Staff; Ulgu Shroud Sword and Mindrazor…) while allowing the use of 2(+) wind being available to any character depending on the weapons you pick.

Then instead of trying to fill in the different Colleges, dlc casters would instead aim at more specific lore of Magics, like having a Kislevite Ice Witch, or a Hag, a Runepriest, Cathayan Alchemist or what ever they’re called…

Personally I would still prefer to have several different wizards for the different collages of magic as these can be diverse enough. Yes, you would likely get some overlap in terms of weapons but then again there’s already some overlap among the Ü5 so that’s not a problem for me.

A High Elven mage could of course work, as they are the ones to use High Magic. But personally I would like even more custom options rather than a single class that does a little of everything. I’d rather have classes that really goes into the deep of each wind and collage

In fact given the extensive material for Warhammer Fantasy I would be surprised if we wouldn’t easily be able to have more than a dozen magic users and keep them distinct in playstyle from each other.

Of course having having a single all-in-one wizard might make things easier to realize for the devs. But I am not a dev so I advocate what I would like to see and I trust the devs to be able to make their own decisions and know what would work or not, be doable or not, without me having to second guess my own ideas.

It most likely is quite feasible, but the question then is how many non-Caster would happen.

From “normal” factions that could work together

  • 8x Wind Magister
  • Rune Smith (Dwarf exclusive, per se)
  • High Magic (High Elf exclusive)
  • Fey Magic (Wood Elf Magic, Spellslinger)
  • 2x Cathayan Alchemist (Yin and Yang)
  • Hag (could have 4, but 3 of them somewhat are implied to just be Hag that use Wind Magic instead)
  • Ice Witch (Maybe 2, Ice and Tempest)

This amount to 15-16 Casters already, with there probably still need/want for martials…That start to cross into a more of a Hero Shooter cast than a tide maybe.

And that is with discarding the whole of Divine magic.

Having it be 3 casters could be a good Middle ground maybe:

  • Cathayan Alchemist (Yin): Access to Ghyran, Azyr, Aqshy and Hysh
  • Cathayan Alchemist (Yang): Access to Ghur, Chamon, Shyish and Ulgu
  • And a Kislevite:
    • Hag: Lore of Hag, Azyr, Shyish and Ghur (iirc)
    • Ice Witch: Lore of Ice + some Azyr stuff

That way there is still space for Martial characters to happen.

To be brutally honest Vermintide 2 has much more longevity than current Darktide.

I can see V2 even outliving Darktide depending on if Fatshark wants to add more content to V2.

It doesn’t really though.

The engine is already limiting, and DT still has avenues of content that Vt2 doesn’t.

Classes/characters, modes and new enemy factions are not gonna happen anymore in Vt2 iirc.
