Mortis Trials are way too easy and it really hurts the game mode

Having done 3 in damnation now I love the general concept, the rogue like buffs are cool and overall having random objectives and conditions that you don’t know about ahead of time are fun and give the mode a more chaotic atmosphere that I can see being very fun. The memories from the crew members are also fun and give a good(ish) incentive to play through them, though the fact they play out of order is annoying and means I will probably just listen to them on YouTube instead. (Who the hell likes reading a story by rolling dice to pick random chapters?)

That being said its so hilariously monotonously boring even on damnation. For the first 8 waves it feels like you just stand around doing nothing for the most part as enemies are drip fed into you. It feels like I could take a nap and wake up at wave 10. The last 2 waves are better but basically amount to a average auric maelstrom wave if that. In 2 of my games half the players were completely useless and spent half the game dead and I still didn’t even notice the difficulty.

I can handle playing normal damnation or lower if I am playing with friends, at least then when you kill all the enemies you can usually keep moving forward, so there is at least a sense of progression. Here you kill all the enemies then sit on your hands for 5 minutes until the game decides to be gracious enough to spawn a few more enemies for you. I had entire text conversations with people while waiting for enemies to decide to show up.

There needs to be three more difficulty levels like auric/auric maelstrom and most of the havoc modifiers should be on the table as well. Not saying it should be havoc 2.0 (definitely no ammo nerf), but the lack of any sort of challenge for this game mode makes it feel boring. I want to play it more but as is, it just feels like I will sit around doing nothing for half a hour to get to play the game with some sort of cool abilities and modifiers… For 5 minutes.

What a great idea! That way we can have 20+ different silo’d difficulties spread across 2 different quickplay queues, 3 different game modes etc.

Gee whizz, this community just wants to self destruct.

This mode should be a solo game mode… and I believe that it should not even had rewards…

Well its either that or you bump up the base difficulty. But really there are 10,000 players right now its not that big of a deal, you can match make for any game mode in under 5 minutes

Yeah its a really odd choice. I got chapter 2 and 6 and 4 of zola in that order lol.

hahaha, man, this is great fun. In a sort of “laughing at everyone on the sinking boat for being idiots” kinda way.

Are we applauding poor design now by saying “look, it kinda works”?

I’m not saying the matchmaking system couldn’t use a rework, I think that is fairly obvious. I’m just saying the mode is fun but too easy so that makes it boring. The most direct way to me would be to just add the auric/auric maelstrom difficulties to the mode. But bumping the base difficulty, so the damnation difficulty is equal to auric maelstrom would also be a option. I don’t really care what way they address it.

Fair dos, I guess if they implemented this mode into matchmaking properly I’d be complaining less.

Actually at that point it may as well just be a new mission incorporated into the mission board. But of course what we all wanted was option to play whatever mission we want, with any modifiers we want, and find a group for it easily.

That’s also because we’re supposed to stand still and listen to audio fragments literally no one is invested in.

try a higher difficulty

Well that as well, I don’t mind that as much since there is at least something to do during that. But for the waves with objectives like holding a position or hacking a thing. You end up with points where you have killed all the enemies and need to just wait for the objective to finish.

Another thing is that for the hold out waves where you just need to kill enemies, the wave doesn’t end until all the enemies are dead. They were at least smart enough to highlight the last few enemies but that doesn’t really help when its random snipers scattered in corners across the entire map. Usually its just 2 enemies like gunners or snipers who just didn’t path find into the fight and now you need to run over there and kill them or wait for them to actually come over.

Just feels like a lot of time wasting that pads out the length of each wave.

Damnation is the highest difficulty in this mode…?

hopefully well get an auric difficulty for mortis in the future

I wish maps and objectives were proc-generated.

Right now, it really brings no challenge or variety.

T1 should be removed. T2 should become T1, T3 should become T2, etc. Damnation will be T4 and then we can have a new difficulty giving enemies some more HP and faster attack speed.

See, I could see rng audio logs working if there was a place to listen to them separately. Could even be fun piecing narrative together like that.

Could even put more of those that spawn randomly throughout each map in non-guaranteed locations, like how they did with art scrolls in VT2.

Clearly, they disagree.

There is apparently - the Psykanium spawns spectral copies of Zolo and Morrow now ig?

No, wave 1 should be as intense as wave 8 in terms of enemy density and some select havoc modifiers could proc in later waves as players gradually become more powerful.

For example, Heinous Ritual. That deserves to have a chance of being present in later waves.
