Modification limit

Why is this a thing?
Would it not be better if we are able to freely mod our weapons.
It just seems like a artificial way to increase the grind.
I don`t mind rolling for weapons with good modifiers but to add the mod limit, it seems like overkill to me.
it is already annoying enough trying to get a decent weapon.

Ye im glad im not the only that thinks so.
Honestly everything about the combat and gameplay is near perfect for me, except pushing dogs and i don’t know if this is a latency problem or not for me but it feels like a 50/50 chance at the best of times.
I just hope that after the next patch they’ll address the crafting system.
And some more maps would be nice too :grinning:

Because someone at Fat Shark thought just-the odds of you finding the weapon you want, at high rating, with properly allocated weapon modifiers, was not preposterous enough on its own in a game with absolutely no agency on the quality of the items you get (which you can not reliably generate either). Multiplied by however many ‘variants’ they plan on including, eventually. This is the DESIGN VISION INTENTION of tanking a game with gameplay this good, though the servers are definitely doing their own damage there too.

Safe to say that guy doesn’t play the game ey :upside_down_face:
Has there been any feedback on this from the devs?
Because i cant find anything

the latest patch changed it from only being able to reroll 1 perk and 1 blessing, to being able to reroll 2 of whatever you wanted.

In the dev blog about that (not the patch notes, the dev blog prior) they said:

We are aware that the changes mentioned above do not give unrestricted freedom to all aspects of an item. To do so would have a big impact on item acquisition in Darktide, and we want to explore different paths further down the line.

So I’m pretty hopeful that with the class update that this is something they’re planning on doing a rework on as well. I have my little pet theory that XP was previously tied into weapon progression (gaining XP after 30, XP boost curios, the ways they worded the crafting blog prior to release). They’re revamping the class system to match what they said they wanted to do, so I don’t see why we can’t expect to see the same thing with crafting. Albeit…in a while.

This :point_up_2:
They know the problem, but there is no cut and dry solution ready to be pushed yet. And that spontaneously removing it can cause more harm than good.

In our current system, I think allowing us to modify weapons 3 times would significantly reduce the error rate of pulling the slot machine, but that’s just a bandage for long-term design.

I have 900 hours and I still don’t have a lot of weapons that are well-rolled…

Plenty are serviceable, sure, but some weapons need ‘god-rolls’ to function well in Damnation in contrast to some other weapons that just dominate the current game balance. The Columnus Infantry Autogun is a good example; the Agripinaa is actually very serviceable but the Columnus needs every single slot to perform.

Just hoping Patch #14 is a weapon/blessing rebalance.

What’s the Columnus infantry meta anyway? I just run one with dum dum and try to keep vet ult up all game, like a pseudo SMG that needs weak point hits. I think its probably a lot better than any Graia I’ve used.

Welcome 402.

I expected a higher number. I guess the drafting pool is almost empty.

You also have to consider that most people are more likely to voice their disagreement, than their agreement.
And the generally agreed upon state of the current crafting system seems to be “pretty bad”.

You misunderstand.

We breached 400 quite some time ago. We might be in need of new recruitment posters or something

Well then…
Better fire up the printers!
The crafting system is not gonna fix itself!

I mean that`s 1/5 of the current player base as the average player count hovers around 2000.
and then there is a good amount of people who probably don’t bother posting
Honestly id be happy at this point if they gave us 3 Mod slots
That way you only need one good stat on your weapon which might still take a really long time if you’re unlucky and don’t get a tier 4 perk :upside_down_face:

I have honestly been lax so I could have missed things. But this is only people on the forums. I am sure you have lots of lurkers, people who don’t bother making fatshark forum accounts, etc. Really just 402 out of forum accounts for darktide would be the interesting metric.

Although to be fair, whether they all still dislike it despite the change isn’t confirmed, although I would imagine most are.

I have 4 buddies (completely different types of gamers) that i kinda regularly play with.
All 4 of them dislike the current crafting system, but neither of them voice their opinions publicly.
One of them did not really care about crafting at all, until he completely stopped playing the veteran class, because he could not get his hands on the power cycler blessing.

I am sure there are a lot of others.

I convinced… (Let me count) 7 people to buy this game. One of them my brother who convinced another group. All of them have stopped entirely or just gone back to VT2. Crafting was a major reason for all of them (but not the only reason).

It just baffles my mind that Devs take this approach to the question, how do we keep our player-base engaged for as long as possible. Oh yes lets make the grind as hard and tedious as we can :unamused:.
No we don’t wanna keep farming on malice or heresy for months just to get some decent weapons to be viable for damnation.
Hell i spent 450 k yesterday on combat knives just to get 2 DECENT ones 377 cp
and then i still got unlucky with just tier 3 blessings.
