Modded server

Could one of the devs/community managers let us know if there are any plans for a modded server to be added to the game? It was in Vermintide 2 and it worked very well and gave players a lot of control over their game experience.

different server system, no chance theyā€™re gonna build two ways to run games and try to keep them both running, thatā€™s how the BIG bugs happen.

he exclaimed, right after Versus released in VT2, which has a modded realm to begin with.

I think Jakal is right.

VT2 uses a p2p hosting system. A player effectively hosts the ā€˜serverā€™ for a game.
DT uses AWS gaming instances as servers. I donā€™t think it makes sense for these to be customised by players.

If they do decide to reverse that and then put DT on to a P2P system ā€¦ well, I assume thatā€™ll be a signal of the end of DT as a developed game and it being put out to pasture.

the alternative is them never adding p2p and, when theyā€™re done with the game, they shut it down and we cant play it any more

Out of curiosity, what does that entail? Iā€™m assuming more catastrophic than anything in-game presently, but I donā€™t have much of a frame of reference.

VT2 uses dedicated servers if doing quickplay on versusā€¦
you can also do custom versus lobbies which uses P2P instead.

ops! a game using dedicated servers + p2p hosting system. why not using both like that?
L4D2 uses dedicated servers (valve servers), offline mode and P2P hosting system.

dedicated servers good
but P2P connection have their own advantage too
being able to play the game hosting your game so that you can play with friends or people near to your region / country (sadly for some people have issues of lag, if playing on dedicated servers because far away from their region) more possibilities with mods due to the p2p system, and if one day the game would happen to shut down, it should be still playable because of p2p system. vt1 still playable because thanks of that, the items and progress i believe still saved on the Fatshark servers on the backend but still.

clearly you dont have to customise a server to allow mods. as mods work now without it.
it would be no effort at all to simply have a toggle for mods allowed or not it wouldnt require seperate builds. this is how v2 does handle it.

frankly i wish FS would split the mods off into their own realm

I understood the OP to be asking to mod the servers; e.g. changing damage levels of weapons etc. which iirc could be done in VT2 to create ā€œcustom balanceā€ servers. That, rather than a question say allowing client side mods as we have now.

If Iā€™ve misunderstood OP, then apologies.

usually network errors (aside from ones that just take the whole network down) mean either 1: getting kicked for any number of backend mismatch issues (not the term but i lazy) when the network gets something slightly wonky back from a client and throws the whole thing out 2: the ever popular ā€œeternal loadingā€ where the matchmaking system takes a room aside and then loses track of it entirely until everyone leaves.

both of these suck massively and are common when you have to force any sort of connection system using slightly different hosting clients together. neither is easy to diagnose a solution because they happen in the wacky part of coding where you canā€™t really see things as theyā€™re going on outside of a controlled test which defeats the purpose of testing.

Well Versus uses dedicated servers. They effectively have built two ways to run games. So already there is precedent.
Then thereā€™s the fact that the only real difference is that on dedis, everyone is a client, and on p2p, one person is the host. If you already have self hosted sessions (and you do, the solo mod uses them) and you already have connections to the host (and you do, on real play players connect as clients) I dont get why itā€™s supposedly not possible.

Iā€™m not gonna lie dude, I have no idea why you lay out your ā€œtechnical knowledgeā€ like this despite being clearly entirely clueless. This reads like an AI generated take on a topic the AI knows nothing about so it just makes stuff up.

ainā€™t nobody hereā€™s gonna know what iā€™m talking about either way and i ainā€™t gonna sober up for these forums. they asked what would go wrong and i told them what theyā€™d see going wrong as an end user.

Ye it would probably all go wrong on the modded server side of things if there will ever be such a thing. But ay, Iā€™m sure those players would welcome the jank. Win/Win
