I just upgraded to windows11 24H2 (fresh install) and now the taskbar and other windows (browser, other apps) flashe sometimes during game play. In that case left click does not work.
it seems it causes the game to lose focus so the next left click does not register (or it registers to get focks back).
This results in me not shootting or being able to select items. the next click will register… so i find myself doing double clicks for everything.
this happens during all the game run: menus or gameplay… even settings menus.
If i click fast enough i can pretty consistently bring up an app window from the background to the foreground so so it will appear infront of the game (e.g. firefox browser). The mouse is still in “game mode” andwill stay locked in the middle of the screen,
anyone seen this or know a fix?
Steps to Reproduce (Required):
install windows 24H2 fresh, nvidia drivers, apps and install game. play?
Hm, it sounds like something is competiting for focus. Do you have any gaming overlays or programs that may be hooking in and causing an issue? If so, please try disabling these.
It could be worth performing a ‘Selective Startup’ and disabling your background applications to see if one is the culprit:
Press the Windows key
Type ‘msconfig’ and select ‘System Configuration’
On the ‘General’ tab, select ‘Selective Startup’
Deselect ‘Load startup Items’
Reboot your PC
If the issue doesn’t persist after doing, try re-introducing your programs one-by-one and hopefully you’ll find which is causing an issue.
so… what are my options? as you can see in the video it happend at every single left click. so if i click fast enough it brings whatever app is behind up. since the game is a slasher where you click like a madman it makes it pretty unplayable
i am just not sure if his is due to the windows update or the game update… if its the first: the new windows update just came out and im sure other people are going to install it… anyway the problem is there.
Just give us back the OPTION of using full screen…
Before the change I had very few issues other than the occasional input lag.
Now we have WORSE input lag, frame timing issues, frame rate issues, we can;t use overlays anymore and the game looks terrible with low enough settings to get back to an acceptably high enough frame rate to be able to lock it below 1% lows to make it (almost) playable.
The BFE move was a terrible idea.
I saw somewhere it was to “fix edge cases” of problems with full screen…
why cause everyone else issues just for people who don’t know how to switch between FSE and BW?
It’s made the game unplayable for 3/6 of my group, so now none of us are playing.
Edit to add; Waiting for Microsoft to fix windows is a fools errand. 30,000 people demanded they let us move the taskbar again in Windows 11, no response.
Even worse would be Windows update still force installing broken drivers for Intel NICs since Win10 released, I had to keep windows update permanently off on one of my PCs because Win update wouldforever try to install the wrong drivers, Intel knows about this and has provided a work around by using regedit to edit the driver version to the one Windows wants, but Microsoft still to this day pushes the wrong drivers that break the NIC without that change.
Microsoft also pushed Steelseries software that breaks Steelseries GameDACs since 22h2, they have been aware of this and still haven’t fixed it - even now in win11 they still do it.
And heaven forbid you try to update to Win10 22h2 from a previous version with the correct drivers, it will brick the PC;
I haven’t done the upgrade yet due to all the issues I keep hearing about but an easy first fix I always try is to disable fullscreen optimizations for a game .exe and override the scaling
If 24H2 changed anything with fullscreen apps this may or may not help. I’ve had to change this in the past to get VRR to work when that was still new-ish so it’s not nonsense but whether or not it’ll help is hard to say.
Also see if Game Bar is running in task manager. We can’t turn it off the game bar overlay in settings anymore like in Win 10 so if that was updated and broke something you’ll have to end task every time.
I think all code related to exclusive fullscreen has been removed. Exclusive fullscreen causing a lot of issues and I’m pretty sure AMD, Nvidia and Microsoft wants you to stop using it. I know atleast AMD’s recommendation is to stop using it when i’ve been contact with them.
I hovwever was not the one removing to code or been in the decision even if I have wanted to remove it for years since it adds tons of issues when it comes to alt+tab. Which can cause deadlocks.
Also i can update that the problem arises in Left For Dead… the only other game installed now… but in Darktide is much more massive.
It sounds then like a microsoft bug, we are on a fixed update on our work pc’s so i don’t think we are on this version yet. But I can check with my coworker that is on a Win11 machine. But in this case we can’t really do anything about it unless there is a known fix.
