Markus de Mandelot - A Blog Post by Lohner

I’m no deep lore nerd but I really like this explanation (and how it was delivered). Would love a brief (no books, think V1 Ram the Manparts) grail quest mission in game that fleshed this all out a bit but I know that’s asking a bit much and would inflate the cost of the career too much. As a casual peruser of the lore this post really captures the imagination.

‘Grail Knight’ ain’t just a rank. It’s a holy station, earned in battle with some ghastly monstrosity, or a whole mess of ‘em. Supposedly the Lady of the Lake – assuming she’s real, I ain’t exactly a believer – sends visions to worthy candidates, guiding them on a righteous path of carnage. If they survive, she lets ‘em sup from the grail and blesses them with holy strength.

I would love it if there was a mini quest introduced, including FK heeding the call to follow the path of the Grail Knight. Being available right after purchase kinda kill the vibe I got from reading the lines above.

? No, they didn’t. In the first three maps, you only located the position of the runes and Olesya copied them (as she was watching you the whole time). So, they didn’t bring back something physical from the iIllusion.
If by any chance you mean Izrakaz from Fortunes of War. THAT was NOT an illusion. So here again, they did not bring back real objects from an Illusion.

Also, Olesya didn’t conveniently summon whole cities on her own. She had a (second-rate) scroll from Lohner which helped her. There are obviously stretches like I don’t know how you create an Illusion of something which neither the caster nor the actors have ever seen. It would mean that the scroll or the spell can somehow extract informations from certain points in time.
You could also ask where Lohner gets all his stuff and information from. But somehow everyone seems to be okay with: “Because he is Lohner.”

You could also argue that Ubersreik has been destroyed in Vermintide 1 although this could be explained by the Izrakaz itself. The stone brings luck and most likely served as a kinda protection ward for the marketplace. And maybe more of the city is still intact.
Of course, if more of the city is intact why not go there in person directly but use an illusion? Well, we dont know which part of the city and surrounding is still intact (surroundings should actually be fine). Above all, Lohner and Olesya probably wanted to avoid drawing attention to the treasure in Ubersreik by going there in reality.
Didnt work out, right? I mean in Fortunes of War the enemy has caught wind of the treasure. This can also be explained. Olesya wanted the spell to cover the time from Vermintide 1. So only Skaven should have been there. Therefore, she complains repeatedly that this is harder than before and Chaos should not be there. Of course, main reason is gameplay. But I mean to remember that she spoke about a second party influence. Some kind of Chaos spellcaster which mingled with the illusion, making it harder, while at the same time getting informations about the runes and the treasure. Since we have never received a timeline (despite asking several times) I can not say if that was Halescourge or Nurgloth or someone still not shown.

Sidenote: If part of the cities are still Standing, FS could also send us back to Ubersreik one more time to collect whatever Christoph Engel has sealed anyway in the Trials of the Foolhardy.

Mmm, you are right, actually. I’ve been under the impression that that was an illusion too (in part becuse the legend and cata frames refer to Oleysa ramping up the difficulty of the illusion out of spite) but the bridge is a real one that time. Nice, so that makes sense (and explain the insane amount of enemies you kill there, glad to know those kills are “canon”).

As for Trials of the Foolhardy I dunno how much canon it is, but anyway, he needed those ingredients for a ritual. But, there’s still the matter of what happened to Drachenfel’s chalice. It’s the only artifact you don’t see later in the game (the cursed rune was stolen and recovered again in river reik, the skull and the flasks are in Oleysa’s possession in waylay). So there might be room for a return there, it would be a bit late for it though, wouldn’t it. And considering the curse of Drachenfel’s challenges, FS seems to consider the artifacts little more than easter eggs at this time (or why would we find an other skull and flask?)

It’s a little odd, I admit it, expecially because there was someone looking like Engels living in the city for a long time. But, gray magic, you know? Engels’ lines in the wizard’s tower certainly fit Oleysa “Ah, finally! What took you so long?” “Are you ready? Ah, I’m starting anyway. Stay alive. Somehow” “Shoo, shoo, time to go”.
Plus, we now know Oleysa is a grey wizard herself, and that many of the artifacts we gathered for “our gray wizard” are in Oleysa’s possession. It’s never openly admitted, but the cues are pretty compelling.
Not living in the Tower makes sense. The inn is at least as protected, and as we have seen, the tower has been a target long before the inn. Plus, they wouldn’t want to reveal their secrets so easily.

This discussion is becoming more interesting to me. I asked the current writer of FS during beastmen lore stream about Christoph Engel’s fate: my question was answered as follows “Your guess is as good as mine”. I like this theory about Olesya likewise the one that Lohner and Engel were never seen in one room but I don’t think this is the case.

Yo, can the devs give Saltzpyre new voice lines based on the lore complaints about Kruber being a Grail Knight?

If anyone would have a problem with a team member falling out of Sigmar worship it’s him, 110,000%

“Kruber! You’re not Bretonnian! Cease your heretical worship of the Lady at once! SIGMAR is who guides you!”

Seriously, he just lost Valiant Krubah! to a hussy in a pond. Saltzpyre has to be a little bit emotional about that.

Edit: I don’t even mean to come off as making fun of anyone who is complaining, either, I just found myself starting to read them in Saltzpyre’s voice and it just fits.

Well this is great news it’s been a while since we had some change in the content. Part of Me hopes there’s going to be a new monster I don’t know a dragon maybe a frog brilliant if there is a new weapon like a Lance although I’m not sure kruber riding around on a broom clapping coconuts will help gameplay in anyway but will certainly be funny. Be great to think about the turnaround of these classes being a little bit quicker than the 8 months that it takes to make maps

I understand DKP mechanics and the RNG for something to drop. I was not referring to that. At least in the instance of things dropping back in the day when 40 man raids were a thing, there was still a way to get Best in Slot because there was a piece of loot that could drop and you had the luck of the draw in obtaining it. What I was referring to and why a lot of people left, was things like titanforging, where something would drop and the stats would be random but on top of that, also had the chance of upgrading to a higher ilvl which gave more stats. So you could attempt to get a specific loot but whether or not it would have a chance to roll for even higher stats made it so that best in slot gear was not possible. There was no end. There currently is no end. At least in vanilla and for a couple expansions after, you knew what the best loot was for your class and it was a matter of if it would drop or not. Now its, "there is loot out there that are really good for your class but its not only about dealing with its chance of dropping but also a chance on top of that to get the exact rolls or exact upgrades (like having a gem socket, ilvl, or other stats). A majority of people did leave because they’d put countless hours into the game getting a single piece of loot and then never end up getting it, so there was no reward for all the hard work they put into it whether it was raiding, mythic+ or even PVP.

Anyways, I agree, lets see what the stream says. It’ll be up in 2 minutes. Then after, we can duke it out based on the results. Lets hope it’s not hot garbage and just a FK reskin.

‘Myledon smiled as he summoned the undead back to unlife, creating a wall of bone between him and the Grail Knight, his sharpened teeth slicked with blood as he drew a sacrificial knife. Louen slashed open his shield straps with his glowing blade, and he brought the steel symbol of Couronne curving round in a great arc, putting all his newfound strength into one great throw. The pointed end of the shield smashed through ribcage and armour alike in a spray of bone and dust, neither spine nor skull slowing its passage. Louen’s aim was true, the shield slammed into Myldeon’s neck, decapitating him in a spray of gore before clattering to the ground.[6]’

Brettonian Knights do not approve of ranged weapons.

This does not mean they won’t ‘Captain America’ a shield through your body, with no other option. Bretts are also famed rules-lawyers. They are supposed to not use guns and gunpowder, either, while they stand upon Brettonian ground.

So, instead they put all of it on ships, and on the sea, well, the sea doesn’t count as ‘Brettonian Ground’, does it?

Which is kinda funny seeing how their real-life prototypes had a very rich and successful history of firearm development.

Well. Just watched the live stream. Plans for other subclasses on every character over time is exciting.

As far as GK. Longsword, longsword + shield, melee kill on F and a strange passive buff system that rewards random tasks. Wonder how “grimoire regenerates health” will work in a weave.

Hoping the talents are something special because its a bit underwhelming right now. I really wonder what weapons they might add for this subclass in the future. Blessed Sword potentially?

Cool trailer, though “drink” repeatedly sounded a little dark for being a blessing. They were pretty mute on weaves and beastmen questions. Meh.

@Fatshark_Hedge are the new directional animation sets for ‘view weapon’ on all weapons or only on Kruber’s new ones?

Hahaha, we were all so engrossed with ‘rainy righteous stand’ that I think nobody even commented that on chat!

New ones for now, but we love what they did and I believe they want to add it to all the weapons

They look really gorgeous, hope it won’t take too long!

I’m always the one looking at details…

that lady is just another form of corruption… the next step will be a slaanesh saltz  (or an ulrich one, wonder which the worse  )
imho I would have preferred a completely new char with only this career. Something like that would have open to the pssibility to add outsider chars (+ map/weapons) without messing up the storyline. But, same as in the past, in fatshark people have their own ideas and at the end of the day, we kept and will keep buying those ideas.

No one forces you to do so, if you are unhappy with what they did, just don’t buy it, it’s the easiest and most effective way to express your displeasure.

thank you for the wise words, as soon as cyberpunk will be out and playable I’m going to follow the advice
Until then, being here since day one, and a paying one, I guess I’ll keep pointing what I think it’s not correct/don’t like. Please bear with me.
