Yes ! I love the flat +24% damage bonus, but I only ever use Warp Charges with the fire staff because it’s the only one that allows me to build these charges back up quickly enough. Otherwise I just end up not using my ability very often.
If this ability were to gain anymore damage, it should also get an charge system. Sure let it 1 shot most things but make dam sure its not spammable.
Basically this. IMO it should have a bit more damage to reach certain breakpoints (not necessarily one-shotting Crushers, but 2-shot at least) and have a faster cast, but then be limited by charges. This limits spammability while allowing it to be the best option for killing high-value targets when it’s available. This could even be an ability modifier, allowing for people to use a more spammable version if they want to.
And I know what you might be thinking, “doesn’t Empowered Psionics basically do this?” and yes, sort of, but the other two Blitzes don’t need that Keystone to feel right and it’s more of a band-aid solution than a proper one.
The ability just doesn’t really stand out on its own, as it isn’t worth using most of the time, and even worse, its dull to use.
Quick comparison,
Brain Rupture:
- Has OK damage that is locked behind a long cast, a LOT of things out-dps it
- Staggers targets, but also only after a long cast
- Single-target
- Slows you down to a halt while using it (Mind in Motion would help but it is MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE for some godforsaken reason)
- Needs you to stop using all of your other weapons for a fairly lengthy time, fairly slow “weaving”
- Needs Empowered Psionics to really feel worthwhile
- Can be pre-charged, but holding it generates a lot peril
Compare this to Assail:
- Shards are quick to throw and allow quick switching between Assail and weapons. Useful for weaving in shard throws in melee for auxiliary damage and crowd control, for example
- Shards autoaim and seek targets autonomously, but can also be aimed more deliberately (throw shards over the heads of bulwarks, then look down and the shards will hit them in the back of the head)
- A single shard can take out multiple enemies or at least stagger them, let alone multiple shards going around
- If the intended target is killed, only one shard of 10 is “lost”, but it can still seek other targets
- Casting Assail doesn’t slow you down much at all
- Assail shards stagger targets as soon as they hit
- Very good without Psionics, but gets a nice boost out of it
It’s just ridiculous not only how Assail is more effective than Brain Rupture, but how much more FUN it is.
This, entirely this. I’ll concede my ‘solution’ is just what I think would be nice, but this is the main crux of any of my ‘issues’ with brain burst. It’s ‘weaving’ just doesn’t ever feel good and ever have an option of feeling good without multiple bandaid fixes and procing said bandaid fixes first. Just wanting it to compare to how good assail feels in ‘high combo weaving’ engagements. Even Smite often feels better in that it will immediately do something for you if you swap to it verses burst that just, doesn’t.
I know it doesn’t need to, but as you say, just hitting breakpoints like a double tap crusher but being on a charge system and being a bit snappier in casting would go a long way to make it at least compare, go like ‘ahh this is the armor piercing option that needs to take a moment to compensate’ verses just ‘ahh, this…just feels bad’.
