Hi, everyone! I’m making this Post today to HUMBLY request that Fatshark do a Rework for the mediocre (at best) Moveset on the Manling (Kruber & Saltzpyre) Greatswords. I’ll also be providing my SUGGESTED specifications on such a matter.
The Mk X Relic Blade’s Moveset in Darktide, to me, is superior to that of the Manling Greatswords in Vermintide. The Manling Greatswords in Vermintide are… sad. You can’t even thrust with them. They deserve a better Moveset and the Mk X Relic Blade is the perfect candidate for such an inspiration.
I had this to say at one point on the Darktide Forums:
Moveset Comparison
Mk X Relic Blade
Light Attack Chain: (Sweep, Sweep, Thrust)
Heavy Attack Chain: (Overhead, Overhead, Sweep, Sweep)
I actually love the greatswords where they are. Simple moveset but very versatile in practice, and they feel awesome to use (in my opinion obviously). They feel like great powerful swords with some heft to them. I feel like including a stab attack takes away from that, hence why it’s generally the 1h swords that have them. Yes, Elf greatsword has a stab, but it takes time to draw back and balance it on one arm (maintaining the big/heavy weapon feel).
Well. For overheads there is an exe sword. Greatsword is for crowd (and stamina) control with pushing+overheads. It actually damages well if you hit the head. It’s just straight up useless to make a second faster exe with thrust. Btw, whc has amazing talent synergy for greatsword: crit after parry. Leave gs be, please. Not everything should be fast and an all rounder. Let me have my heavy melee.
They’re treating Greatswords like they’re Executioner Swords and that’s the problem. Why bring a Greatsword to a fight when you’ll just end up wielding it like an Executioner Sword anyway? Like, the main advantage you’d get from a Greatsword over an Executioner Sword is its ability to Thrust/Stab. What you’re defending is actual Oblivion/Skyrim Combat in a series that is otherwise known for having in-depth Melee Combat.
The Human Greatswords’ Light Attack Chain is IDENTICAL to their Heavy Attack Chain with no difference except the latter being slower and stronger than the former. This Moveset is a travesty and an insult to Greatswords and anyone who knows anything about them, while DT Mk X Relic Blades’ Moveset is an accurate portrayal of a Greatsword’s versatility that simultaneously captures the cool fantasy of wielding one.
When did I ever state that it needed to be faster than the Executioner Sword? People really ought to stop putting words in others’ mouths, it’s quite rude and puts their lack of reading comprehension on display. The Greatswords can have a better Moveset AND be a hefty Weapon to wield. Those two things aren’t mutually exclusive.
I’d say the melee weapon balance is far better in VT2, but some of the new swing patterns and dynamic rotations in these new swords surpasses. Whoever designed new DT swords did an excellent job and back filling into VT2 weapons especially the lack luster weapons like manling Great Sword would be amazing. (weapons specials for all too IMO)
For example, your initial videos are incorrect the MK X Heavy attack chain if continued will always sweep once it hits that part of the chain.
Could do similar chain for MGS with 1 charged stab (similar to Kerrillian GS) followed by perpetual sweeps block cancelling will let you stab for the priority armor shots.
Could bypass with a light attack into charge forever sweep again.
Could modify light chain as well to sweep sweep stab, charging after a stab could lead to stab charge attack and vice versa light attack after charged stab into light stab.
*These are just the simplest example of modifying the attack patterns to give MGS more versatility without harming its current patterns.
If you haven’t played DT yet they also include a weapon special to every melee which is amazing, as well as a sprint light & charge attack with unique patterns similar to a push attacks unique.
Not incorrect, just something that I failed to mention and this is also the case for Sienna’s 2-Handed Mace in VT2. The Mk X Relic Blade’s Heavy Attack Chain is still Overhead, Overhead, Sweep, Sweep but the Sweep, Sweep part continues until you reset the Attack Chain by either swapping your Weapons, Block Cancelling or not Attacking with the Weapon for a few seconds.
But you’re right to mention it. That’s ANOTHER part of why they’re so good, because you can utilise Block Cancelling to choose whether or not you want to cleave the hordes or smite something specific with your Heavies in a pinch. It’s VERSATILE and you have CONTROL over how you use it, and that’s how a Greatsword should feel.
Really only miss sprint from DT in VT2 and if they actually reworked some weapon rotations would come back just to remaster the fun swing patterns as they cleave through rats. .. if they added weapon specials… just so much gravy
… guess reworks would be too much to ask for if they can’t release new weapons either
"About the upcoming Weapon Pack
If you’ve been following our dev blogs and announcements, you’ve likely seen that we’ve been working on a new weapon pack, and we’ve even teased a prototype.
While we initially hoped to release it this year, we regret to inform you that it won’t be coming out this year. At this point, we don’t have more details to share."
At the moment GS is in a good spot you can do everything with it. It has enough cleave to kill an entire SV Patrol true solo on cata, just keep swinging.
