I’ve been running a melee duelling sword Scrier’s Gaze Psyker lately.
I noticed I wasn’t using the riposte too much so made a conscious effort to use it more.
I was rewarded with overloading and popping my own head during boss fights because I wanted to parry them for style points.
At first I thought it was some bugged interaction caused by Kinetic Deflection but turns out Psyker’s generate 4% Peril and deal more damage on DS parry.
Imho, this mechanic should never kill you, just like Kinetic Deflection. It should just not activate at all instead of killing you at critical Peril. My understanding is that this is a bonus mechanic for Psykers because the weapon was unique to them at some point. In practice, it feels much more like a random curse than a bonus.
In the thick of the action, playing melee only, with scrier’s running in parallel it just randomly kills you for having tried to score style points.
use the modifier node that prevents perils of the warp then, like this is so non issue. and if you’re laming with dueling sword on psyker instead of either of their force swords you’re already without style. it cannot be rehabilitated into the dueling sword.
my dude ‘I want to do this without the nodes that enable it’ is about as far down the list of changes I’d like to see. Devil’s Claw has the no cost parry. And yeah at 500 hours over periling from this is a skill issue, sorry but its only ever triggered for a counter at 97 peril or above. I vote that the DS is indeed strong enough to force you to run this one node if you want to main the counter. It already dumpsters everything without it.
As you said, no peril cost parry weapons exist. The reason DS has it, was obviously meant as a Psyker bonus since it used to be a class unique weapon.
This is definitely a design oversight.
I play a diverse range of Psyker builds (caster and melee), never picked Crystalline Will on any of them and can’t remember the last time I offed myself on actual Peril generating builds.
Out of nowhere I pop my head to the most obscure mechanism on a non peril build (except scrier’s), 2-3 times in the last two days.
I was about to report it as a bug when I found out it wasn’t in a reddit post comment.
I will simply go back to my greatsword or just dodging and poking heads when playing DS instead of waiting for enemies to attack for style. It was just so baffling that I wanted to leave a feedback.
I’m just sorry that I had to aggro and then feed your Tanner Lindberg sounding face, lurking in the forums to pounce on the first guy mentioning DS with uncalled for mentions of being unskilled or lame.
Get another personality trait than being a Darktide elite.
I don’t watch anyone play this game or talk about it, but yeah it does suck that this weapon was put on every class. But psyker does get a uniquely strong parry that uses peril, and it shouldn’t get a Smite bypass because people make me feel bad for pointing out that overloading in this way is so niche/avoidable even using scriers gaze and also has a bypass in the game already. I shouldn’t have to use it because that would be elitist?
Absolutely agree that mech is kinda uncalled for. The bonus to damage is not really significant enough to even exist.
The big problem, in which I assume you ran into, is running no perill reduction but kinetic reflection. You will pop after around three to four parries.
I was also baffled when I tested that, the worst thing is there is no visual indicator. Have a look at the las pistol push on psyker: It costs 10 peril but has the force push animation which clearly tells you “boy you do magic right now”. All would be well if the psyker duelling sword animation would do some warp stuff.
its significantly stronger, the Mk5 parry is 550 base power but 700 on psyker, while the regular parry is somewhere around 500 power but 650 on Psyker.
