Make More Events Like Convocation (Cataclysm)

Eh dw about the quality, well and good enough to see what goes on, and item RNG is normal enough.

Well first let me state, your melee is really dang good, and the reaction to the packmaster spawn was also very clean. Using the Handmaiden critbuild to circumvent the biggest issue´s with the dual blades is also an excellent plan.

But, you got dang lucky with that first assassin, and the third one too, and honestly it seems really strange to me that only 3 of them spawned and only 2 packmasters. My memory of that place has at least 2 of each spawning at the same time, same as when running around outside. And the gasrats seem to spawn like that?

Plus, them spawning before the warrior wave? I always get mine poping out right after the warriors .-.

But it is sufficient to prove the point that it´s doable at any rate, i guess my own worst mistakes there are spending too long trying to salvage my own teams falling apart or getting caught by the specials spawning…i am really bad at managing more than 1 runner at the same time T_T

To be fair, only a career with a dash can make that particular pathing work, another would have to use the longer WHC one but if they lack the damage then that wont work. That or if their mobility is too much lower.

And if the mob clearing speed of a QP team isnt fast enough then enemies will be all over and the looping plan is extremely liable to encounter a ton of issue´s, that´s my experience with it anyway having tried something similar with poor results. That´s why i told him that playing solo did play into his favor there too x)

Additionally He got really lucky while playing Handmaiden too, i counted several moments where he could have died or lost most of his health if any of the stormvermin had delivered a charge. Especially while he was shooting.

Heck, just more than 1 clanrat attacking at the same time would also have been really bad…But he did make his case that it is possible to play the event out. I still feel like its silly difficult and above whats reasonable for cata though.

… that’s not luck lol. Getting hit or not isn’t just random in this game. It’s just solid mechanics. IDK what to tell you at this point man. If I were you I’d just take the videos as a tool for learning how to do the event properly. You can do what you want at this point.

Getting hit is random though? Stormvermin can randomly pause in the middle of a fight and just stand there or somehow stand at attention and start waving an arm while the other hold the halberd upright.

Similarly normal mobs dont always attack instantly or using the same attacks, looking at the timespawn around the first hookrat died and he barely survived the first assassin he could have taken multiple hits but going by the sound of the parry only one landed. Despite him not actually dodging there.

But for instance when he started shooting a blightstomer, had any of the stormvermin there not just goofed off but instead gone for a charge then he´d failed right then and there. And dont tell me its based on the slot system because the charge bypasses that.

pretty hard to tell based on the quality of the vid but nothing in there looks exceptionally lucky outside that first assassin pounce

They wouldn’t go “for a charge” because he was standing still and not running away from the SV. If you’re standing still you won’t trigger running attacks. And elites do remove infantry mobs from slots, for sure. However, the slot system is why he didn’t get hit my more clan rats. Most players who play at a high level have a feel for how much time they have to shoot/aim at a special. The reason for the gap is due to the slotting system. If you’re standing still and not triggering running attacks, the infantry mobs will attempt to fill slots and then attack. The primary slot is already filled that’s why he gets hit by a singular clan rat, but has enough time to avoid any further damage.

The time around 50 sec was a lot of luck all in on itself, not only did the assassin miss but somehow only 2 of the surrounding normal mobs attacked and only one of them actually hit. And for a fair bit after that there are a lot of cases where had enemies been using charging attacks when he dashed then he´d taken a lot more chip damage.

Additionally the timing&positions of the second and third assassin spawns are also extremely fortunate, however the second packmaster was handled very cleanly just as the first.

But then at 4.08, he stops for a second or two, with enemies around, to shoot a stormer and somehow only one of the enemies actually attack? Had it been two, depending on attacks used, then he´d be dead.

So all in all, metric ton of luck on the first assassin and a fair lot on the surrounding attacks there, a fair bit of luck with no charge attacks hitting during the dashes later (common since dash does not cancel active attacks) and another large amount on the next assassin spawns.

Followed by another large case with the stormer shooting…any one of these coulda been the end.

I feel like we’re playing very different games lol

I am almost 100% sure that is not how it works, i have had cases where i am standing still as waystalker and enemies initiate charging/chasing attacks.

And, there is no point on the edge of that circle where only 1 clanrat fits, so only one hitting him there IS lucky. Just as how only one hit him during the first assassin mess also was very lucky.

I play squishy careers a lot, i have to be extremely paranoid about damage or i get vaporized by slaverats T_T

It’s really interesting to read this type of discussion. I’m glad my video could further it.

I will say that I was panicking with that first Assassin (you can tell because the camera is shaking more than usual) but I understood what I could get away with. I knew ahead of time that Assassins coming from directions that would surprise me would be a problem for me, so I took Heart of Oak so I could take more risks when dealing with them, like pursuing the Assassin through gas, and later on taking a shot at the Warpfire Thrower that results in me getting hit. I also knew that with my mobility I could avoid extended damage for the most part (making Barkskin not so useful) but would have issues with attrition (I get pretty low on thp in my run as WHC at that event) so I took Boon of Shallya. Doing the same things as WHC would be very dangerous and risky.

I didn’t just plan for the event. I planned for my own mistakes. It wasn’t really luck, and even if it was, a skilled enough player would have had plenty of time to push that Assassin. There’s usually another counter-play to most threats after the positioning aspect.

It would be interesting to get the perspective of another player that’s true soloed the final. Shame there isn’t a true solo tournament to find these players. With the exception of the well-known ones, you have to do some deep searching through YouTube pages and Twitch channels.

That’s why I took Heart of Oak. I don’t feel comfortable avoiding damage while sniping specials with the Longbow (not sure how anyone does tbh, those that do are above my level of skill with special sniping) at least not since the dodge range talent was changed.

I think the reason that you’re having so much trouble with the event is that you’re lacking understanding of some of the more minute game mechanics. Not to be rude or insulting, that just seems to be the most likely conclusion that explains how different our experiences are with the end event.

I just double checked some vids and although i didnt find anything for stormvermin i did at least find that beastmen 100% do it. The gors(not the beastigors) particularly will start charging even if you are just standing still.

As for the stormvermin and charge attacks, are you sure they only initiate them against fleeing targets or can they do it at any time as long as they´ve been in melee range against anyone at one point?

Game mechanics aside…if HM with dual swords and no invis can solo the event, 4 players should be able to as well

hate to be “git gud” about it but…yeah.

I’d be happy to support QoL changes like removing the flashbanging and I guess looking into the variance of spawn numbers

I am to lazy to check the actual video. But to a certain degree you can control enemy attacks by putting up a block or not. Basically it is like this:

  • No Block up: Enemies try to hit you as fast as possible and do more running-up attacks, trying to interrupt the players own attacks
  • Block up: Enemies “coordinate” their attack to create a multi-hit in order to break the block, so they move a bit slower and start surrounding the player until there are enough enemies for the decisive attack

At least it is so according to my experience. I am not on a level to abuse this but it could be used to control enemy behaviour while kiting.

At this point there was actually one who hit you before you jumped down and one that you managed to parry while jumping down, i was meaning to say that it was lucky how those were the only ones then.-

Heart of oak really didnt do you much good here i think : P

Had you taken 1 extra attack by the blightstormer it might have saved you depending on what type of attack but had it been 2 it woulda been over anyway, at least if they did as much as the first.

You wouldnt happen to know if stormvermin also do it if you are standing still as long as the block isnt up? I was trying to figure but the few vids i checked didnt really explore such topics.

I do know gors do it though.

I’m sorry what?

Like I said, my experience. Maybe I made a wrong conclusion based on my observations. I won’t exclude that possibility.

Yeah i reflected for a bit and realized that in my case its most a problem of trying to spend too much time saving teammates making silly mistakes there or just getting caught in multi special scenarios.
But i could swear its not unusual get multiple assassins spawning at the same time there rather than just 1 here or there with a noticeable timelag between each.

But that doesnt occur in any of the vids and i am confused.

I’m starting to think Dual Swords are a little underrated. That is, with 25% crit chance + 45% attack speed + 10% power from talents. But yeah, I think FK could do this too. Really any career with good mobility has the potential for it at least.

Possibly, but it helped me with my real issue in that context – panicking. Seeing my health that low can make me panic, so having that extra buffer of health, useful or not, gave me enough confidence to take those shots when I may have otherwise just kited and held block, which would’ve resulted in me being overrun or worse yet dying of boredom. It’s something I’m working on (the confidence on low hp part, I’ll never be good at holding block for long periods of time).

Seeing my guard get broken doesn’t make me panic as much. It happens a lot to me on WHC so it’s something I’m used to.
