Thank you Fatshark! I am having alot of fun with this event!
It was also quite funny when I logged in as my Ogryn named Henrol to see the “Stolen Rashuns” and in chats I couldn’t help but incorporate it into the chat to say “Yay I get all the Rashuns” lol
I will retract my angry fist-waving for now then, but who can blame me for not checking bindings options for a limited time event! It’s not intuitive.
They should have auto assigned the pickup key to action IMO but hey ho.
I do like the fact that “ANGRY OGRYNS” can show up mid-mission as a consequence!
EDIT: @FatsharkQuickpaw I think it would be good to inform players in the post on here and Steam that keybindings for rations can be changed via options. The other players in my mission were also complaining about it so I don’t think it’s obvious.
You can look at it two ways: your way, or as an extra challenge. I believe you’re experienced enough as a gamer to hit the button even in the middle of heavy fighting. Or you can clear part of the sector first and then pick it up… there are lots of ways to do it and it depends on the team.
Man, FS really seems to lack a basic understanding of what kind of rewards would actually motivate players to come back to play the game.
Like I can’t think of anyone that would go ‘ Wowee, there’s an limited time event going on in DT where I can grab a dinky trinket or a portrait frame! I must log in now!!‘
The event where players had to destroy 20k skulls by either destroying 250 at totems, 3 totems a mission, or by interacting with 1 skull at a time that dropped from enemies.
Over a 3rd of my skulls where individually picked up and I didn’t leave auric or havoc to complete it. It’s annoying to spam E constantly but it doesn’t really stop you from fighting. You can definitely let yourself be distracted, but audio cues will always(sometimes) give you plenty of warning as to when you need to focus a non-trash mob instead of swinging your sword at the ground looking for shinies.
I did try it which is why my sarcastic response was regarding the keybindings. As a lefty, it was horrible.
But it has since been confirmed that the keybindings can be changed for this limited time event in settings…which FS really need to highlight on the event page.
Manually picking up / interacting with 4500 items? This is not why anyone plays darktide and is an absolute chore to do without a mod automating it and even then thats not what attracts people to darktide…. Make loot goblin specialists that need to be killed or something
As a righty who plays games like a lefty for historical reasons – my first computer table only had space for a mouse on the left side – I’m used to have to rebind keys with an external rebind tool (keyd for Linux in my case) for about every other game, because even in the 2020s, too many devs seem to be unable to imagine that anyone would play with something other than WASD. There are soo many games with hard coded keys. Bonus points for not having two bindings per function for flexibility, just like DT that had to be fixed by a mod to have that.
I’m over 40 and have played on PC games since I was a tiny sprog. Luckily most games back then required very few bindings or just a mouse (that you had to take the roller ball out of and clean regularly!).
But yeah key bindings are my absolute biggest pet peeve (hence my big reaction earlier). Every single game I play I have to remap keys. Every. Single. Game.
I am just used to it now but I go BALLISTIC if a game doesn’t allow me to change any key (or doesn’t recognise certain keys or mouse buttons). Like…keybindings are the absolute most basic of mechanics. Why do studios still get them wrong?
Luckily DT has very few bindings so I can shift things about on my 9 button mouse.
Stalker 2 wouldn’t let me remap loads of keys. I completed the entire game without ever being able to go up and down a ladder using my own keys lol.
My biggest nemesis may be the numpad’s Enter key which is often hard coded to the ingame chat and will often retain this function even if the game pretends to let me rebind it. Borderlands 3 did this and I think also Vermintide 1 and/or 2.(?) It’s sometimes hard to remember the culprits when I’ve fixed their flaws with keyd right after I noticed them.
As for your Stalker story, so you don’t use a remapper? If you’re on Windows, most people seem to use Autokey there.
I guess I just got so used to doing it in the before times that it became habit. Also I was only doing it once per install so bespoke software seemed overkill. And you still have to map and bind and configure so may as well just do it in game unless there’s a hard coded key.
Re stalker I eventually bypassed the issue with my Logitech keyboard software once I had remembered it existed. That was a faff too.
I have ADHD so totally forgot that things exist if they’re not right Infront of me lol.
