Level Selection and Freedom of Choice

Voicing my absolute support on this!

To add an example on why:

I recently had a selection of modifies on a mission I never had before with my friends, which was insanely fun.
Black-out and weakened monstrosities.

We really REALLY enjoyed this, the game was getting bland and this was an entirely new and interesting way to have fun. We would love to do more of this, but good luck finding the right modifiers ever again while all of your friends are online.

The amount of times I played with friends and any and all missions we would like to play have the two modifiers we just do not have fun with, so we wait around getting bored for 10 minutes hoping we get something fun, often times to then just be disappointed.
I am playing a smaller variety of maps and modifiers, simply because I am not allowed to choose them. The RNG of the map selection had the exact opposite effect to me and the people I play with then what it was intended for.

I actually don’t get the idea of the grudge.
I don’t care whether they announced or promised something ; QoL and the quality of the game and its enjoyableness are what count.

If they promised a garbage feature, I wouldn’t fight to get it implemented ; it’s about making the best game they can - and they’re definitely on the right track. Just a couple steps more

yea it is more about QoL, considering it was a thing since Vermintide 1
that not having it in Darktide is weird

many coop games have this function, expect DRG but that’s because it does have levels that are generated procedurally.

then I think after that, darktide will have good foundation

the next concern would be the shop being “half”
not displaying fully all the content to buy, and dunno why they don’t do that already.
i think they would even earn more… since you can buy the skins you want.
but i guess they don’t like money  or they hope that by not letting see us the skins we want, they hope that players will buy the ones “we don’t want”.

understandable but bad practice.

Man, this thread is wild to me.

How long has this discussion been active on the forums? Since release??? Do we really need to pretend like it has to have some Book of Grudges level of cordination and design in order to be picked up and passed on?

Can we not be realistic here, that the devs know, but that its not considered an immediate priority? If stubborness on the part of management factors into the reason we can’t pick missions and modifiers freely, maybe spamming devs on a stream is a good way or realigning the companies bloody priorities.

Things like Book of Grudges threads, which take players time and effort, that take real dedication and passion, being expected??? Insane. They are our champions, Fatshark, not yours.

maybe i’m too ogryn-brained to understand, but…
WHY don’t we still have features as basic and self-explaining as selecting map, difficulty and modifiers?
are there technical reasons? server load, difficulty with matchmaking, fear of splitting up the commmunity… or what?
have there been any explanations from the devs for this?
it’s more beyond me than the warp.

I love starting up Darktide multiple times throughout the day and not seeing a single damn mission I want to play, Maelstrom modifiers that are boring and repetitive, seeing the same map show up multiple times in a row(man i sure loved playing Clandestium Gloriana 5+ times in a row back to back when it came out) and just deciding to close the game instead of play. Please give us the option to choose cause holy sh*t it gets so boring playing the same missions and modifiers over and over and over and over. I have over 1000 hours and just want to play whats fun and challenging.

I’d be satisfied with a filter for the QP matchmaker. For me, it’s usually a case of not wanting to play particular maps (or more specifically, particular modifiers) rather than itching to play one in particular.

Heya! I’ve collected a lot of feedback in the thread. Feedback like this would help a lot if I could hear from y’all what do the fun maps/modifiers look like? What are the ones you’re seeing too much?

imo:

fun modifier list:
monstrous specials
mostly scab
hunting grounds
Moebian 21st
Nurgle blessed enemies
Enhanced Blitz
reduced player cool down

not fun:
ventilation purge
snipers
no ammo
tox gas

just off the top of my head - sometimes no ammo can be fun but it’s situational (playing as psyker or you were prepared with an ammo efficient ranged weapon) and have a vet in the team with supply  which is nice also for ammo efficient set-ups

Monstrous Specialists is the best modifier, Moebian 21st was cool too. Modifiers which reduce visibility are not good and gas missions have too many health stimms.

The best piece of feedback is. Fun is entirely subjective. 10 players would tell you that they see Monstrous Specials too much and it’s not fun and another 10 would tell those players to shut up because Monstrous Specials is their favorite modifier and they want to see it more.

This is why we want the ability to play how we want to play, on the mission we want to run, with the modifiers we got to choose.

This is very much my opinion so grain of salt:

I like Moebian 21st (mostly because armored groaners in general), Lights Out (the horror aspect, less fun with Ogryn tho), and anything that makes enemies a specific type.

I don’t like the ones that introduce aggravation like Tox Gas, the snipers, no-ammo runs, vent purge, etc. Lights Out is borderline tbh but is still a nice change of pace.

I’m sorry but this is beside the point, isn’t it ?
The point is to be able to chose maps and modifiers, not get a rebalance on the probabilities of X map and Y “fun” modifiers to appear…

Yes absolutely, and I’ve collected all of that feedback and comments relating to it from this thread. I thought it would also be interesting to get more specific feedback pertaining to what combos people like / don’t like while we’re talking about it.

if you guys really insist on keeping the horrible mission board can we at least get 2 additional maelstroms? that are at least always a monstrous

and on the topic of fun modifiers; anything that’s not hi-intenstiy shocktroop gauntlet, moebians or monstrous, is not fun

also can it finally be fixed that pox bombers dont appear on IIIVEG ?

Fun: Monstrous Specialists when thunderhammer is not present. Hi-Intensity Shock Troop gauntlet. Moebian 21st shock troop gauntlet. Would be nice to see Monstrous, Shock Troop, Moebian 21st all together. No Ammo when psykers do not use staves/blitz.

Not Fun: Hunting Grounds, Mutant Waves, Burster Waves, tox Gas, No Ammo when psykers use staves/blitz, ventilation purge, lights out, mostly ranged, regular hi-intensity, lo-intensity, mostly scab(no dreg bomber). Monstrous Specialists when thunderhammer(or other oneshot boss killing weapons) is present.

IF we have to absolutely keep mission board, I advocate for a maelstrom I-II to ALWAYS be active in a second maelstrom slot, rotating every 20 minutes through a rotation of every map in the game except train mission. This way ManyMoreTry will always have every map with monstrous, alongside monstrous always being an option for those that want the highest possible difficulty for those that don’t mod.

Monstrous is the only fun modifier, monstrous mobian would be an excellent modifier

Modifiers like Mobian and Monstrous are “things to hit and engage with” modifiers and I like those. The modifiers also work more organically than most others, being tied to hordes or special spawns.

The “mostly melee” modifier is also kind of fun. The problems are mostly unrelated directly to the modifier itself. Bulwarks in mass and certain class mechanics bypassing ammo restrictions and removing the challenge. At least expectation for me of the modifier is to force players to melee against melee. The modifier should heavily affect psyker abilities in some way. As a modifier it is good in my opinion.

The issue with stuff like hunting grounds and mutant waves is that they are progression based. You hear them happen, you stand in corner for 30 seconds to clear it and then move on, knowing now this mission is just normal mission for at least the next section or two. They also do nothing for events, so events during a modified mission aren’t really modified. Compare this to something like monstrous where that chaos spawn might come at any corner, be it progressing or during an event. Much more exciting and replayable.

Mass of one type specials also make them feel annoying and not “special”. There isn’t really anything fun about hunting 10 snipers in a fog. It would be more interesting if the threat in the fog was more diverse.

Also, like what I saw written while writing this post, combining modifiers like mobian+monstrous would be extremely fun.

Fun :

  • High intensity shock troop gauntlet (Staple of auric, should be available 100% of the times)
  • hounds
  • mutants
  • extra specials
  • monstrous specialists
  • nurgle buff
  • mostly ranged
  • mostly melee

Not fun :

  • Pox gas
  • Ventilation purge
  • Lights out (Take note : lights out would be very fun if all of us had a body flashlight to begin with, as in if we didnt have to bring the very few select weapon that had a flashlight attached OR if the modifier was reworked to have only certain areas that dont have lights or if it was timed, for example there was a timer when the next darkness comes or even if it was random)
  • Extra pox-bursters

No opinion :

  • Moebian 21st
  • Extra barrels
  • No ammo
  • mostly scab

maps :
There are no maps i dislike, so no opinion here

Map Operators/Narrators (included chars that arent available yet in case they get added in the future)
Love :

  • Mommy Hadron <3
  • Kayex-8
  • Rannik
  • Morrow
  • Shipmistress Brahms
  • Melk

Hate :

  • Howlette
  • Zola
  • Masozi
  • swagger

No opinion :

  • Sefoni
  • Hestia
  • Dukane (didnt see enough of her to form an opinion)

The ones that affect vision, lights out/vent purge and tox gas all give me eyestrain, and stresses me out as it progresses. Especially as we don’t necessarily all have flashlights, whether due to class, or through quickplay not letting you switch out, which really needs to be addressed before Lights Out becomes even close to a ‘fun’ modifier.

Lights Out could be a rolling blackout. Give us a reason to hack into the system to redirect power to the current area, or skip it and move faster forward. This would’ve been fantastic for the Twin ambush event, she swoops in, cuts the power and ambushes.

Tox gas, I don’t feel is designed well enough to be enjoyable, like there’s challenge, but it’s not a challenge you can beat without turtling up and waiting to move. If it sapped toughness but didn’t corrupt, it might be more manageable, or didn’t sap toughness and applied corruption if your toughness was zero. Currently, there’s less than zero reason to stand in the gas, so to properly interact, you have to outwait it, and then run to the next free zone, and that makes maps very boring.

Really liked the Mobean 21st, and the majority of the others are fine. Monsterous and Nurgle blessed are fun, as are all the blitz/barrel ones

As for the ones that show up too often, Operations should be a separate choice to QP into. Really if we had the option to pick and choose map and modifiers, it would make this game so much more flexible and fun. People would be playing maps they enjoy rather than grinding out ones they didn’t just to get the board to cycle around.

Also, could we get Brunt as a mission giver?
