Level Selection and Freedom of Choice

I’m not really in any faction, I don’t have any problem with the mission board, I prefer new modifiers than complete freedom, In truth I would like a mission board like the Deep Rock Galactic, fixed missions fixed modifiers freedom of choice in the level if I have to chose.
Anyhow I don’t care much what will be done with the board, as long I keep having no troubles in finding teamates. One of the reasons I don’t play Vermintide2 anymore is because all my friends in the game have kinda moved on and I can’t find many players around my area.

Well, if you dont care about the board missions then you can just select quickplay and you will find a game regardless what rework gets done for at least 2-3 more years considering the current player numbers and state of the game.
Unless you live in greenland or smth.

As long as the game has 3 other players in it and it doesn’t take more than one minute to find
it I will not complain.

I fully support the ability for people to pick and play whatever they want.

However, I like the current mission board for the variety of maps and modifiers it throws me into when I hit quickplay, and the quickplay experience might be homogenized more into the “Screaming Bell” situation where too many people are choosing to run the same maps or modifiers over and over so they represent a much bigger share of the missions you can quickplay into.

My suggestion would be to allow people in private games to pick and choose whatever they want to play, and the new Party Finder feature could be used to find parties for people to run specific content if they don’t already have a premade (e.g. “Monstrous Maelstrom only!”).

These lobbies are to be kept separate from the Quickplay pool using the traditional mission board.

Thoughts?

keeping the current system, and adding on top of that the ability to play whatever map etc. In private it could work, and probably also easier to implement coding wise.

with party finder where at least, people can join so it is also “public”
would be nice so people will start using that

i also support the freedom of choice of picking whatever map and whatever special conditions, maybe also the one that were used for special events, like Rinda in lights out and so on.

I like the idea of having both but keeping them separate.
However we still need more options in the board we have now.

There actually is NO variety for maelstrom currently because 80% of the times its always the same bloody mix of modifiers.
From my 300 hours of play i only saw “ranged only” 2 times, “melee only” like 10-ish times.
And “high gauntlet, mutants + hounds” / “specialists and monstrosities” a thousand times over.

sometimes there are times when i see a maelstorm and it has a map i don’t like

and i want to do maelstorms but some maps in that moment, it is not the right mood for me

so it forces me to play something else which maybe in that time i don’t want, and this is kinda meh

luckily there are most of the time maps i like to play, and high intensity shock troop is a fun modifier, but i like maelstorms more with the other special conditions there.

That’s a great idea. Before I wouldn’t really entertain the thought of “well just make it for private only lmao” but this might genuinely make the party finder a way more used feature.

regarding map selection, it’s a bit hard to say. Since Darktide has a relatively slow update cycle, the peak player count tends to drop significantly for certain periods. During those times, having map selection could cause player numbers to spread out too thin, and this might lead to ping issues in specific regions.

personally, I don’t mind not having a map selection as long as they continue improving the current modes: standard, auric, and maelstrom. specifically, I think auric should just focus on damnation. for auric damnation, the base spawn rate should be even higher than in standard, and for missions like High Intensity Shock Trooper Gauntlet (HISTG), I’d like to see them keep the base spawn rate and add modifiers like “Hunting Grounds” or “Lights Out.”

also, please let our characters carry a flashlight, not just our guns. the visibility during melee combat is poor, and for ogryn, it’s practically blinding, which is why most people avoid playing “Lights Out” since it’s literally painful to the eyes.

as for maelstrom, they should increase the variety of selectable missions available at a time and always have a highest-difficulty option, like a “monster special,” to keep things more engaging.

i don’t think player number would spread out.

you could keep the current system mission board, while having also a new some sort of lobby browser, where you can select your missions.

you “host” the map you want, people can still use quickplay to join, or using the current system to join, where if the mission is also available on the old current mission board, they can also join those maps where people have chosen to play with the new system.

basically something combined altogheter to make it work seamlessly.

or for now, limiting the ability to choice of selecting maps, in private games and party finder which could be a good compromise, so that it wouldn’t either impact the normal matchmaking, if it’s easier to do coding wise.

or overhauling everything and adding a lobby browser for everyone
but maybe it wouldn’t work at large scale perhaps a lobby browser now that I think.

I completely agree. this is something both I and the majority of the player base want (i think). If certain maps are unpopular, consider increasing the rewards to incentivize play (even though that might not be a long-term fix). Alternatively, freshen up those maps with updates or tweaks to make them more engaging and fun.

I am not.

NGL, all I run is Quickplay. I’d understand this being a pain point for pre-made groups, but it seems a bit weird for anyone just diving in to have complaints aside from “there’s no modifiers I like and the maps are a bit stale since I’ve just run them within the last 20 minutes”. There are plenty of maps that I don’t quite enjoy as much as others (it’s not the map, it’s mostly due to players being bad at engaging with objectives rather than obsessing over horde clearing off in the distance), but I still play them all.

My two cents: keep the board, but alter it so that it has a larger map variety and varied modifiers and allow players to select their desired difficulty (EG all the maps listed are baked in with or without modifiers, whatever the Omnissiah ordains, but you choose what difficulty level you’d prefer to tackle it on). Either way, no more “uprising on X couple maps, Heresy on y couple maps, Damnation on Z few maps.”

I prefer a random rotation with some filters/timers applied so maps are on a more reasonable rotation to give variety.

But, either way… if this change does come, it shouldn’t impact me too greatly as I’m already running exclusively on QP.

PS

So help me, if you goobers just pick the same handful of maps over and over again and screw up the existing variety I’m going to be livid.

If anyone actually hangs out on the Reddit or steam forums would probably be good to link this here and get significantly more votes going.

We want it for private games. Certain maps aren’t fun and their events spawn almost no enemies.

My friends and I don’t always have the time to play regularly

We’ve had it, several times, where we had multiple sessions in a row where it was the SAME map pool both times. When this happened, we realized it was the same maps as last time, we just quit out and played something else. That sucks, and just makes us not want to try again next time.

We haven’t seen some of the conditions yet. I have friends who still has not seen lights out. I have 500+ hours in the game and I think I played it like…3 times. But we’ve all played the hounds modifier 3 million times. We’re tired of it.

I would like the ability to play what map we want, when we want. I can accept the compromise that it would have to be a private game for that to happen. I’d rather not, but I think that could be alright.

(IF we do do that though, a bot improvement is imperative)

My two cents:

  • i think other issues are more pressing and map selection is really not that important for me personally. That’s why I think this questionnaire is not ideal, because you don’t take into account how important that feature is relative to others.
  • VT2 has map selection and I constantly couldn’t find groups for the maps I wanted to play. I would like to avoid that.
  • idea: map selection could be made available for private games.
  • idea: a second auric maelstrom alternative would be nice pp

And private games could be launched solo.

On the weekend, I played the event condition on Consignment Yard. Came back a few hours later and the only choice for the event condition was Consignment Yard again. Great job, mission board.
