Let people play solo

I’m tired of playing a team game where 1 or 2 loner speed zealots with shroudfield rush ahead leaving the rest of the team playing the game with the spawns of 4 players.

This is ESPECIALLY bad in havoc. Pubs are just no-agro speedrunning their way through the missions and it makes everyone else’s experience miserable.

as usual, the problem isn’t solo it’s that zealots suck. nerf them into the ground or remove 'em guys.

The problem is other players are inconsiderate. It’s the reason people want to play solo with bots, like me. It’s the only reason I bought this game. Because it was in Vermintide, and the devs said it was coming. But now that they have my money, it’s no longer a priority. Classic bait and switch.

there is no vermintide built for solo play, you’re just being a weirdo about locking your lobby.

Lol, what are you talking about? In Vermintide you can use your other characters as bots. You can level them up, equip them as you want, and then they will be your bots when you play solo.

its jakal, this is one of his bits he does. people point out that solo mode was ‘almost finished and ready’ 23 months ago and we haven’t heard anything about it. apparently that means its dead and we should stop talking about it.

you know, like vs mode in vt2. wait, that exists now.

You’re right, no tide game or the genre they’re based on was “built” for solo play. But every. Single. Game. In this genre except Darktide allows players to launch a mission solo.

It’s not weird for us to have more fun playing these games with bots in the same way it’s not weird for you to prefer playing with Randoms.

Fatshark promised us that we could play solo two years ago. We deserve to know when it’s coming

it is SUPER weird to enjoy vermintide more with bots than people. that’s like peanut butter and catsup sandwiches weird.

No, calling ketchup catsup is SUPER weird though.

You do understand subjectivity, right? What’s fun for you is subjective. What’s fun for me is subjective. Neither of us is wrong/weird for feeling the way we do. Breath of the Wild is objectively a great game, but my subjective opinion is that it, and by proxy Tears of the Kingdom, are the worst Legend of Zelda games in the entire franchise.

Not likely to happen while Fatshark pays for the server hosting. Servers aren’t free, and if they’re leased it’s a reoccurring expense.

Private matches with fully adjustable modifiers would be more likely if Fatshark implemented a “premium” subscription to Darktide that made covering the costs of hosting private matches on servers more manageable.

Also, Peer to Peer would be a disaster.

Ironic then, that all the solo mods currently available use the same servers Fatshark is paying for and not one of them has been taken down.

I don’t know what Fatshark pays to host servers. Perhaps it’s not a pressing issue for them if a handful of players run private matches on their servers using mods but hosting costs would be an issue if private matches were more mainstream?

I’m not saying I’m against private matches by the way, I’m just acknowledging that there’s a cost to hosting servers and it’s probably reoccurring if Fatshark leases the servers.

I understand there’s a cost, but they knew that going into dedicated servers over P2P from the Vermintide games.

Originally Solo was going to be hosted locally, no idea what happened to that idea. Would be nice if Fatshark would say something about Solo Mode lol

there’s no irony, the mod exploits the system’s accomodation for ongoing games needing to be maintained until everyone’s done playing. “solo” players are basically loitering in the theatre between viewings while fatshark cleans the floor. if they tighten up how they manage those games they could probably kill the mod and save some money but it’s not enough projected savings to put the work into it i guess.

This is accurate. And although FS told us they might change how long these missions hang around for, they haven’t done so in over a year. My personal theory is that they’re not changing it, and just eating the costs, because they know people use it.

Hence the irony. People are using “solo mode players would eat into costs” while Fatshark sits there and watches solo players eat into costs and does nothing to stop it, meaning they could open the doors for solo players to play in active lobbies and stop them from “loitering”. This would also allow Fatshark to tighten up server management and keep them from being active for the 24 hours they’re no longer on the board.

I know the famous song “Ironic” doesn’t use great examples of irony but the definition is here: “The use of words to express something different from and often opposite to their literal meaning.” “Incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs” i.e. “Fatshark won’t allow players to play solo to save costs on servers but allows solo players to use servers through mods anyway.”

Edit: found a definition for irony that fits better, leaving the original definition with a strikethrough because it’s also a definition of irony.

you seem to misunderstand the difference between “not stopping people from eating the chips someone else dropped” and “stealing chips out of you hand”.

but you also admit to having no idea what giving you want you want would actually entail so it hardly matters.

Is it stealing if a) the players paid for the game just like everyone else and b) the developers allow you to do it?

Also, where did I admit to having no idea what solo mode would actually entail?

Solo Mode was originally slated to be hosted locally, so the entire premise of “solo mode eats into servers” is BS to begin with because Fatshark already found a way around that. Also, as people are already using mods and workarounds like inviting and kicking someone from a private lobby to play solo, the whole concept of “solo mode eats into servers” is happening anyway and allowing a private lobby to be launched with 1+ player(s) instead of 2+ players would really not cause anything negative to happen on Fatshark’s side and would actively allow players on Consoles to play solo without having to cheese the private lobbies as they can’t use mods.

Edit: as far as we know (because Fatshark refuses to comment on this in detail) Solo Mode hasn’t happened because they’re not happy with its current state (read: state 2 years ago) and other tasks, like crafting rework, took priority over getting solo mode into a state they are happy with. So, as it stands, Solo Mode will probably be implemented as a locally hosted game mode that won’t eat into servers but seeing as it’s been 2 years with no update on that front, allowing private lobbies to be launched with 1+ player(s) would fit the needs of everyone who’s asking for it at this time and would not really change the environment. Again, anyone who is determined enough to play solo can absolutely do so already and allowing us to do it without cheesy work arounds or mods just makes it more accessible
