Lasrifle change in 40k Lore... Its Bad!

So i was watching Milk& CookiesTTW Yesterday about the New TTW 40k Game. I noticed that the Las shots were now Yellow and more akin to Star Wars. No more “Vapor Trails” fo Las. Thats its Yellow i dont mind at all. iiRC Yellowish Las shots was nothing new in Gaming at least. Milk& Cookies wrote me that its gonna be the “New Thing” in the Future officially…

To be Fair Battlesector had it already as did other Games. Also Offical Depiction were contradictory at times.

HOWEVER when you explain a Lasrifle indepth as did Fatshark to an extent when showing off the Las the first time and about how it would Sound like due to Superheated air exploding in a Crack, i just loved it. It makes the most sense as does the Vapor Trails. Color doesnt matter since in one can change it easily for Laser Lights and Torch Lighters with colored Rings and such. Like some Countries use Red Marker Ammo and others Yellow, or Green.

The Star Wars-esque portraying of Laser shots, from Super Heated Air Vapor Trails (with a Ballistic Projectile sometimes described) as depicted still in Darktide feels very bad. Sometimes Las is Laser, sometimes just Energy Explosion and with or without Ballistic component as mentioned already

There is technicality on Youtube explaining if and how some 30k/40k would function and function at all from different Sources from couple Years ago. I couldnt find it anymore its a couple of Years old so it vanished in the Immaterium. iiRC Tank Girl and some other Dude making a Video about it and showing technical details how it would work. Also Loremaster Luetin of course.

SO are we gonna see that change, i hope not. If FS changes form Red to Yellowish i dont care. Its another GW slop (sry but true) for whatever Unknown, unecessary, hated Reason to put Fans on the Edge again as they show over and over sadly, since they hate most of their Community its seems or just wanna change for sake of changing…

Could we get a Statement from a Dev if we get that change or not?! Do we really need it, or will DT still be its little Pocket Universe where we can enjoy the “Last True Flashlight” in Warhammer?!

I really hope so

Cheers

There’s actually really good gameplay reasons to get rid of the las trails as they exist currently. Sight visibility is terrible because of them.

I like how the las looks in Darktide the most. This is exactly how I always envisioned them in my head. Also red looks way cooler than yellow

the answer is no because the change you’re talking about is something that’s been a part of old 40k art for a long time now. lasgun representation has never exactly been set in stone, it constantly changes from game to game, trailers, and books. if it was that hyper-specific, GW would be stricter with things like the sound design as well.

I would wager that they moved away from red Lasguns with Star Wars’ Blasters.

But yellow is just lamer, green wouldn’t be too bad

Here’s what I want:

It’s not explicit in the text, but we’re allowed to gather than the weapons called “lasguns” are not lasers. They are many different types of weapons, and only a few are actually lasers. Whoever does know what these weapons actually are, and even those who suspect that they aren’t all really lasers, either fear to speak the truth, or are withholding it.

So lasguns they can behave however the hell the current writer or developer wants … which is already what happens, but we can just skip the (futile) realism and consistency portions of the debate.

Ya know, the factories might even churn out weapon-innards that have completely different operating principles, but fit into the same weapon-outards. So this year’s shipment of “lasguns” might fire continuous red beams that burn, where last year’s fired yellow bolts that caused explosions, and anyone pointing out the discrepancy re-appears as a servitor.

I’ve been playing the game and reading lore since 3rd edition and lasguns have always been lasers

that’s more or less how it’s been before GW apparently started demanding star wars blasters. art, books, games all described and depicted them in various different ways like you say. it’s a really strange decision from a business perspective to lock everything into one type, i don’t really understand what the thought process was

Well, i said its not consistent.

Old 40k Art is not COnsistent either as you know, so its not really fair to “Just change it”.

Remember Dawn of War 3?! They changed from Stubber for the Guard to exactly the Lasrifle “Beams” we have here. Nobody wanted Stubbers from the Playerbase and most that were New into 40k that knew little about Warhammer, at least were familiar with Lasrifle how they are depicted here. That was the Statement from Players on the Forum

However if you break it down how it would work, Star Wars Lasers make no sense. Im pretty sure youve seen Real Life Laser Anti Drone anti Missile Lasers. Its always a Focused Beam. You can go so far as to say MechWarrior. There you have Pulse Laser Versions aswell. More Power but breaks inbetween so its not everheating or melting Parts due to output. Even there, its a Focused Beam

PS: Since FS works closely together with GW, this why some things wont happen duet to being, having to be Lore accurate and GW wanna go with a Red Line now, Lasrifle is absolutely Legit in DT. Space Space Marine 2 also depicts its exactly as here. THey are even more strict about that. Sabre ALWAYS Reasons with GW allowing or disallowing. SHort projectile Trails like in Star Wars make absolutely NO SENSE AT ALL for a Laserbased Weapon!

I like Red, Green is awesome sure, Blue could look very cool aswell. I dont mind the Coloring i dont care for Color that much.

But the Vapor Trails or how ever you wanna look at it, make it not just Unique, but are actually realistic and Logical.

AND NO they wanna go the route of Star Wars Blasters now…

Battlesector M8, as it is depicted there since Day one

Yuu can start reading Horus Heresy. Specific depiction of the Weapons in the first couple Books when they introduce all teh Factions and so on.

30k is very consistence compared to 40k. There were less Writers and ti seems they actually talked to each other. One can indulge me otherwise if you have proof.

If you read my Text, i stated, that some Lasguns use kinda Ballistic Based Projectiles but are Hybrid and use Laser. Other pure Energy. It came down to Mags so to speak. The Ballistic Projectile Material is more or less Infinite iiRC, but the Battery in the Mag isnt. Its function kinda like Eldar Shuriken Pistols. They shave off Metal Particels and then they get sealed in a Way. Sry im no expert on Eldari Wepaons, that would be Heretical wouldnt it!

The next thing is “mags can be reloaded” in the Sun. Like we did with Gameboys Batteries in the 1990´s chilling outside. Depicted first iiRC in the Book Legion (HH). Could be wrong maybe couple Books before or later. In Legion you get a very good depiction of Guardsmen, its all about them mostly. Really good read. Lucifers Black first depiction aswell.

The thing about Lasrifle is, that the Emperor in his blessed Foresight wanted a Standardised Rifle that was easy to manufacture, reliable and cheap, hence the Lasrifle was born.

The Imperial Guard or “Solar Auxillia” as they were called in the Glory Days of 30k were using Volkite Weaponry. These are constant Beams of Energy. Waayyy more powerful, Technically superior and Deadly. As it is with most, they “forgot” how to make them. STC´s should have the Template, at least some since in the Golden Age aswell, this was Standard Rifle for Humanity as the Las is now. However the AdMech has some forgotten Tech and Templates since they search all the time for STC but wont use it for no reasonble Reason other than Hoarding and balancing out the Imperium in teh Grander Scheme of Warhammer iMHO. ALso they tend to holding back Tech for themselves. As it was shown again in the newst iterration i know of with the new Warmaster Titan. Yeah that was a cheaky one, but at least it made sense unlike Custodes slap on. Yeah i want Brothers of Silence now, aynthing else is discrimination

Yes, agreed. Standardised in mayn Games in the last decade until know (DT/ SM 2/ DoW 3) and now another Retcon?! makes no sense at all…

i couldnt fin any Statement about it.

Yellow = ok!
Blaster shots = bad.

i’ve only just learned about this recently but apparently this blogpost is where GW out of nowhere clarified lasgun canon.

supposedly (and as far as i can tell it’s true) all depictions of lasguns made after this blogpost were yellow star wars blasters. the only exception being darktide that was allowed to keep them red in the skitarii trailer. but it seems that with this blogpost they started demanding all depictions be consistent.

interestingly the GW blogpost makes it seem like this is the original intent, but you can look at other pieces of old art from the time and they show las as beams of light:

so i really dont understand wtf GW is doing. they want to chase the starwars audience or something. artwork has always been inconsistent on it

Yellow beams = OK :+1:

Oh thanks a lot M8!

I read the Post : Their depiction has been remarkably consistent

LMAO, they are on Crack or something

that is absolutely UNTRUE as your Box shows yet again. Yellow okay, Star Wars Blaster, not really showed here

Go with Yellow, stay with Vapor Trails/ Laser Trail as we have in DT and many many many other Games

As they say themselves and they State now Officially, Las Weapons are not Ballistic once and for all, from now on (maybe…) So Blasters make absolutely no sens at all. Anti Drone anti Missiles Lasers…

They have writen absolutel nothing about they actually work, cause they cant justify it looking like Star Wars, but they stated in this Articel that Las Weapons are purely Energy based now…

hahahah jeez

QUOTE form the Link:

Accuracy and recoil

*A principle advantage of the lasgun over autoguns is its accuracy – they’re laser accurate (the skill of the firer not withstanding). This is in part due to its almost total lack of recoil. A lasgun doesn’t have the same jolt caused by gunpowder rounds detonating, reciprocating bolts, shell ejections and all that malarky you get with ballistic weapons.

*Firing a lasgun, even rapid firing, causes almost no kick. Many Regiments – such as the Cadian Shock Troops and Mordian Iron Guard – are trained to take advantage of this feature by deploying in disciplined firing lines from where they can lay down punishing and near-continous volleys of fire.

Jep we have that here, maybe we have too much recoil in DT as we all mentioned from the beginning and from the Article!

Art imitates art

All the Art in the Link is Selective… They show 4 Pictures and think us dumb as we couldnt remember shite

*More recently, we’ve also started to see them pop up on our TV screens and gaming devices with varying examples of what they look and sound like in action.

What TV Series are they referring to im wondering?!

Ohhh riiight, they mean their own Bred Animations on Warhammer+.

They took down a loof Fanbased stuff. So the only TV Screens they can actually mention, is their own official Animations.

I have Warhammer+ and in EVERY SINGLE DEPICTION OF WARHAMMER+ SHOW ITS NOT STAR WARS BOLTS AND YELLOW, its Red Vapor Trails… Who the f´are they even lying to. Mostly to themselves it seems

*Of course, some variance in colour is explained by the energy interacting differently to different sorts of atmospheric conditions, not to mention the many patterns and variations in use across the vastness of the Imperium.

Fair enough about Color, that can be justified

there’s also old codex stuff that should speak for itself

just a weird retcon. but GW is kinda known for it at this point i guess

Broooo

hahaha, ridicoulous. I had to write more stuff into my post answering to you

And that’s why I didn’t get the guard dlc for that game. I’m not dealing with that nonsense.

I mean, if we were to be accurate, lasers for military purposes would be invisible if we’re talking 1060nm-1080nm. And being invisible and silent would actually be beneficial. May not look very cinematic.

But ultimately depends on the material you want to have absorb vs pass through and the distance of the target.

Lasers aren’t very practical weapons and there’s a lot of hand waving you have to do.

At the end of the day I think it’s really just “cool” factor and what people like for aesthetic and cinematic purposes.

…

Though it would be cool to shoot a silent and invisible laser gun that passes through armor and melts organic target quickly with radiation and heat.
