How is it less mobile if it has 1 more dodge count, 10% dodge bonus, the same slower movement speed while attacking and actually having a higher attack speed? Unless you mean the stats lie?
…? I don’t understand. You can see the stats right there. It does decent damage, and as I’ve said you can use it fairly regularly to deal decent (for the weapon) AP damage.
Sorry to come in a bit late to the conversation, but I think we are devaluing the Greatsword a bit. One of it’s best features is one not listed; it slips over enemy armor and shields on its heavy attack.
With Paced Strikes and Swift Slaying, this weapon chomps down hard and fast on everything and, fortunately, it also delivers massive damage/stagger to all targets in range… regardless of the number of elites present. Just last night I spent a chunk of time cleaving 4 CWs and the rest of their patrol like they were chaff.
I’d say they both have their place and play-style. I’d say one of them, the Greatsword, leans harder into covering your team and being blanket more powerful (a catch-all in melee, so to speak) while the Executioner is a crowd clearer on lights and an Elite killer on heavies, but you can’t every intermix those two functions like the Greatsword can.
TL;DR: I think both weapons have their strengths and I’m not entirely convinced the Greatsword needs a buff.
I agree, executioner is good fun spamming lights all over your hordes with a nice charge shot but great sword is a more rewarding skill / style weapon with its own niche.
Would you mind expanding on that? (if I’m not wrong) the Greatsword heavy attack goes on passed armored targets, allowing you to hit more people on the other side of the armored target, staggering and damaging them. The armored target in the way takes whatever damage they were supposed to and the subsequent targets of the hit still suffer the same damage they would’ve if the armored target was a regular rat.
I might be terribly wrong, but I’m fairly sure that’s how it works (perhaps what I viewed while playing was a result of a teammate hitting them, but I don’t think it was).
Every unit have mass, and its just subtracting from cleave
Normally weapon no matter cleave will stop on any armored unit (thats why you can’t cleave gatling etc with normal weapons though they have 1 mass)
2hd sword/hammer exe etc can cleave through those units but mass will still subtract that cleave (though at smaller % because of heavy linesman/tank mods)
For example cw have 20 mass and 50% heavy linesman
so heavy attack with 2hd sword with cleave of 21something will cleave through him but will have only 11 more cleave
Stagger affected mass but no idea how or if its still affect
It does but I don’t know the numbers, normally a mace can stagger multiple marauders for example but will only damage the first hit, but once staggered, it can damage 2 marauders in 1 hit. That’s at least a 24% reduction in mass. Climbing and dropping enemies are considered staggered for damage calculations but not for mass calculations.
How about move a heavy attacks to light attacks, but the damage is slightly weaker? And replace its heavy attack with some thing more vertical, like narrow x pattern of swings with high damage?
By the way, I really want its block animation gets changed. Y’know, every 2h swords’ block animation looks like their left hand’s wrist is bent way too much as it looks like that wrist is broken.
Not a simple solution if you change it to heavies being headshots feels like a weaker ex sword if you change lights to AP headshots feels like a 2h hammer / 2h axe.
I’d rather it have flail swing pattern sweep sweep headshot headshot for lights with being able to bypass light rotations sweep with 2nd heavy swings and after 2nd light one heavy can reset light swing rotation. Something unique and useful to help with heavy armor but also keeping 2h sword unique.
Can keep or swap back push attack.
More rotations like elf 1h sword and sword/shield being dynamic, complex and rewarding!
If you still don’t see why Greatsword is good, try it on the Twins+Vanguard event.
Speaking from experience as Zealot, you can do more reliable damage than a lot of other Weapons. Merc Kruber’s Limb-Splitter may be even more insane for that game mode.
Before trying it in this event, I didn’t have much experience with the Greatswords, and found them to be pretty boring, but I now see why people swear by it for Cata+.
Something I’d like to add about the greatsword is that there’s an illusion called the “Halfling-splitter” which raises it above the executioner sword.
Now if you can also get your hands on the “Bögenhafen Banger” (everyone who knows Swedish will get this joke) you can have both these two weapons on the same character. There’s just no other combo that tops this.
i have no clue why the greatsword is SO SLOWWWWWWWWWWWW! it should be a faster two handed options for attacking speed with its high damage still i honestly think the great sword needs to do a better job killing non armored infantry units but it really doesn’t for some reason.
i just stick with excutioner sword due to it helping out at times getting that armored unit before the trash mob comes, as well as its better at CC than the greatsword, what they need to do is take away the CC on greatsword and just give it faster attack speed, so kruber can kill those non armored units even faster, otherwise it serves no purpose at all.
honestly, all greatswords are all rubbish, slow, low damage and penetrate little(against armored). if two armored mixes in crowd it can just type a"GG". the executioner’s sword has a high dmg at least.
