I've come to a conclusion

While I think it’s very important for games companies to release finished complete products first, then monetise after I’m getting a bit fed up with all the hype for Larian.

They convinced people to pay full price to test the game for * a year*. It’s not like it came brand new off the forcourt without a hitch.

BUT, the statement that says they’re releasing the full price fully complete feature rich game for one price is something of a body blow to the AAA industry who have… let’s be honest… released utter crap more often than not hoping to keep a player base even though the product is basically half-arsed.

looks meaningfully at Fatshark

Worse than that. The console release will likely end up with a watered down experience for PC players.

There’s absolutely no way that consoles are going to be able to deal with the enemies on screen, the blood spatter, the ragdoll bodies, etc, that PC’s can handle.

But one of the big draw cards will be crossplay between Xbox, PC and Gamepass.

Sure. The ragdoll bodies, blood spatter, and the like can be toned down clientside… But try to put 40 poxwalkers with elites on the screen at once and the console will have a melt down.

And that’s not even accounting for FS’ dodgy netcode.

I’m somewhat hopefully that so much of the system being handled by the servers (despite the impact that has on things like hit detection) might help with this.

But if we get into a situation where enemy density gets toned down on console, like it was for VT2, in the interest of cross play it will be a death blow for the game.

I’m already worried about console players queuing into higher difficulties and trying to hang while using a controller. Sorry but the fidelity and level of control just isn’t there to compete.

From what I understand a series S gpu is roughly equivalent to a gtx 1060. I hear that people with 1060s can run Darktide more or less fine at low graphics.

Its gonna be a 30fps game on series S by default, but maybe 60 with FSR I guess.

Yeah. I run with a 1080, and I’ve had no real issues graphically. I don’t have many bodies that remain my screen at any one time, and everything is dialled down to pretty much the bare minimum.

But console gamers aren’t going to want a bare minimum looking game.

They’re going to look at what it’s like on PC and spit the dummy as to why their game doesn’t look remotely as good.

So it’ll be a balancing act between making it pretty and making it playable, and the amount of enemies on screen will be one of the main victims, I’d almost put money on it.

Console players are still going to be happy with 15-20 poxwalkers and elites coming at them, and business-wise it makes sense. They’re much better off pandering to the 10k console players than the 3k PC userbase.

Dunno about that man, series S owners are happy when a game is barely functional :joy:

Series X might expect more I guess, but a Series X is equivalent to a 3060 and they can cheat with whatever upscaling/frame generation on that

There is already a shocking amount of people playing DT with a controller. If you happen to not die last, go check out the camera view of teammates. There are… a lot of people with controllers.

Not saying there can’t be good players using controllers. But I’d absolutely argue all things being equal, the controller subtracts significantly from the skill ceiling achievable.

You haven’t played the game eh?

Because netplay has been a problem since day 1, reports have been numerous but largely ignored if not entirely, and it’s only getting worse over time ?

I don’t doubt it’s an issue that can be fixed, i doubt Fatshark is either willing or competent enough to address it

They didn’t coerce those people. They told them it was early access, released it, took feedback, improved the game, and then released a feature complete experience.

I have, jackass, i put 60h in it because everyone’s having an orgasm about it for some obscure reason that feels like a joke i’m not in on

It’s not even finished, you on the other hand clearly didn’t reach Act 3 if you’re making that kind of statements so keep quiet

Recently there has been a wash of releases challenging the trend of predatory GaaS models. Consumers are hungry for games that respect their time, are enjoyable, and don’t try to shove microtransactions down our throats at every opportunity.

Unfortunately, FS decided to not go that route with DT. A fact that’s glaringly obvious when you look at who’s the lead for DT.

Sure, I bet there are some FS employees that are truly passionate about their craft, but unlike studios like Larian, FS leadership isn’t passionate about anything else but profits and player retention. With The latter is failing spectacularly, but they appear to be trying to push out an Xbox port in an attempt to score a temporary boost in income via microtransactions.

It’s anyone’s guess what the plan is after the Xbox release. Everyone hopes it’s meaningful content, but it’s equally (probably more) possible FS will either abandon the game or double down on the scummy design decisions and microtransactions. Either way, the odds are greater at this point that FS will eventually kill the game with incompetence and greed in some way or another.

I’ve personally boycotted FS this past week because of Larian’s exemplary work
hopefully more days to come.
Saw the player base, sad to see a game that you like die but it was in it’s cards from the get-go, even more now ; there hasnt been a big enough change to prove otherwise. It’s all been fixes with minor additions to keep the already pressed fans interested, which it clearly hasn’t done as much as they thought it would, for all parties.
If a game from a different genre can steal a player’s interest, then what’s the point in being in the genre you’re currently in (theres gotta be things they’re better at, and equally things you’re better at), what’s the point in all of this now that BG3 has humbly held the feces ridden mirror to our faces.

BG3 hasnt created a trend, but simply reminded us of how games were made and released back in the infancy stages of gaming. Pce Darktide, although we havent shared much between each other cuz how can you, you will be missed.

If what you want is 2 specific T4 perks and 2 specific T4 blessings, then the update improved your chances by around 1/3 of what they were before and went from optimistic~0.76% up to around optimistic ~1.01%.

Although some weapons only really need two good perks or two good blessings, but not neccessarily both, in order to be near max performance.
For those cases, it got much better.
The best thing you can do for yourself, is to craft an item that you deem acceptable. Then just ignore the entire crafting part of the game and try to not get annoyed by it.

Calculations here:

The goal is to get two T4 perks of choice and two T4 blessings of choice on a weapon with high modifiers.
With 16 perk options (equal probabilities), 8 blessing options (equal probabilities) and assuming a very optimistic 25% probability of any perk/blessing appearing as a T4

Here are the odds to get:

  • at least 1 right T4 perk:
    1-(62/64)*(61/63)=0.062=6.2%
  • at least 1 right T4 blessing:
    1-(30/32)*(29/31)=0.123=12.3%

Which means, that these are the probabilities to get an item that can be saved by being able to replace 2 of the 4 stats (1p+1b or 2p or 2b)

  • at least 1 right T4 perk and 1 right T4 blessing on the same item (replace 1 perk and 1 blessing):
    0.062*0.123=0.0076=0.76%
  • at least 2 right T4 perks on the same item (replace 2 blessings):
    (2/64)*(1/63)=0.0005=0.05%
  • at least 2 right T4 blessings on the same item (replace 2 perks)
    (2/32)*(1/31)=0.002=0.2%

This means (optimistically, with a 25% probability of getting a T4 perk/blessing):
Right now, an item has a ~0.76% chance to get 2x T4 perks and 2x T4 blessings of choice (after replacing two of them).

After the update, an item has a 0.0076+0.0005+0.002=0.0101=1.01% chance to get 2x T4 perks and 2x T4 blessings of choice (after replacing two of them).
The probability will actually be a bit lower than that, since there is a partial overlap of outcomes between the events, whose probabilities that i added together, but the probabilities are small and the overlap is small, so it would still round to 1.01%.

We know for certain, that the probability of getting a T4 blessing is significantly higher on the upgrade to orange, than it is on the upgrade to blue.
This further reduces the value of the upcoming change (since it is incredibly unlikely to get T4 on both blessings). If perks behave in a similar manner, the value of the upcoming change goes to basically nothing (for weapons), and the update will improve our odds to get the item we want by about 0.1%.

As you can see, the effect of the update on weapons will basically be non existent and very optimistically will bring the probability of perfect perk+blessing rolls from ~0.76% up to ~1.01%).
Although the change will be huge for curios (need 1/3 instead of 2/3 good perks).

Coerced was probably the wrong word, you’re right but it still had a year of testing, and people are somehow behaving like it’s a finished product straight off the bat.

I knew a guy who was pretty good with one in V1 and V2. Never understood why, though he did main sienna with a autoaim bolt staff.

Seriously, if you need more buttons, buy a mouse with more buttons.

It’s less of an issue though, if there’s only ever going to be half of the current enemies on the screen.

This is what I use. I bound jump to G14 (numpad 6) and special to g17. g9-11 does 1-2-3 things. G12, 13, 15, 16, 18 and 19 and 20 are all for mods functions.

No I’m taking my time enjoying the game not rushing through it to be a contrarian xD goofy behavior imo but to each their own

People are not ignoring the early access period. They are praising the studio for being honest, releasing the game, fixing it’s issues, and being responsive to player concerns and experience.

Just because people like the game doesn’t mean they are looking past things.
