It is now VERY easy to get a weapon with 80 in all stats and 60 in Mobility / Defenses (which is what all players will aim for) with just a few purchases, which you then cap out and swap stats and marks around.
We’re back to it being as fast or faster to max out your whole armory than in Vermintide 2. And sadly, working on incremental improvements to my weapon is what kept me saying. Now I have all perfects so meh.
This is a dumb change to appease whiners who didn’t understand you never, ever needed a perfect weapon to clear any content. You needed a good weapon, which was always easy to make. Perfect weapons were a “for fun” dragon to chance and in no way necessary. Unless you’re terrible at the game, I guess.
It’s been finally eradicated. I can even buy a “terrible” 280 base score item from the store, and assuming good stat distribution (the only remaining RNG element) I can upgrade it to a perfect war gear with perks and blessing of my choosing. FINALLY!
I’m one of those who managed to mostly bruteforce the system to get what I wanted before the update, but I now have the freedom to create multiple loads, try out different ideas without hitting the “lock” wall and recover my previously “bricked” gear.
Fatshark have seen the light on this issue, and I’m grateful that someone there accepted the community was right on this. Removal of the RNG doesn’t lower the game’s longevity, in fact it ENHANCES it and gives new players a sense of progression which doesnt rob them of their in-game money and resources.
This was a change to a commercial product made to address the single largest point of customer negative feedback in both professional and user reviews as well as on every online community interaction platform (Reddit, Discord, these forums, etc).
People don’t like Gacha RNG, and the old system didn’t do what Fatshark themselves claimed they wanted it to do.
The previous system wasn’t perfect. It would have been OK with the much smaller selection of weapons Vermintide games had. It might have worked with just the change to being able to transform a weapon into all Marks since that already drastically cuts down on the RNG.
But this is too far the other way. There’s no “end game” now. There’s no need for any resource in the game. Now it’s back to Vermintide speed-blitz to the end of a map. Gone is the need to roam around a bit to pick up Plasteel or Idol or whatnot.
Thats not the point tho. Many people felt cheated by everything being tied to rng, and rightfully so. Half the content of Darktide is to explore all build options, but people couldnt even do that because most crafted items would either be just okay, become trash, or if it was good, would still be kinda trash because of the lock restriction. While its ok to use ok weapons, people arent here to have an ok time, but to have good fun.
Though yes, many of them are whiners who want the game to be a bit easier (as much as the sweats want the game to be harder), that wasnt the main point of needing the crafting rework.
Now, reading it sounds weird ; people want easier RNG? Wtf was I thinking.
Like I said, I fully agree the previous system wasn’t perfect. While I was able to craft weapons at 90~95% of perfect with around 1000 hours playtime, I have a few friends who often got pissed because they couldn’t build a good version of a specific weapon, or sad when new weapons or variants came out they knew they wouldn’t be able to build for a while unless they got massively lucky.
But now we’re crashing into a whole other issue. There’s no more “good, great or perfect” weapon now. You can’t get lucky where you have a weapon that Consecrates with 1 perfect Perk and Blessing which lets you get that rare perfect. Now it’s all perfect, so none of it is perfect. The whole weapon building gameplay component hasn’t been “improved” it’s been “removed”.
Thats balancing for ya.
Dont make the enemies harder or interesting, just make the weapon list stale. But ay, lets have fun before it spoils. But ay ay, I might eat my own words with the flamer blowing up and enemies with new armour, maybe more new enemies in the future.
There’s plenty of reason to pick stuff up unless you’re just playing one weapon set. If all you’ve done is perfect one set of weapons and that’s all you’re ever gonna play, okay maybe you might not pick stuff up, but if you want to try out all the weapons in the game and run different builds, you’re gonna need to pick stuff up for a looooong time.
For my own part, I stopped interacting with the old crafting system at the beginning of the year, just straight up stopped caring, too much burnout, too much RNG and frustrated gambling, watching a months worth of play resources go down the drain and result in no new usable gear was a huge disincentive to interacting with the game. When new weapons came out I didn’t even bother looking at them because of the crafting and RNG frustration involved in the process. I got a “good enough” set of weapons for each character and just stopped caring and just ran one or two builds per character, and mostly just stopped playing along with the rest of my playgroups. That’s a much more dangerous state for a game, as reflected in play rates.
Now? I’ve amassed tons of resources that went basically nowhere for the better part of a year to play with, I’ve got a reason to try some new things out, be interested in new weapons, and to play more to try more things out.
When we look at the other 4 person coop shooters on the market, none of them tried to do the RNG gimmickry Darktide did, and were better off for it. Having had every support weapon and stratagem in HD2 unlocked for months hasn’t detracted from my interest in playing or picking up resources.
If the rng is basically gone cant still keep rolling to find the items that we want the 80% on the stats we want? Because I have 3 different electro kinetic staffs all have different max modifiers on the stats and I dont think we can change the max at all. So we still have to keep rolling or buying until we get the stat priority we desire
When I logged in after the patch, I had all weapons at 18ish mastery. One game with each family got me mastery 20 with all weapons.
Spending a meagre fraction of my millions of Ordo Dockets go me a few different 80/80/80/80/60s in each type, a bit of Plasteel and Diamantine got them all to 500.
Which means that because of this new system, I now have every weapon in the game at a perfect state. And I barely touched on my saved ressources.
What is the purpose of the weeklies now? It used to be to get Melk currency to buy the occasional good tier 4 blessing. Now it’s pointless.
All the map pick-ups are pointless.
This is such a strange change to the game. They could have kept improving the weapon crafting instead of simply removing it from the game as they’ve done now.
“Weapon building” isn’t real gameplay in Tide games and most series veterans I know agree it’s always just been a blight on the series. What we have now is probably the best implementation of a gear system they’ve ever done. Metered progression, rewards playing the weapon, can customise and change build easily. It’s good stuff and my motivation to play the game has frankly never been higher.
Anyone who wants Darktide to be a looter can frankly go play any of the many looters out there. I got into Warframe while waiting for this update, I’d recommend it
I do kinda wish we could have random drop weapons where perhaps maybe they cant be upgraded or improved but they have a stat distribution thats better then anything else or maybe a special effect or perk that unique to it. Make them auric only drops and you would start seeing more people doing aurics. Dont get me wront i love crafting and stuff but I do think while we gained a lot from this patch we also lost a bit of the fun when we no longer have to worry about finding that perfectly rolled weapon.
I haven’t used Brunt for over a year and always just stuck to mission drops to not waste dockets/plasteel.
Interesting. So Brunt RNG mass buy can be less painful if a person is willing to forego one stat than trying to achieve a balance. Just gave it a go on Brunt and it’s only like 5-6 buy tries.
I think last year it was something like 50-60 mass buy to get everything near 80 and dump mobility
The time taken for FS to release new weapon types means before that a person can outpace plasteel stockup to consecrate & empower it fully when new weapon type released with just few hours playing a week.
New players starting now certainly got it easier than day 1 players
Yes, fk that bs yes, yes and heck yes they got it way easier. Our hands look like this so their hands can look like that type shi.
N it’s 100% better to have a dump stat at 60%. Most people have it on their mobility because unless youre using knife/duelling sword, no one needs mobility. Ogryn doesnt need mobility cuz he has none nor defence because it only affects sprint speed and push cost, not block cost for shield.
In conclusion, fk the new players and their lucky asses. They can suck my microdk.
