Is PS5 Darktide not getting a disk?

I know, I have not supported them since V2 launch. Unfortunately, I enjoy their games, I want to enjoy them fully, but I don’t think I like Fatshark as developers. They have potential they never seem to get to.

Hey, don’t you frame this like the community knows better. I remember VT1, we got the community howling about wanting hosted fatshark servers instead of P2P and how horde mode would make them bank for two years, and when fatshark gave them horde mode with even more rewards they they asked for it died in 24 hours and everyone crapped on it.

The community is often the source of the worst ideas possible and fatshark’s learned not to trust it at least.

Just to precise, weren’t those 2 shutdown by their publisher (Paradox iirc)

Like is Lead & Gold also not something to look at.

In any case, it’s way too early to really announce what their post shutdown plans are, cause things could then have to change, and it would be bad press for their backers

when a game runs on the dev’s servers and is being changed constantly via patches, i don’t see how useful owning a disk would be these days.

Can be changed, it doesn’t have to run on these servers.

“Disks? That’s a bit 2010 isn’t it? Does everyone not do digital downloads these days?”

It’s a tangible physical collection for gamers. Space Marine 2 even have an amazing steelbook, Helldivers 2 also have a disc version, the disc will serve as your physical license to play the game, after copying it will just download the latest patch. That’s how disk work today.

I have space marine disk and steelbook and would like to add Darktide as part of the collection.

Discs or digital is the same they can totally close a server or do you console « disconnected » when they want. This old war is over. Only working on true offline consoles but after a connected console mean you don’t own anything.

I get that, if you like having something to look at on your shelf then sure, no arguments.

You can own the box and the disk, but for DarkTide you don’t own a physical license of “the game”. You are being given permission to use the service for so long as it is maintained. You can sell your disk, your box, or any of its contents but the license to play won’t legally transfer over to the new owner. As you’ve pointed out; it would copy it to your PS5 at which point you then have to agree to be the sole licensee.

I’ll link the US legal version here which you can find on the US playstation site as that’s probably of most relevance, but finding the EU variant is equally easy.

License Grant. So long as you comply with this EULA and, as applicable, the App Store Agreement(s), we grant you the following license: a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable limited right and license to (i) download and install the Game on the device permitted by the App Store Agreement(s) (if applicable), and (ii) access and use the Services, including any Content, for your personal entertainment purposes leveraging only the functionality of the Game and Services. We and our licensors reserve all rights not granted to you in this EULA.

I didn’t say you’re owning the license, I’m saying it’s your license to play the game, you can’t play the game without the disk, that’s how my SM2 and HD2 work, they get regular updates but you still need the disk to play it. When my friend upgraded his HD2 disc into a version with paid DLC his license changed to digital and no longer needs the HD2 disc license so he was able to sell it and the person who bought the game from him can still play the game even if the game’s version on the disc is old, it will get updated eventually and the disc will serve as a license.

reason i almost only buy physical disks and avoid digital is “i like physically owning the game” but also. due to my old playstation crashing and my brother having changed my password in the past, i lost my account and games back then. physically owning the games means u do not lose the games if u lose the account in any way shape or form. be it from forgetting the password or losing acces to the account for any other possible reason. u keep ur games if u have the physical version. (the owning vs liscense thing also exists but isn’t even within my reasoning currently. )

OK. I’m not trying to win the Internet. You guys do what you want, but I suspect your illusion of ownership will vanish as soon as you accept the eula to play.
